  1. Thanks for the reply. I am thinking that I will stick with paste then. Since that is what they used from the factory. I have a brand new tube of the Gelid GC Extreme that I was planning on using. It is not conductive.
  2. Normally I would agree with you, but the card came stock with paste already. That is why I was wondering it I should switch from paste to pads.
  3. I am in the process of cleaning up my 5 year old laptop, an Asus G75VW. As a part of this cleaning, I plan on replacing the thermal compound on both the CPU and GPU. While taking apart the nVidia 670M GPU, I noticed that the VRM's and RAM chips had thermal paste on them instead of thermal pads. The question I have, should I use thermal paste on them like they did from the factory, or should I use some thermal pads instead? Thanks!
  4. Thank you for the reply. You have given something to think about.
  5. Thank you for the reply. That is what I was wondering. I tried asking at the local IT shops, but we ran into a language barrier. They speak Thai with little English, and I speak English with a little Thai. My primary translator, my wife, doesn't understand technology. For her, if she hits this button and it works, she is happy. I am working on my Thai, but it is slow going. Thank you for the reply. What I am looking for is relatively good range and a reliable connection. The Wifi capabilities of the "Combo Box" are not very good. Even when I have a good signal, the connection is not very good. I am not too worried about speed. The only devices that will be using WiFi are the wife's tablet and our cell phones. I linked the Ubiquity as an example.
  6. Thank you for the reply. I plan on adding multiple access points in the future, but I want to start with just one. So the ubiquity is a good choice for this? Would I then hook it into a port on the Switch?
  7. I am looking to expand/ upgrade my home network. I recently ran CAT 6 cable to all of the rooms in my house to speed up the streaming of media and transferring files from one device to another. I am currently using an unmanaged 8 port gigabit switch from DLink to network all the computers together. Each device attached to this switch has a static IP address that I have assigned. This switch then connects to the combination Router/WiFi/Modem device from my ISP (3BB in Thailand) to get onto the internet. The WiFi capability of this "combo" device is not very good. What I would like to do is disable the WiFi function on the combo device and replace it with something else. Can I do this by using a Wireless Access Point that connects to my switch? If so, would something like this, link, be what I am looking for? Finally, other than the one listed, do you have any advice on hardware? Thank you!
  8. Thank you for the information. I did not know that a NAS is a type of server. What you are describing is exactly what I would like to do. I am currently playing videos off of my HTPC. The problem comes with Netflix and iFlix. They do not natively work through my Linux/Kodi setup. I am trying to simplify my setup to make it easier for my wife to use it. She just wants to turn on the TV and watch videos no matter where they are from, Thank you for the information. I will look into FreeNAS. Making a localized file server sounds like what I am looking for. Thank you all for the replies. You have given me more information to help me decide what to do.
  9. I am looking to upgrade my HTPC setup to allow my media to be watched across different computers. With my current setup, all of my storage drives are installed internally in my HTPC, and they can't be accessed by other machines unless I leave it running. Since my living room television is of the "dumb" variety, I have an Android TV box so I can access Netflix and its Asian counterpart iFlix. What I am looking to do is combine my HTPC with my Android box so everything can be done from one machine. This would require me to "move" the drives in my current HTPC to some sort of network storage solution. Which would be the better option, a NAS or a Server? I really am not looking to do any type of RAID setup. I keep back ups of all my media off-line. Thank you for the advice!
  10. I did a double take when I saw that myself. The list of games that it can "play" is also misleading.
  11. Probably not. If you read what they wrote, it really does not match up with his review. As far as the copyright goes, I honestly think that is the case. I do not know how many Folexes and the like I see here on a daily basis. I thought it was interesting to see and that they might be interested in it.
  12. Living in Thailand, one of the best places to shop for non-electronics online is Aliexpress. While perusing their site, I ran across the GPD WIN Game Laptop. The listing is from the GPD factory store and Linus' review of it features prominently. It is interesting to see how they have used his video review in their advertising. Here is a link to the listing: GPD-WIN-Gamepad-Laptop-NoteBook
  13. You will not be putting any screws into your graphics card. They will attach to your case using the screw holes that just below your graphics card. With the one I use, it has an adjustable piece that makes contact with the graphics card. Here, Stop your heavy GPU from Saging, is a video from Youtube that shows how to install the type that I have. I hope this helps.
  14. My GTX970 is heavy as well. You really do not need to support it. I did it just for aesthetics. There are many types out there, bu this is the one that I used. Graphics card support
  15. NP, here is a video about it that Linus did on the Radeon Software that he did for NCIX Tech tips. It gives a good overview of said software. Radeon Settings: Crimson Edition Overview
