  1. just bought a used 1080ti. with it i got the original asus strix cooler (no thermal pads). as well as the EK MLC phoenix radiator and block. so the problem is that when i got home the terminal (rotary fittings) on the GPU have failed, i dumped the water before transport. anyone know where i can get new terminals for this card in Canada? i live in BC so it would be great if i didn't have to pay 40 usd (60 cad delivery dec 1st) for a replacement terminal. at this point i cant test it, and i am not sure what thermal pads would allow me to reuse the original GPU shroud.
  2. Hi Everyone, i am looking for a 10gb Ethernet nic to expand my networking setup. i have used the Asus xg c100c. but i am having issues with longevity and stable connection. an intel nic is the dream but i know that is a little to rich for my blood at the moment. any suggestions on what has worked for you? A bit of information, system is used as a basic storage server. z390-a i7-8700k 64gb ddr4 3200mhz 750w psu chenbro case
  3. some h97 and z97 boards do support NVME. i have a H97E-M currently cloning a legacy system to a NVME.
  4. i have had good experience with the Ugreen M.2 enclosure we have been selling them for the last couple months at work. personally i own, or have used: Asus ROG is pricey but works great for long transfers. Vantec also makes one that works pretty good, but can slow down after an hour due to heat (55-60c). Elite m.2 enclosure also works pretty good, but the drive was hitting 60-70C after an hour. (replaced with Asus) i tend to use these enclosures for data transfer, so long sustained reads and writes. i cant remember the exact numbers for the transfer speeds, but the Asus was the fastest out of the 4 enclosures.
  5. sorry about updating this thread when it is old, i just wanted to confirm for anyone looking. Asus H97E-M (bios ver 2702) does support NVME this should help with your 2 year old list
  6. i usually avoid sn550 or WD Blue NVME in general, i have seen a couple failures but i have had issues with file transfers saturating the cache. since then i generally avoid the NVME variant. also checked B&H for the prices of WD blue, and samsung NVME's either way it is still priced at 200usd min, but then again i am in Canada so i know parts are cheaper, just don't know where to look in the US.
  7. i have had good experience with Samsung EVO drives in the past, even WD blue (SATA variant) are solid drives. some of 100-300 series Intel boards disable SATA ports if you use more than one NVME, or have it installed in slot 2. 2tb drives are expensive and if all you are doing is storing games and not playing them then a regular HDD is not a bad option and cheap.
  8. solid setup for both. 12th gen is worth it, but 11th gen can be cheaper. as for the drives though i would say. 500gb boot NVME and a 1tb or 2 tb SSD for your other files. that way if windows decides to mess up you don't have to backup a large drive to reinstall.
  9. Some questions........ What spec/type of HDMI are you using? Is the HDMI a pinner cable (very thin) Does Bit stream DTS also cause audio lag with a multi channel output?
  10. so getting a second SSD does not sound like a bad idea. but worry about the software first, since that will have more influence over your part selection/ upgrade path. last time humble bundle had Sony vegas, it was $35 dollars plus a bunch of other stuff, you can also start with premier and go to after effects later
  11. is it a spinning platter or Solid state? a solid state can help with loads and render times, especially when it comes to 4k footage. mind you developing a good workflow will help more in the long run.
  12. depends on where you are in the world. the MSI WF series laptops are not a bad option. where i am they start at about $1800. https://www.msi.com/Workstation/WF65-10TX
  13. lets see i cant help with everything but here we go. Pc Specs: you have decent specs for video editing, usually when i am putting something together for a customer i would suggest. 2 SSD's (m.2 or SATA works) the 256 for your boot drive (preferably NVME) 500gb to 1tb for your scratch or editing drive (SATA will work but NVME will help) the 5600 will work well and if you find it is not fast enough then you can go with a faster CPU then (since you already have it.) GPU: this depends mostly on the program adobe tends to like dedicated graphics Software: this is entirely up to what you like and what you want out of it. adobe is rarely a bad choice but i have seen people use windows movie maker, and even Sony Vegas pro to do their editing. keep an eye on https://www.humblebundle.com/software?hmb_source=navbar and sometimes you can find software to get you started for cheap or even an upgrade. otherwise saving your money is always a good option. do you have another HDD in your machine or just the 256gb?
  14. i am curious if i can get advice on a network upgrade. current network is using a D-link 1024D for a small office with VoIP and multiple computers, but it has started to become slow as we have maxed out all the 1gb ports with computers and switches. looking at getting the ubiquity switch pro 48 PoE to upgrade and allow for expand-ability. the biggest thing we want is to have 10gb Ethernet, so can i use the SFP+ slots to wire in the main server? upgrades for the office Intel x550-t2 (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/88209/intel-ethernet-converged-network-adapter-x550t2.html) Switch Pro 48 PoE (https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-switching/products/usw-pro-48-poe)
  15. so i am debating on upgrading my main computers cpu, since i do have a z170 motherboard i would just need to pick up a 7700k for it to do the switch, but i have a 4790k at the moment so i am still trying to justify the price. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/shamus20/saved/X9VdnQ server https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/shamus20/saved/#view=2JHXsY main computer
