  1. I have some questions regarding the maintenance I'm going to have to do soon, since I put the loop together more than a year ago so it's long overdue: I'm doing a block teardown, including the Z170S monoblock and the 1080Strix GPU block. What do I need to do the reassembly? Do I need to get O-rings? Do I need to get thermal pads? Can I reuse the EKWB compression fittings? How do I flush the radiators and clean the blocks? Its a copper/nickel loop. I'm planning on using the EKWB Monarch RAM modules without the actual watercooling part, just as a heatsink. I heard it's enough, I just wanted to make sure. I'll be posting the process since it's going to be a pretty spicy mod so expect a post in 2 weeks or so and many thanks in advance for taking time to respond to the questions!
  2. https://github.com/fail0verflow/ps4-linux If you search for fail0verflow ps4 something-something you might find what you're looking for, but it's not really great and it's linux, not windows...
  3. That is true, I'm aware of it. That's why I leave it as a bit of a wild card. The option is there, just not very feasable...
  4. Yeah but wouldn't the 1080 give me like, one more year of "futureproofing"? Besides, in a couple of years I might just go for a 1440p... Right now the 2 possibilities I'm juggling with are: 1070 and watercool GPU+CPU (just for bragging rights as I was told they dont have huge OC capability) 1080 and watercool CPU only (but still custom) and maybe in a year expand the loop. And thinking even further ahead, get another 1080 in the future for SLI, who knows...
  5. So, I'm in a little bit of a tight spot here. I'm currently in the middle of a full PC upgrade (Just got a Z170 mobo and the i7-6700K) and now i have almost the amount i need for the 1070, and the doubts came rushing in... I'm planning on a custom loop, CPU(mobo+socket waterblock)+GPU (and backplate), so it's like, another 500€ or more on top of whichever graphics card I choose. Here's my thought process for each one: If i get the GTX 1070, immediatly since I have the money, I can start thinking about the watercooling loop, which would be the last thing in my build, BUT in terms of future proofing I don't know if it will hold up as good as a 1080. I mainly play in 1080p-120Hz and I don't think I'll be upgrading to a 1440p monitor anytime soon. I mainly play Overwatch but I have my eye on The release of Star Citizen (Hopefully in this century amirite guise ) and it seems it's gonna be like Crysis 2.0, a hardware nightmare... Also I'm doing computer engineering and in the near future I'll be getting my hands dirty with Unreal Engine and that kind of stuff (Does the GPU make a difference in this kind of stuff though?). If i get the GTX 1080, then it would be in approx ~1 month from now (and would most likely be the FE for the waterblock it uses, or any other cheap 1080 with good waterblock compatibility cuz the evga ftw incident got me fudged up). This I think will give me the extra oomph I'm scared I might need with the 1070 and futureproof the system (even though this term is basically a myth in terms of PC hardware) for a bit more. Now VEGA, my biggest nightmare, or my salvation. The announcement of VEGA hyped me buckets and I'm afraid it might smash the GTX 1080's performance to the ground and I might regret buying the 1080 and not waiting for this (even if it's bound to be better, coming out like a year later). No info on prices, no info about z170 chipset being able to squeeze the full performance out of it (I'm not sure because of the 54893425.33 new technologies it implements, it might need a mobo compatible, right?), but 4K ultra 60fps??? That might just last me till the day I die I tell you that much! Now, it's safe to say that the VEGA is like a wild card, I highly doubt I'd choose it, but if it ends up being a god card among nvidia pleb GPUs I'll be mad as fuck . The fact that I have a 760 and it's not terrible for the time being gives me that wiggle room that at the end of the day is the reason for my doubts and throws me in this hillarious loop of: *wake up decided* -I SHOULD GET THE 1070 ooorr... wait 1 month and get DAT 1080 DOE but... BUT... for one more month maybe THE 1080Ti IS OUT but at this point I should just wait for VEGA RIGHT? And just when I'm about to get to a conclusion it's night time, I gotta sleep and I wake up right back where I started. SHOW ME THE WAY TO ACHIEVE DEM FPS AND NOT BE LEFT WITH THE ~~CUDA~~ COULDA/SHOULDA/WOULDAS OF LIFE. I might as well throw my rig specs, shouldn't I?: MOBO : ASUS Sabertooth Z170 S CPU : i7-6700K (not OC'd yet) RAM : 16GB DDR4 GEIL EVO X (RGB cuz I'm a dummy) GPU : GTX 760 Windforce somethingsomething CASE : NZXT S340 white STORAGE : Only 120GB SSD and 500GB HDD, don't need more ---- TL;DR: 1070vs1080vsVEGA keeping in mind performance, price (how long till I get the money) and time before obsolete. ----
  6. That looks suuper good! Thanks for taking your time on choosing white components! And the RAM is so gorgeous... The cooler doesn't matter too much cause it wont be long before I do a custom water loop.
  7. Looks great! It's mostly what I'm gonna go with, since I've decided on going with the i7. Already bought the case and SSD though. I've decided on a white-blue frosty kinda color scheme, so the MOBO you posted is between my choices (though the sabertooth z170 s makes me drool). The RAM will be white too, maybe even blue leds on top.The case in the end is an all white NZXT s340. Thanks for the suggestion tho and I will keep that MOBO in mind when the time to choose one comes!
  8. Interesting take, but for this build I'm going all in with color schemes and stuff so I'm going to change almost everything either way!
  9. a 650W can be enough if I'm planning on watercooling it on the near future? Also regarding the motherboard. I've been told (more like, I've read) that in a few months new MOBO technologies might come out such as "Hybrid Memory Cube", 3dxPoint which i think has to do with either RAM or SSDs and I even heard there might be a PCI express competitor (though this last one I find it super hard to believe...)
  10. What's your reasoning behind it? It's because of the software I'm going to use or is it because a 1070 might be too much for the i5? EDIT: the post below me cleared it all. Thanks!
  11. So I'm currently doing a college degree in computer science/engineering and soon I'll be 100% involved with demanding software, partially because I'm obliged, and partly because it's my dream. Here I leave my current PC specs alongside the first draft of what I'm planning on building. 2 things before anyone starts furiously typing with outrage and disbelief. I don't need a lot of space, I'm the type of guy that erases everything he hasn't used in the past month, doesn't have >1GB of music at any given point in time and doesn't have any movies saved, also plays 2 games, both under 20GBs. **With 120GB of SSD I have plenty for my SO and the main game I play.** I know I'm probably barely meeting the power requirements in my current build, that's why I put a (?) in the new build PSU. i want to have some room for potential expansion (RGB lighting and watercooling) in the future (not included in the current budget). Old New CPU Intel i5 3330 Intel i5 6600k MOBO ASRock Z77 Pro3 NOT DETERMINED GPU GeForce GTX 760 GeForce GTX 1070 RAM 8GB DDR3 16GB DDR4 HD1 HDD 250GB SSD 120GB HD2 HDD 500GB HDD 500GB PSU Non-modular 500W Modular 700W(?) CASE Aerocool Xpredator X1 NZXT S340 What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. The "demanding software" I mentioned at the beginning is software such as: Video editors Digital Audio Workstations Programming Workspaces Web Development Software 3D Videogame Engines (mainly Unreal Engine) 3D Modeling Softwares (such as ZBrush) If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings) For gaming (mostly Overwatch so, not too demanding in gaming terms), I just need my 144 fps at High/Ultra in a 1080p (maybe 1440p in the future) and I'm happy, though anything else is a plus. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? Around 1200€ but I can save some more if a suggestion catches my atenttion. In what country are you purchasing your parts? I live in Spain. I mostly buy from a website called PCComponentes though Amazon and any other online shops are ok with me. Provide any additional details you wish below. Color coordination is practically a must, but doesnt ahve to be perfect. Im totally fine with a Black/Blue + a bit of White or White/Blue + a bit of Black, so I'm really looking for a MB with either of these color schemes. If it isn't possible, I'm open to try other color schemes (I'm also a sucker for Black/Green, though Black/Red can work too but I feel like it's overused). Fancy RAM (Plasma lighting, LED lighting) makes my pores tingle, I don't mind spending a bit more on it. Modular PSU is needed to have a clean, less cluttered finish and to maybe order custom made connectors. I'm planning on watercooling it (with a custom loop, not hard tubes cuz I'm a n00b, cooling GPU as well) so any ideas or pieces of advice are welcomed welcame? i swear i can't english sometimes Case fans on the meantime will probably be needed so if you know cheap fans that have acceptable quality be sure to throw some names! The list shown on top with the build components isn't, by any means, final. If you see something wrong with it, or a better combination/solution I'm looking forward to hearing about it! Last but not least. Thank you so much for spending a couple of minutes reading and/or answering to this post, you are unsung heroes and I really, REALLY appreciate any tips you may post. I may put down here edits if a post gives me an idea that tickles my fancy. EDIT1: The case order of "needyness" is as follows: Case. The 3.5mm audio output seems to have short attention spans and stops working when it feels like (probably the whole panel is a bit loose so it disconnects) forcing me to often refresh pages, restart applications and such. Looking to change it in the next week. SSD. I want that fast boot NOW! MB/CPU combo. The GTX 760 can still handle that CPU i think so GPU is not as urgent GPU (and probably PSU). Cause I have to get da skrilla for the 1070. RAM. That can wait for sickness purposes.
