  1. That's probably an HP DL380 Gen 4. They don't even have pci or pci-e slots. Where I work we mostly use HP gear and we have a ton of legacy systems that have simply never been disposed of. My rule of thumb is that anything older than Gen 5 is useless. Gen 5 and newer is totally usable in terms of performance and equivalency with current tech (connectors, etc) although anything older than Gen 7 is going to be a space heater and I only keep them for testing.
  2. Why in the world would you want to re-purpose that outside its intended chassis? It doesn't even have modern connectors. Optical drives are like $15 new on amazon or newegg....
  3. If you want new, Memory.net has been great to me in the past. They sell a ton of server grade ram of basically every flavor you could want/need.
  4. They function totally independently of each other. You'll see both displays in your gpu's video options manager and have the ability to set the refresh rate independently for each monitor. My GTX 1070 in my computer is driving a 120Hz 1920x1080 display and a 60Hz 1680x1050 display no problem.
  5. It's just BF1. Probably just related to poor drivers and an unoptimized game. Like I said, i'm not going to come to any conclusions until driver updates are pushed and the first round of game updates are tested. My game just isn't super fluid the way past BF games are, even though I get 60-100fps on a 120Hz monitor. I can see my GPU fluttering all around and when utilization drops, an onscreen stutter, etc occurs parallel to it. My 2500K is nearly constantly 100% utilization in full on gameplay. Although i've seen people with 6700Ks claim they see 100% utilization too, so i'm not sure this is really an issue with my 2500K.
  6. Money isn't really the issue. It's more spending the money on things that make sense. If i'm going to build an entirely new rig, i'm going to spend the money on high end stuff so it lasts a long time. I'm also not going to buy into the mainstream Skylake or even Kaby Lake platform this late in the game.
  7. For the last little while i've felt like my 2500k isn't cutting it anymore. It's spent its lifetime at 4.6 GHz but BF1 seems to be crushing it. Going to wait for an updated NVIDIA driver with BF1 optimizations to take place before making a final decision, but currently my 780 Classified fluctuates between 75-90% usage. BF4 is pinned at 99% usage even though the processor is always 90%+ utilization on all cores. I've also started doing quite a bit of video rendering so I could use the extra logical cores that the 3770K offers. Depending on how much an improvement BF1 gains from optimized drivers and upcoming patches, i'm looking at swapping in a 1070 FTW. BF1 currently uses about 2.8GB of my 780's 3GB VRAM. My entire system is getting relatively old, so it might just be worth waiting for X99's successor. I'm not sure how much DDR3 1600MHz RAM is bottlenecking my system too. I get between 8-9GB of RAM usage in BF1. Also, does running out of VRAM cause a GPU to dip in utilization? http://pcpartpicker.com/user/motonack/saved/FT6j4D So i've got a few choices in mind: a) Hold off for X99 successor b) 2500K -> 3770K I can get an ideal 3770K chip for about $240 on eBay right now.
  8. With an EVGA GTX 780 Classified I pull between 40-80 fps at 1080p depending on situation with what I'd probably say is about 80% of the settings maxed out.
  9. The 970 and 980 are very close in specs. I think the most imporant thing to look at is what makes the biggest difference when both cards are pushed to the limit. In high resolution situations (1440p+) the memory bus and VRAM are going to become limiting factors. Both cards have the mediocre 256-bit memory bus, and both have 4GB of VRAM@7Ghz. The 970 SLI is the clear choice.
  10. I think you can almost guarentee that the 980ti will be at least announced by time AMD pushes the 390X. NVIDIA isn't going to give AMD any ground. I think 6GB of VRAM is the minimum for the high end cards to be coming with today.

  12. 6TB consumer drives are just about as big as they come. Lol. By time I pull the trigger on this machine, they'll probably have 8TB drives out so I'd get those instead or whatever is the largest capacity option available at the time.

If you have had success, that's excellent because it's a really feature packed board that would work perfect for this build, but as of 9/22/14, people are still coming in with complaints of bad boards.
  14. I've been aware of this board since it launched, but people have had a lot of problems with it. If you load up the board and saturate a single bus completely, the board becomes really unstable among other anomalies people have faced.
