Help with MB and Case Headers
pals0007 replied to pals0007's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Anyone with any ideas -
I am planning on getting the Corsair Obsidian 1000D case which has USB 3.1 Type A front panel connector and USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C connector, However my motherboard of choice has USB 3.2 Gen 2 Header and USB 3.2 Gen 1 Header. My question is how can I Use the front panel USB Type A and Type C ports? Am I missing something? Do I need an add in card? if so any reccomendations? Thank you for your help

Howto: create your own linux home server using Debian
pals0007 replied to MG2R's topic in Guides and Tutorials
I am having trouble setting up mdadm these are the drives I want to use: sdb1 sdc1 sdd1 sde1 The command I used was: sudo mdadm --create /dev/md0 --chunk=64 --level=5 --raid-devices=4 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1 I am stuck on what commands to use next? Also should I format the drives first? And where do I put the command to use ext4? -
Howto: create your own linux home server using Debian

Need help I just recently created a Ubuntu server machine I have the os on 120 gb SSD and I have (4) 2TB WD RED drives I want to raid using mdadm. I am new to this so I am very very lost. All computers (clients) in my network are windows based, so what file system should I use for the RAID 5, does it matter, and should I use samba or NFS for sharing, I have read NFS is faster please help -
I have an AMD 9370, my question is, If the CPU only supports 1866 memory should I even bother getting 2400mhx Trident X memory. I was gonna purchase this memory today till I started to poke around. Will the CPU take advantage of it or should I just get 1866mhz memory? Thanks for any info

@dalekphalm Yea unfortunately I do not have any back ups, I dont have the necessary budget for more Hard drives. I have tried everything under the sun I can think of. tried rebuilding the orignal array but the array still shows in windows as RAW. I am now trying Easeus recovery wizard, it does find some of the files but crashes before the deep scan finishes. Can someone recommend another recovery software that can recover files from a RAW file system? Thanks

Need help or any info with RAID expansion problem RocketRaid 622 I have an existing RAID 5 with 3 WD Red 2 TB HDDS, The array was getting full so I added another WD Red 2 TB drive and then created a new array with all 4 drives using OLE (Online Expansion). Everything was running fine but terribly slow the expansion was at 65% after two days. I woke up this morning and the computer restarted itself for some unknown reason. Now when I go back into the WEB utility it shows the expansion at 1% (so I guess OLE process started over) and the RAID array is no longer available through windows. The drive is in win explorer but double clicking on the drive prompts an error to format it, (WHICH I DO NOT WANT TO DO), my question is should I keep the existing expansion going and hope my data is ok, or is there a way to stop the expansion and recover the existing array. I need to make sure the data is in tact. And why is it taking DAYS to expand the array. My system is more than capable of handling the task. PLEASE HELP

I currently have a NAS with 6gb usable on RAID 6, so I dont need harddrives. And as far as my 300 budget that could be increased if I knew what to save for, 1. a new GPU 2. another 7970 and run dual cards 3. Better RAM Give me some Ideas please Thanks

This is my current Rig http://pcpartpicker.com/user/pals0007/saved/4JBQ Case: Corsair 900D MB: Asus Crosshair V Formula Z CPU: AMD 9370 Cooler: NZXT Kraken X60 Ram: Corsair Vengeance 1600 8Gb PSU: NZXT Hale90 V2 850W GPU: XFX DD7970 Black Edition Screen: Acer 20" HDD: (2) Corsair Neutron GTX 120gb in RAID 0 So here is where I need your advice. What would you change if you could? I was thinking of changing my memory to 16gb of Kingston Hyper X 2400 or Gskill Trident 16gb 240, or possibly a new GPU, but which one for around $300, but would that be significantly better then I already have? I look forward to you comments thanks.

I currently have a Rosewill RSV-S5 external enclosure with (3) 2TB WD Red drives in RAID 5, controlled by Highpoint Rockedraid 622 card. Transferring files to the enclosure I get a good 80mb/sec transfer(which I am happy with). but accessing the data is horrific, any ideas on how to improve performance or an I SOL?

I have been using the free version of this http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx Macriun Reflect. I have used it on many occasions with the back up images were on an external NAS, and it has worked great everytime
