  1. Thank you for your replies. Resolution for both monitors is correct. I installed the drivers from the provided CD and I think I have uninstalled the old ones using the DDU as linked above but I didn't want to incase I go back. I have checked and Windows was using drivers for the correct card. I was trying to make sure I didn't get any of the bloatware that comes on the disk when I installed it, so I'll try again incase I missed something I need. I also found that Microsoft Office Word feels laggy and slower than before. I'm seriously considering going back to my old card which was much nicer and worked fine.
  2. I just upgraded from a GT640 to a GTX1060. Small text such as the details on files in Windows Explorer and other thin lines look really grey and thin and are much harder to read. What settings do I need to change to revert this to how it was before, with the text appearing to be black? I much preferred it before so I think that I will change back to my older graphics card if this can't be fixed. Thanks.
  3. I had this a few years ago. There are two batteries in the pen, a button cell and a AAAA (four As) The button cell powers the Bluetooth part, the other battery powers the actual pen movement. You need to get an AAAA.
  4. If you want to be a "networker" look into Linux server OSs. If you want a reasonably simple NAS, which can run VMs, look at UnRaid. You could run UnRaid and run Linux in a VM for testing things.
  5. Just use any old PC. Install UnRaid, add the disks, your done. Anything will run UnRaid or FreeNAS absolutely fine. You really want something with a gigabit LAN port and plenty of SATA ports, and preferably LGA775/AM2 or later, but you could use something ancient and it will be okay, perhaps less reliable. If you have a spare workstation, that could work. You don't need an i7 or even an i5. My NAS runs on a Pentium (Going to upgrade to a Xeon though, so I can run some VMs) and is great.
  6. But why not include it? It can be done with the ports on the card, and gives them an edge over other cards with the same chip.
  7. Yes, this will work. Connect it to the HDMI port, and plug in the VGA connector from the screen. I got mine from a place called CPC, Amazon will be fine. I cannot find the exact one, as a later model has been released which is more expensive, but that should also work. https://www.amazon.co.uk/NEWLink-NLHDMI-HSV02-NEWLINK-DISPLAY-ADAPTOR/dp/B00LSR0IKG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503694858&sr=8-2&keywords=hdmi+to+vga+newlink I found a very similar looking one but it is unbranded. It is around the price I paid for my New Link one, so is most likely the same inside. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01H36AKFS/ref=sxr_pa_click_within_right_2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_p=1325019647&pf_rd_r=ZSN3NNGYW6DCPWMT8GRW&pd_rd_wg=L7X8Q&pf_rd_s=desktop-rhs-carousels&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_w=64rPk&pf_rd_i=hdmi+to+vga+newlink&pd_rd_r=4CED31YASD4PH0DJKSB0&psc=1 The only issue with that is it may be harder to fit into your HDMI port, if there is limited space around it. The VGA port could also put a lot of weight onto the HDMI port.
  8. But then a lot of people need to buy a $5 adaptor.
  9. Why? If it is an active converter, then it is a true HDMI signal going to true VGA. It doesn't really matter if it is an "accepted" standard, and why shouldn't it be? Both will work. I am surprised at the graphics card manufacturers for not including VGA or even DVI-I. That is just laziness.
  10. I have a little New Link HDMI to VGA converter which cost £6 (Less than $8). VGA is an easy signal to generate, so these converters are cheap and small and can be powered by the 5v going down HDMI. You can get cables with the converter in, and the converter is so small that you wouldn't notice it is in the connector.
  11. Wow. I have never had an issue with DisplayPort (Probably because I have only used it a handful of times) but I can imagine having problems with that. VGA is great because there are no EDID issues, and it just works. Plug it in, you get a picture.
  12. The OP mentions their other, presumably newer, monitor has died. If it is an older monitor, and it works, then why upgrade? For viewing web pages, videos and documents, who needs even 1920x1080? I especially like 1280x1024 (5:4 aspect ratio) for gaming and editing documents and spreadsheets. VGA is fine for up to 1920x1200, and there is little stopping you going beyond, and it usually works.
  13. No it isn't. Something else has changed.
  14. I have a Triax camera which can save directly to FTP. It is POE but has a 12v power jack along with the RJ45 connector. I actually believe that it is a re-branded Hikvision bullet camera, so look at them.
  15. Firewire cards are cheap, and if you have a desktop, there is a high chance that there is a header for Firewire, just it isn't connected to anything on the case.
