  1. I recently bought a used Lenovo T460s laptop (fully reimaged). I wanted to use it to RDP to my desktop computer (custom build, see specs here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/vannac/saved/8zTNpg) while I am at home, but RDP wasn't working. Both systems are running Windows 10. My router is an Asus GT-AC2900. When I try to ping either the laptop or the PC, I get "destination host unreachable". But this is the weird part...both my desktop and the Lenovo laptop are able to ping/RDP to a third host that I have on the same network/subnet! To me, this rules out a lot of host side configuration issues, because if it was a firewall or network config problem, then I shouldn't be able to communicate with a third unrelated host on the network. I'm really left scratching my head on this one and I'm hoping the forum might have some creative ideas to try... Things I have tried so far: - Confirmed that I can see both desktop and laptop in the Network map on the router admin page. Both have IPs that have been assigned via DHCP. - Confirmed both desktop and laptop are on the same network/subnet/gateway - Confirmed both desktop and laptop are set on a "Private" network in Windows (should allow network communication between hosts) - Confirmed ICMP/Echo is allowed in the Firewall rules for BOTH hosts - Tried completely disabling Windows firewall on both the laptop and the desktop, no change to the network connectivity - Removed any proprietary Lenovo software on the laptop in case it was enforcing strange security rules (still should not apply to a single host on the network). I'm not running any special Antivirus on either machine. - Ran "arp -a" and confirmed that neither the desktop nor the laptop are listed the table shown after issuing this command. According to Google, this indicates a problem with a missing route, but there is nothing out of the ordinary in the router settings and the IPs have been assigned automatically with DHCP. - Tried connecting the laptop via ethernet cable to the router to rule out wifi, no change in behavior In summary: what would prevent a specific Windows 10 host from communicating with another specific Windows 10 host on a 192.168 network? These are the only two systems with any communication issues as far as I can tell. Again, both systems are able to ping/connect to other hosts on the network. Thanks in advance!
  2. I fail to see what part isn't! Linus' videos practically bleed with entertainment value. He regularly dresses up in costumes, does funny bits, and even writes whole spin off shows (Scrapyard Wars, etc) to make fun content that almost anyone can enjoy. It would be amazing to see what they'd come up with in the span of a movie....
  3. Didn't even consider anyone else playing Linus, but that would be hilarious to see someone play Linus and then maybe have Linus make a cameo appearance as a camera man or something!
  4. I was looking at my LTT faux movie poster today and wondering...has LMG ever considered making an LTT movie? I didn't bother to google at all before posting this, so I look forward to being surprised by your responses! Personally, I think Linus would be an amazing performer in a story about his baby (LTT, not his actual babies). I would totally watch it. Especially if it delved into some older forgotten tech and origins of LTT that have been less explored....
  5. I just need to read the drive, don't want or need to build a RAID array on it. Isn't an HBA for hooking up the host to a SAN?
  6. Unfortunately no, the old motherboard was dead. I don't think I need a RAID controller to read the drive since it was RAID1, so it should just be a 1:1 copy of the second drive, right?
  7. Hello all, On my last PC build I was using some SAS drives hooked up to a Dell RAID controller in a RAID 1 (Mirror) array. Since upgrading my build, I no longer have space in my case for the RAID controller, so I was looking to move the data off the SAS drives and onto an NVMe drive instead. The problem is, the RAID controller died shortly after I installed the NVMe drive I wanted to use for the data, and now I'm not sure how to get the data off these SAS drives. I tried replacing the controller I had with an identical unit I found on eBay for cheap, but even tho I could tell the replacement controller was working, nothing showed up in Windows. I assume the replacement controller is unaware of the previous RAID configuration that was on the old card. Unfortunately, with my new motherboard, I have no way to access the RAID controller menu during boot, as I did with my old build. Now I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to figure out how to get my data off of (at least one) of these RAID 1 SAS drives...googling around, it doesn't seem like there's an easy way to convert SAS to SATA to read them directly from my motherboard, but please correct me if I'm wrong on that. Is there any other way I can access the data on these SAS drives without a SAS controller??? Thanks in advance!
  8. Saw a similar one on Reddit with a yellow cap, they were calling it candy corn lol. Great color combo with the blue too. I'm hoping I get a similar one!
  9. Feeling so strange to wander over to the LTT channel on my work breaks and not see anything new...the good side of all these videos over the years is that we have an impressive backlog of LTT to hold us over until the channel returns, likely better than ever. Despite all the internet-drama, LTT's future looks bright to me. Incidentally, I bought a large desk pad during the Lime sale (thank you for that sale!) and I recently brought it to a board game meetup that I run. As soon as people saw the LTT box, they started asking about the latest GN drama. You know a YouTube channel has made it big when they've crossed the internet/IRL divide!
  10. And the internet is fucking NOTORIOUS for encouraging mob mentality and reactionary irrational thinking. I've watched Linus for many many years. Those of us who have been around for a long time know what LMG is about and we'll be here when LTT is back on the air.
  11. It's a hard day today Linus, but you should know that your fans are behind you and we know that your future reviews are going to be bulletproof. If this dude's channel had anything remotely as interesting to watch as stuff LTT has done for years, I would be subscribed to him. But I'm not. LTT fan for life. Looking forward to your return! PS there's a reason GN has 2 million subs and you have 15 mill!
  12. Fair enough, I can only knowledgably comment on the systems/configs I've work on and I haven't done much with VPLEX. I'm also biased a bit biased as a former EMC employee.
  13. Not sure if that's a fair example....abstracting the storage through a virtualization layer with VPLEX is bound to be more complicated than serving the storage directly from an array. Anyway, just want to say as a former EMC employee I appreciate the fellow storage nerds on here! I hope to see more Enterprise storage/SAN content from LTT once this latest Gamer's Nexus drama receeds...
  14. Agreed, I'd love to see them play around with some EMC (now Dell) or Nutanix/Pure Storage arrays. The EMC direct matrix storage architecture is particularly interesting.
  15. I definitely went through similar pains when I first upgraded to Win 10 from Windows 7, hence my surprise when it worked without an issue this time. I'm going to avoid having an MS account as long as I possibly can (they farm enough data from me as it is), but something tells me it's only a matter of time before account linking is going to be standard for running Windows as your OS.
