  1. Oh ok, I thought that's why a raid controller was faster.
  2. Oh it just dawned on me. Quick question: Does the raid controller bypass the sata, thus bypassing the 6gb/s limitation? I haven't used a raid card before, but from what I've seen, it looks like all the hd's connect to that NOT the mb.
  3. When would u recommend using a Raid controller? If I used one, about how much faster do u think it'd be than without? (ballpark estimate)
  4. Oh so u think this setup is possible with just the onboard? I planned to use a very recent mb(like z97), So I could possibly use a mITX motherboard and have a NIC using the sole pcie slot instead of needing two pcie slots? As long as the Raid0 is fast(for the games), idc how long it takes for the backup to backup on the Raid1. Also could u point me in the right direction on how to do that multiple raid array? That could possibly be another forum post in itself I'm sure lol. So if it's too much "do this, install that" that's fine .
  5. Hey guys/gals! I'm a gamer at heart with the occasional media fluff. I pretty much ONLY play games on my pc, I store my "must always have" media on an external hdd. But I like everything in one place so it's less clutter. So my question is: Can I have 2 SSD's running in Raid 0(for the speed AND storage) and have a Raid1 setup on 2 hdds for backup for my media...all in 1 pc? I realize I can setup a Raid0 with the SSDs in the pc and have a separate storage running Raid1 but want it all in one box so to speak. Plus, to run raid at all wouldn't the external hdds need to be in another pc box with OS and all anyways? Cut out the clutter is the point. Idc if 1 SSD in the Raid 0 fails and I lose all my installed stuff in that little array. I usually uninstall games I haven't played in forever and I usually do a clean Windows install every 6 months anyways.(told ya, I hate clutter XP) Also, would a Raid controller(pcie card) be needed for this? SHOULD it be needed at all? Or is it even fkin possible? lol. I'm noob to networking/storage so a "for dummies" terminology is preferred . THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
  6. Nuc cuz I wanna have a 2nd pc that I can stream to. I STILL don't know how to do that cuz I don't have a 2nd pc lol. Thanks for the giveaway guys u rock!
  7. Do u have any problems recently with the Samsung EVO, or Pro due to that read/write firmware issue? It was supposedly solved back in an October patch but idk since I dont have one yet. Thanks in advance.
  8. Oh so it's 2400, I didn't recognize that. I thought 8 CAS is faster than a 11 but the 2400 can just hold more(like a pitcher compared to a cup). Am I wrong?
  9. Gaming, if I did any video editing it'd be only randomly and not often. The M.2 is only like $20ish bucks more, would that be justifiable instead of getting an SSD to avoid no cables?(just a thought)
  10. So different cpu cooler, ram, and psu. That cooler would be hard to come by(only one store sells it via partpicker) plus it seems too wide and may conflict with 380T's back fan but I'm not sure. That ram is CAS 11(mine was 8). Is CAS 11 better than 8? I thought the lower the CAS(and timings) the better. That's a nice fully modular psu(it'd be great with silverstone short cable kit which includes a really short 24 pin connector) but I'm unfamiliar with XFX psu's. Is it reliable? How's the noise and length? Thank you very much for the suggestions so far!
  11. Tyvm for the suggestions! So CM Hyper TX3 for about $10 cheaper for cpu cooler. Z97i-Plus for motherboard(this was also my 2nd choice) I chose Maximus VII Impact cuz of few extra features like soundcard and BIOS addons such as secureSSD. Why Aegis over the G.Skill? Personal preference? The Aegis' CAS latency is 11(G.Skills are 8 with better clocks). Am I missing something here?(really idk lol) Oh and why remove the M.2? Is it worse than a SSD? Thanks again!
  12. As the title says. After careful consideration (literally investigation lol) I have decided on this build with help from others on the forums. Thanks a LOT u guys. What u guys think of this build? Edited so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/zerojeremy1/saved/CRcBD3 Should it be revised? If so, what parts and why? Budget is $1400, prefer to keep it mITX, and gaming capable. Thanks a ton in advance .
  13. I plan to ditch the silverstone case and use the 380T(I just really like that case) I had a couple of questions for u: 1) Why Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory over Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory? I like the Ballistix more(low form factor) but hows the cooling and speeds compared to the Vengeance? If the Crucials are just as good, I'll grab those instead. 2) Why PNY XLR8 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive over Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive? Are they the same? Cuz the PNY is about $30 cheaper. Thank you for helping me .
  14. This is the revised: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sjW9yc Is it efficient/reliable to use just the M.2 instead of an ssd? (I'm trying to cut out clutter, and using an M.2 takes out two cords) The M.2 is there to compare to the 840 EVO. What u think?
