  1. I could really put this starter system to use as a Christmas gift for my brother, who never got into desktop gaming and is still stuck with the console crowd. I bet there would be plenty of game titles he would like playing on it.

  5. I would love to win this. It would be just the motivation I need to build myself an upgrade from my old setup,,,, and dem cores,,,,mmmmmm,,,,nice.... I would like to test out how much better this would perform over my 4770k, when do some video editing.
  6. Another update from our friends at Corsair. They have updated their Corsair Link Beta Software. As of 4/17/2014 - Corsair Link Software Update BETA Version 2.6.5214 is now available. The link below should bring you to their main page. This Beta Version may be better for those of you out there that are having problems with the software working with Windows 8, and 8.1. I have installed the latest version using the instructions on the Corsair forum, and so far so good. Knock on wood. All my device temps, and fans are showing, even my Asus Maximus Formula VI motherboard temps are now showing. But I don't want to sound too exited, lest I anger somebody, and my whole system crashes. Good Luck to you if you decide to upgrade to the latest. I hope it can help fix some of your issues. In the interest of using the latest software I'm re posting the link here; http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118618
  7. I like this one too. If we can work with ATX size this might work out great.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions, This looks incredible. I really agree with you on the waiting. I was also hoping the prices for the 700 series will be dropping soon. (I have my own eye on a 2nd Asus 780 direct CU for my own rig to run in SLI) We will likely wait for a a couple of months to research and price shop the parts. He's not in a super rush to get any of this right away.
  9. Thanks, for the reply. Good to hear from the other side of the pond. He would need to get the OS, and the only other peripherals I can see he would need would be the standard Mouse and keyboard, but as I mentioned these would be secondary to a game controller. Another important point forgot to mention would be that he would want the system to be as quiet as possible.
  10. So a friend asks me, if I've seen good prices on gaming laptops, and if so what are they. My response to him was: Why?? What do you want a "Gaming" laptop for? I had to ask because my friend doesn't really do anything in the PC gaming world. As I type, he is currently logged on to the Xbox, and is playing away as usual. His response to me was he wants to play different games, but on the PC rather than the Xbox, in order to make use different Mods, and features that the PC experience provides. Games such as Mass Effect etc. Ok, I reply, "but you don't want a laptop. For a better experience you should get a desktop PC. My thinking is a Mini ITX PC would provide a much better experience than a Laptop, and offer more in the way of customization, and upgrade ability. I've built my own Gaming/ home PC. So I'm perfectly capable to build for him a custom build. But I personally went waaayyy over budget, for a specific look, and theme on mine. Which was fine for me, but not when I'm making recommendations to friends. I don't want to push him into a direction that would end up being too expensive and not accomplish what we want to achieve. So, Enter the LLT community. So, with planning a new Mini ITX build in mind. Can you help us out? 1. Budget & Location He is wanting to spend between $500 to $800 US. But would go over if the case can be made for specific value or quality. 2. Aim The aim of the build would be a Mini ITX system suitable for Gaming at 1080p to 2k on 1 monitor, and basic home use (web browsing, work related MicroSoft office stuff) 3. Monitors He has a 1080p Sony 37 inch that he would use for a Monitor. 4. Peripherals He would need to get a keyboard, and mouse for games that do not support a game controller, but otherwise the Keyboard and mouse will be secondary to the controller. 5. Why are you upgrading? (See first paragraph) - But really, my thoughts were why not jump on this opportunity to "convert" a Console gamer to the "proper" PC MASTER RACE cause so any help and suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks for the additional tips Coswar. Your tips helped me as well. After going back to the original Non beta software version of Corsair Link, all of my fans and temps showed. With the exception of the motherboard temps, which did show under the beta, but the fans did not. I'm more inclined to go with the options of controlling the fans and seeing their status, than the motherboard temps. BTW I'm on a ASUS brand as well. The Maximus Formula VI, with AI Suite installed. Thanks again for the tip. I'll probably stay with this until they come out with an official Windows 8.1 version of the software where they've worked out all the bugs.
  12. Good news, sort of. Corsair has released a new version of their Corsair Link software for the H100i that does resolve some issues for some systems that are using Windows 8.1. After following the instructions for the new install on their forums and trying it myself I can report that the end results was a mixed bag of good, and not so good. I was able to "see" and change my Pump LEDs, however I still could not see my fans. After reading thru the forums, this result was not too unexpected. The guys at corsair are trying to fix up their software to work with all systems, but are not quite all the way there. For any out there wishing to try out the latest software you can find it here: http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118617 My advice to you all is read up first, ask questions, and proceed after making sure you know what version of the Corsair Link software you are currently using before you uninstall and install the latest. (just in case you need to go back to the version you were previously using) Good luck to you.
  13. Hello All. I came across some information that I thought would help this thread out so I thought I should add it here, in the interest of keeping everybody in the community informed about the H100i or H80i. I recently got the H100i to add to my new PC build. After completing the build and installing the Corsair Link software I discovered that the I could not "see" the H100i pump, or fans in the Corsair Link dashboard. Making it not possible for me to customize the fan speeds, change the pump color, etc. I contacted Corsair support with my specific parts and Operating system (Windows 8.1 Pro) and they replied informing me that: "We are aware that our software is not compatible with the official release of Windows 8.1 and we are working out a solution." So until the "Solution" is found and the updated firmware released the H100i and H80i cannot take advantage of the Corsair Link features. (IE. customize fan speeds, Monitor fan speeds, change pump led colors). This does not mean the H100i/H80i cannot be used with Windows 8.1 systems. It should still work and function to cool your CPU, and with some "modifications" you can get the Corsair Link software working on Windows 8.1. (more info on the Modifications here:http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118618) I can share that using the option to disable the USB in Device Manager, Reboot the system, then re-enable the USB worked fine for me. Those of you out there considering the H100i/H80i for your system, you definitely should check out the links if you want to use the latest Windows operating system if you intend to get the most out of your Corsair H100i/H80i. Hope this helps those out there with the same issues.
  14. I was going to have the same problem with my upcoming build. Glad to see that my question is already answered. Of couse the downside to using the ROG_EXT port for an extra USB connection is that you won't be able to use the ROG OC panel if it ever becomes available for purchase separately. Of course then you could always add an Internal USB expansion card, like the NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion. This one from NZXT has gotten good reviews when I was looking for a way to solve this problem, and opens up future expansion options.
  15. Thanks for the suggestions. I appeaciate the help.
