tl;dr at the end
hello guys,
so last Year I bought the MSI GE73 8RF gaming laptop. It has:
- x2 8gb ram
-gtx1070
-core i7 8750H
When i first bought the laptop I tried some clasic e-sports I play and I used to get 250~ fps on csgo and 180~ on Dota 2, both on max settings.
After couple of months of normal use I started getting way lower fps than I used to. around 120~ fps on csgo and dota dropping to 80 fps min during team fights etc.
at that time I didnt look in to it and I convinced myself that the games had some graphical patches that caused the fps drop. espacially other triple-A games were running at the expected frame rate. (RE2 Remake, DMC5, shadow of the tomb raider etc all 60+ on max settings)
But recently I connected my laptop to my friends monitor using hdmi, which is directly linked to the dgpu and I got the usual fps I used to get (250csgo-180dota).
after some googling I read that nvidia optimus may cause some minimal fps drop (5-10fps) while gaming on high fps (e.g esports games) which is fine for me.
the thing is am getting around 100fps less on such games which kinda sucks.
so here comes my question. has anyone had the same issue with their laptops or anyone knows how could I fix this?
I assume what caused the issue is some stupid drivers and/or windows update. If thats the case what should I do at this point? I manuelly updated both gpus and I have the latest windows 10 update but still having the issue.
any Help is highly apprecieted!
tl;dr
Im having huge fps drop when playing games at high fps (e.g csgo from 250 to 120) on my laptop, which is apperntly caused by optimus. The laptop used to work fine when I first bought it but now i have to connect it to a 2nd monitor to get the normal fps I used to.
