  1. Answered my own question. Upon further research I found this https://sourceforge.net/projects/monitorswitcher/ it works perfectly for creating a simple hotkey for switching displays. This is a pretty niche software so figured I'd come back and add this in case this gets indexed for others to search.
  2. I saw autohotkey brought up a few times, but everyone is similarly critical towards it. Was wondering if there was anything else as/more reliable and possibly less controversial. If that's the best we have it'll have to do.
  3. Hey guys, been poking around google and can't seem to find consistent and recent results for this question. The closest I got was this guy trying to do exactly what I'm trying to do - but it's from 2012. https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/way-to-run-a-macro-to-enable-disable-2nd-monitor-make-primary.2222461/ In the replies one person recomends Catalyst Control Panel, and he has it set up pretty much exactly how I would want to set my macro up, but it seems like an AMD specific software. So, question is, what is the best free modern macro tool I can use to create a macro that will allow me to easily enable and disable screens for my setup? Thank you! My PC: i7 8700k MSI Aero GTX 1080 8GB 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHZ ASRock Z370 Pro4-IB Motherboard
  4. I've been reading up on these for so long and I'm still incredibly confused about what I should do for my AMP/DAC situation. I don't have a lot of money for this, I got the headphones open-box and they sound amazing plugged directly in my computer already, but they just aren't loud enough yet; which I expected. I know I need and AMP and probably a DAC, but I have no idea what to do. I was dead-set on getting a Drop O2 + SDAC DAC/AMP, but the 120V for the U.S. is thoroughly sold out, can't find it anywhere. They only have 240V European plugs, and please tell me if I'm wrong but won't I need a transformer to power it? If I just need a regular old adapter I can make that work and will probably simply do that. If it's going to limit power, however, I wouldn't want to do that. All that being said, if there are equal or better options for around the same price on Ebay then I'm open to suggestions.
  5. This looks like an awesome option! Just to be sure, it works wirelessly as well as via LAN, right? I can get a LAN cable for it soon, but it's ideal that it's wireless for now. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
  6. Yeah that's exactly what I'm trying to do. Hopefully somebody knows, I don't want to have to keep asking different forums until I get a solid solution but I may not have a choice c'est la vie I suppose
  7. It was the display projection that I've been trying to use, when I open my notification tray and look at quick actions I see the "project" button, and it gives off the impression that I can use my device exactly the same as if it were a wireless monitor. I could be wrong too, but when I was researching ways to make this work it appeared as though using that was the official Windows supported option. I appreciate the recommendation. Synergy would sort of solve this for me in a way, but it's a paid program and it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm using my desktop on a TV for the short term but my laptop is, well, in my lap. I just want to be able to directly manipulate my desktop from my lap. I've considered using chrome rdp, but I want to be able to use my device as a true 2nd display instead of simply mirroring.
  8. Hey guys, this is a follow-up post to my previous one trying to troubleshoot Miracast. I realized I may not be able to solve the problem there, assuming it's even worth solving. I've heard Miracast is really hit or miss and can be really garbage at times, so I was hoping someone knew of a better option! I just want to extend the display of my windows desktop to my windows laptop wirelessly. Simple as that. Well, simple in theory as it seems thanks again you guys!
  9. No Corsair case? But you were so close!!! Dope build either way though
  10. I should add if any of you think miracast is trash (seems to be a popular opinion) and have a better way of connecting my surface as a second, extended display, I'm open to options.
  11. Hi guys! I'm trying to get my Surface Pro 7 to miracast to my gaming rig that way I can use the surface as a second monitor. Miracast seems to work perfectly fine on the surface (go figure) but my desktop says what the title says. I've looked at numerous troubleshooting forums and didn't get any truly helpful information so hopefully I can get some real help. As far as the steps I've taken, I've done all the steps on this forum: https://www.minitool.com/news/your-pc-doesnt-support-miracast.html This includes: reinstalling my network adapter driver making sure my ndis version is sufficient making sure my display driver model is sufficient making sure I'm connected to the network (of course) The two problems I'm having with the article is 1: I can't set my Wireless Mode Selection to auto, as it doesn't appear in the advanced tab for my wireless adapter. 2: is, again, the title. Where it says miracast is available but with no HDCP. I've read in other places that HDCP may not be compatible with older hardware, but this desktop is from 2018. It started with Windows 10, hasn't had any other version or OS before. I'm also running an MSI Aero GTX 1080 and an i7 8700k, so I know this computer hardware is equipped to run miracast. I'm not sure if it may be BIOS setting that got fudged in the setup process, or if there's something else I'm missing. All of the search results I've found barely give any information on troubleshooting the problem, and most of the time it seems to be other 3rd party devices that have these problems. However, these are both newer, strictly Windows 10 devices, so I don't know what I'm missing exactly. Thank you for reading! I hope someone can help, I've been working on this for two hours now to no avail! Ya'll are my final lifeline
  12. Looks like that solved the problem. I swear it's always the simplest solutions that go over my head Thanks a lot!!
  13. He has a prebuilt HP Omen with onboard WiFi, using an HP mobo. I don't think I updated any drivers for them specifically. I'll get on that ASAP.
  14. Heyo, my roommate is having issues with his desktop having very high ping. This hasn't been a constant issue, just every now and then he'll start his PC and everything takes forever to load and he gets high ping in games. I ran a ping test on his system and yea, sometimes the ping fails and when it does ping it'll gradually go up to 800. He thought he just needed to reset the router but since we're both using the same router I told him to let me check my PC first. His is closer to the router so theoretically he should have a better connection, but the ping test on my system is totally fine, it averages at around 2ms. It has to be an issue with his system but I have no idea where to even start to troubleshoot this. Resetting his PC doesn't always resolve this problem either. I checked his task manager and it doesn't seem like any programs are using an absurd amount of any of his PC hardware, so I'm kinda stuck. Ya'll got any ideas?
  15. I have this old ASUS ROG G750JM that's had so many issues over the years but this one's specific. It's a fresh windows install and it's been booting fine which is actually rare. But now I have an issue where the laptop boots straight into BIOS sometimes despite knowing a boot drive is present. I checked my boot devices in BIOS when this happened and the SSD with windows boot manager was there. I reset the laptop and it does the same thing. It's not until I pop open the back and gently push up on the drive until it boots again. Are the SATA connectors on a laptop likely to develop connection issues? I have to work on this laptop often so it's not unfeasible that this is the result of wear and tear, but the pins look okay on both the drive and the connector. Also there's two SATA connectors on this laptop and the one closest to the center of the laptop straight up doesn't work I just can't boot a drive from it at all. Anybody got any ideas or solutions? The laptop doesn't need to be mobile anymore it can chill I just don't want it to keep doing this crap because I want to give it to my friend who isn't as knowledgeable about computers as me and I don't want to have to rush to fix it if it fails to boot
