  1. Budget (including currency): €200-ish Country: Belgium Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mostly media playback, transcoding, AI upscaling if possible. Other details At this moment I have an i5-7500 ITX build hooked up to my 4K TV. But due to the old HDMI version on the mobo I only get 4K 24fps. I would like to upgrade it to something that can handle at least 60fps. At the moment I am doubting between a R5 5600G and i5-12100. The AMD combo costs about €210 and Intel €230. The only PCIe slot is taken by a 2x10Gb network card. I can get an RX550 for €100, but I'm not sure it's worth it, because if I sell my old CPU/Mobo I can get €100. So upgrading could be even cheaper if I go with an R3 if it's worth the it. Any decent upscaling from 1080p to 4k would be a fun bonus.
  2. One of our Server 2012 VM's crashed multiple times during the last week. According to eventviewer it is most likely due to power or crash issues. It has created multiple reports in a DMP file But the problem is that the file is about 1,1GB and I have practically 0 experience using WinDbg. Is there search function that I can use with the report id or bugchecks?
  3. Would anybody be interested in a metal (or plastic?) bracket that allows AM4 coolers with stock retention arms to be put on LGA 1511 CPUs? Like you could put a Wraith Prism on an Intel CPU. I want to start creating that socket converter, but only if there's enough public interest in it. Else I'll be wasting time and money.
  4. We're game developers and want to start our own studio. We've got most front end items, but lack any decent centralization of our projects and data. (Google Drive, but it's full and we're using way too much bandwidth and time downloading/uploading everything.
  5. Alright. Taking your advice in consideration. I will put my web-server on a separate device and network. (Probably a Raspberry pi with Apache for now since our website will just have some information and contact info). But any tips for the motherboard dilemma?
  6. You think we can hire a netwerk specialist if our server budget is only €1650? I may have studied Microsoft server for only a year, but I am still a bachelor at Electronics & ICT with a Sisco certification. Think I'm somewhat qualified for this job. Connectivity hardware? 2 1Gbps ports should suffice for 3 guys to store and download data. And i've also got a decent switch and extra network cards laying around.
  7. Just 3 concurrent users for the first years. Uptime isn't really that important since we won't be using the server constantly. (But still i've thought of that with the PSU). And about that refurb dell. I quote my text: I know I could just buy an older xeon like an E5-2670 v2, but finding the right motherboard is a pain in the derrière Rack mounting is not an option yet. We don't have the space for it.
  8. Me and a couple of buddies want to create a tower server for the bunch of us. I'm thinking of the next functions: Storage server DNS server (I've got a static IP) Webserver (I've bought a couple of domains already) The hardware i'm planning to use: Ryzen 7 2700 (2 cores for each function and a spare pair to mess around with) Generic 32GB RAM 550W Seasonic focus plus (80 plus platinum) 3 * 8TB Iron Wolf in RAID 5 (Storage server) 3 * 120 GB mSATA SSD's ( already have 3 random cards laying around) Mobo not chosen yet My questions: Should I choose an expensive mobo with most of the needed functions built in or a basic mobo and buy expansion cards (RAID card for HDD's, M.2 SSDs converter)? Should I make 1 huge server with all functionalities baked in or use virtual servers? Any ideas on how I could allocate the SSDs? Is there any way to add new disks to a RAID to expand it without specialized hardware? Extra info: I know I could just buy an older xeon like an E5-2670 v2, but finding the right motherboard is a pain in the derrière Rack mounting is not an option yet. We don't have the space for it At the moment nothing's really mission critical so I don't think we need ECC RAM My budget is €1650 max I've got some basic experience with Windows Server 2012
  9. Thank you for the tip about Supermicro. I was not sure if it would be better to choose a server rack or a decent tower to start with. And it appears that we have the same taste about networking manufacturers.
  10. I'm intending to put 2 pc's for 2 gameplay programmers: an i5 and gtx 1050ti 1 pc for game graphics designer: i3 with a 1060 6GB 2 all-rounders pc for myself and my friend who is also studying with me: an i5 with 1060 6GB. Each with an 240 GB M.2 and 16 GB of RAM. Also 1 PS4 pro and PS5 dev kit, 1 Xbox One X dev kit. Not sure what software i'll be using to keep tabs on progression, but i know what software we'll use to develop the game.
  11. Fair point. Like I said: 'I don't know much about requirements for my server to serve my needs.' It are just my thoughts as a normal hardware enthousiast. I would certainly prefer if you would tell me what to use, but I would still prefer to have it in my own space and not just on a third party location.
  12. I know the networking is a bit OP, but the cores i'll definitely need for QA test from a decent sized group.
  13. I would much rather prefer to have everything centralized. I would like to follow my worker's progress without having to nag for them to upload stuff. I don't want my code to be interceptable by other people, so i would like to keep it in my own realms with my own protection rather than let a third party handle it.
  14. If my proposal gets accepted i can get a budget of over €100 000 (my estimated is €100 000, but the sponsors will most probably give more as failsafe according to my contact). And I don't want to be bottlenecked by a bad networking environment.
