  1. Title^ currently using a GTX 950 and its just too weak for me now
  2. You dont think that the current gen processors will take a large devaluation on their prices when the new lineup comes out and i3's are now older gen i5 equivalents
  3. My current Rig: CPU: i5-6600k @4.6 (but can go 4.7 stable) MOBO: Asrock z170m pro4s Cooler: Be Quiet Dark Rock 3 Pro RAM: 16gb G-Skill Ripjaws 4 @3200 GPU: GTX EVGA 950 FTW PSU: 550 EVGA Bronze Im a light gamer mostly, LoL, Overwatch, Rocket League, and sometimes some bigger names like Fallout 4 and Dishonored, but the PC is mostly used for CAD Software and 3D modeling/rendering, Im a Architecture student ,I know that these programs benefit from multi core usage however plan was to upgrade to an i7 when I could afford it. I know that my 6600k is still a strong processor its the reason I bought it in the first place but I cant help feeling that I should sell my CPU and MOBO now to switch to ryzen before Intel starts messing with the used market with the new coffee lake lineup. I do live near Microcenters so my plan for upgrading would be to replace the processor with either a Ryzen 1400 or any Ryzen 3 CPU for now since black Friday is now in a few months I figure I would wait for the real deals before jumping to Ryzen 7 or possibly Threadripper but most likely I wont need that much power. Im just not sure if this is a smart plan or not but I dont want to be blindsided if the used market suddenly drops off and 4 core cpu's become dirt cheap, I guess though I could use that to my advantage and just get an i7 if that is the case but even then I would be setting myself off to a disadvantage by staying on a dead socket. Thoughts?
  4. So Ive been looking to build a second PC to work as a rendering hub for some 3D modeling rendering (3DS Max mostly) someone locally is selling a old server that currently has two Xeon E5620's ARK Link: http://ark.intel.com/products/47925/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5620-12M-Cache-2_40-GHz-5_86-GTs-Intel-QPI But i figured I could get two X7560's off ebay and have the two 8 core 16 threads But I have no idea if this would even be worth it does anyone have any clue or experience with this generation of server parts? Do they hold up currently? or should i just pass and keep looking for something more modern
  5. Heres what I would do for 300 CPU: FX 6300 $50-60 on Ebay MOBO: Any AM3 Motheboard there going pretty cheap right now $30-40 GPU: RX 460 from $70-85 this one from visiontek looks like a pretty good deal for a 4GB refurb https://www.visiontek.com/refurbished/performance-graphics/radeon-rx460-overclocked-edition-4gb-gddr5-404-detail.html RAM: 8 DDR3 Any kit you can get from ebay, but ddr3 prices are high right now $50-60 HDD: Most people have an old one lying around but if not you can get a WD Blue 320GB for$20 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Caviar-Desktop-Warranty/dp/B00VAT701W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490228677&sr=8-1&keywords=320+gb+hard+drive PSU: EVGA 430w 80+ $35 on Newegg, I never buy used PSU too many sketchy looking ones and past experiences have just lead me to buying new ones Case: depends on which size mobo you get but nothing more than a cheap $25-30 bucks case from newegg Total:$280~320
  6. Im definitely worried about it feeling weird since ive never used anything besides a 16:9 monitor before, however I watch alot of movies on my computer since im a college student and have heard for video feedback that the 21:9 is totally worth it. And thanks for the info on the 1060 im def feeling better about upgrading to that ive only heard good things so far
  7. Right so I was more curious with bigger displays cause thats what im after, is it worth going for the 2560x1440 or will i not even notice it and just stick with the Ultrawides
  8. Awesome ill check this bad boy out! Thanks for the recommendation!
  9. Right, Im not really much of a FPS kinda guy I play overwatch but not serious about the game at all, I play more indie cinematic kinda of games and a few big title games, and LoL mostly
  10. Just built my brother a computer and I want to give him my old trusty 1920x1080 monitor, as I figured I could go for an upgrade, definitely something larger than than my 21" display. I found some 25"+ monitors in my budget and wanted to get some opinions on which resolution was better, it can be a little overwhelming, Also im not even entirely sure that my GTX 950 is capable of running games at those resolutions: Its the EVGA GTX 950 AC 2.0 FTW edition. But I was thinking about using the EVGA Step-up program to a GTX 1060. Would love to hear yall opinions!
  11. Right okay It makes sense that way I was just curious to see if they used there MSRP to take the price deduction.
  12. So new to PCMR, and I bought a GTX 950 FTW 2.0 from Newegg on sale for $130.00 bucks with a mail in rebate it will be around $100, One of my friends was telling me that it was a good idea that I bought EVGA Card since I can use the Step up program, So I checked it out on there website and it seems really good, but and im curious if I could just upgrade to the GTX 1060, but unclear on how the price reduction part works. If I bought the card for 100 bucks do I follow the price I bought it for or do I follow EVGA MSRP price, since thats 175 Bucks and the GTX 1060 are like 250 I would totally be down to spend the extra 75 bucks to upgrade to a much stronger card. Or do I have to follow the price I bought it from Newegg.
  13. Hey Everyone, I've been a huge fan of LTT for a while but being a poor highschool student (Had to buy my own car ) could never afford to build any PC's until now! Ive saved up and wanted to spend around $400 to $450 dollars on a build. So far this is what ive put together PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/m49K4C Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/m49K4C/by_merchant/ CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor ($89.98 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus A68HM-K Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($46.88 @ OutletPC) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($33.39 @ OutletPC) Storage: A-Data Premier SP550 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($36.99 @ NCIX US) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($19.45 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 950 2GB Video Card ($97.88 @ OutletPC) Case: Thermaltake Core V21 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($39.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply ($25.98 @ Newegg) Total: $399.19 I dont really play super heavy titles, mostly LoL, Overwatch, and the newest indie game. I am however going into Architecture school this upcoming Fall and will be using programs such as AutoCAD, RhinoCAD, And different 3D Rendering Programs. I know the GTX 950 is a decent card and should be able to run the games I want to play a good settings, but im more curious on my CPU I dont know if the Athlon X4 will be strong enough, Should I wait a little more and save up for a stronger CPU like a i5, or wait even longer for AMDs Zen chips. Thanks
