If you hear noise using the front panel audio port but not the back, would a DAC or DAC/AMP be recommended?

I prefer closed back so that other people won't be hearing what I'm listening to also as to not bother people in public places with my music. I'm not really sure what I prefer in terms of bass, treble, or mids but I listen to a little bit of everything. Mostly indie rock and hip hop/ rap though. They don't have to be the cheapest, anything under $200 will be considered.

I'm looking to get my first pair of high quality headphones to try and get a boost in sound when I'm listening to my music both at home from my PC and on the go with my phone. Since I'll be using my phone I am assuming I'd need headphones without really high impedance. I've been doing some research and ever so typically the Audio Technica ath-m50x are what I see the most of. I've also seen a lot of hype for the Sony MDR7506 and is also under consideration. I would like some other suggestions from the community. I believe I'd prefer closed headphones because I'll also be listening to these headphones on the go and in public places. I'm new to the realm of the audiophile so excuse any ignorance I have.
