  1. Cheers for the help! So I'm guessing its best to stay away from amd micro atx boards ?
  2. Cheers for that. He didnt really want to go amd (bad experience in the past) but thats a beast for the money! Are there any particular boards that you recommend? Im thinking something like the Asus m5A78L?
  3. Hi guys I'm in the process of re building a work colleagues pc which died due to a motherboard failiure. The only parts I need are a new case, some ram and a new mobo/cpu. Ive already decided pretty much on the case and ram although any input would be appreciated. Zalman z5 due to having more than 2 hdd bays in a fairly short case. About 45 cm is the tallest it can be. PNY XLR8 8gb (2x4gb) ram. Simply the cheapest 8gb 1600mhz I can get. However I'm mainly looking for some advice on CPU/MOBO combos. My colleague would like to stay with intel if possible. The current cpu is a i5-750 so I'm looking for something with abit more power but not too pricey, certainly don't need a k chip , an i7 or anything like that. The mobo can be atx or Matx although atx would probably be a waste of space as he has only a 7970 and no plans to crossfire or install a NIC or sound card. Im in the uk and the budget is about £110 - £180 ish but its quite flexible as the most important factor really is price to performance. Any suggestions welcome. Cheers.
  4. This has to be one of the best articles I've ever read on the verge and one of the best tech interviews I've read in a long time. His wide range of knowledge and business ideals is fantastic. http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/20/2811861/marty-cooper-interview Enjoy!
  5. If I was you I would get it but don't expect it to wow you in any graphical sense. I can't wait for the PC version and hope to god that they take full advantage of the hardware as the console versions really don't look that great but there's nothing quite like playing a game that everyone else is playing and talking about at the same time. GTA online was a big selling point in deciding whether or not to wait it out. I just don't think you will get the same experience and amount of players playing if you wait it out. I mean they haven't even officially announced a PC version so you could be waiting a while!
  6. Yes that's what I meant by its overkill not just how much VRAM the cards have . In the UK you can get a 7970 3GB for around 65% of the price of a GTX780. Its all about diminishing returns and what your really doing with the system and what games you are playing. Not everyone plays Crysis 3 all day. Also it was only a question asking what res he was playing at and how many monitors and I was just suggesting depending on his answer it may be overkill.
  7. First of all hello from a fellow Brummie! £1500 is plenty for just a plain gaming system my main question would be what resolution are you planning on playing at? If just one monitor at 1080p then a 780 is probably a bit overboard
  8. Im currently running: 1 x 128gb Sandisk Ultra SSD 2 x 2tb WD Green Drives in Raid 1 1 x 500gb Toshiba External Drive I chose this set up for a number of reasons: - I chose the ssd to use as a boot drive and storing commonly used programmes - I chose the 2tb drives as I needed more than 1tb for my general storage but also needed some data redundancy - My old external drive just stores my most important data that I store but hardly ever access ( old photos, family videos etc) I've been thinking of setting up some NAS for a while but can't really afford it at the moment. Would love to run a Raid 1 or 5 NAS and be able to use my 2 x 2tb WD Greens all for storage in my rig giving me 4tb instead of 2tb.
