  1. If you have the money, go for it. Screw it! Honestly, I would like to see ray traced games fully support SLI/NVLINK as it seems pretty necessary right now for good FPS.
  2. There is another person around here having the exact same issues with the exact same video card. I am thinking there was a batch with bad UVDs in them. I would suggest an RMA. @xkthemaster, what are your thoughts?
  3. Does NVIDIA not have VSR like AMD? I honestly don't see why you want to upgrade GTX 980TIs in SLI just yet, for either resolution, unless you are hitting a VRAM bottleneck of some sort (unless you have the 6GB 980tis).
  4. I would recommend, if going for an upgrade, to get the RTX 2070S or better. Really, NVIDIA has far better support and optimization for VR, so if your target upgrade is for VR, then I wouldn't consider the RX 5700. Oculus also has custom ASR that plays to the Turing NVENC: https://developer.oculus.com/blog/asw-and-passthrough-with-nvidia-optical-flow/
  5. An i5-3470 runs 3.4ghz stock with a 4ghz max turbo boost. I only know because my previous PC was based around one and I overclocked it to the 4ghz turbo across all cores with a 120MM AIO. I wonder if you just set your BIOS to optimized defaults if that may solve it too. Like we are all alluding to, it must be the card, or how it is interfacing with the board. It could even very well just be the unified video encoder having a weird issue. Really, if you take the card out entirely, and just run the PC with integrated graphics, do you still get the same problem? You did say that this does not occur with your old video card.
  6. I would run Ryzen certified kits for Gen 1 Ryzen. I have had zero issues with my RAM, and it is DDR4 3200 certified for Ryzen. Keep it simple, and you won't run into problems. Things have gotten better, but they have mostly to do with the IMC improvements in gen 2 and gen 3. https://www.newegg.com/corsair-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820236214?Item=N82E16820236214
  7. The changes in the CPU multiplier like that are interesting. That shouldn't really matter. Maybe I missed it, from scrolling up again, but have you tried disabling your overclock? Have you also tried disabling the integrated GPU in the BIOS? I wonder for video if it is simply trying to leverage the iGPU and not your 580 (Sometimes Windows 10 gets confused and thinks it is a laptop if it doesn't recognize your UPS. I've had this issue with my build until I installed the proper software for my UPS). I am grasping at straws here, since it is something clearly funky, and I forgot about the Spectre and Meltdown BIOS updates for Intel, so that is a bit rough that it seems some of it is being caused by how your motherboard manufacturer issues the patch.
  8. Not sure why you want to go this route. Why not just make her an account (or vice versa) on your streaming service accounts so she can share the service? Even the basic packages let you have at least two simultaneous streams. If you were to share local media, then just get Plex.
  9. I would consider RMAing the card. It could be possible that the AMD media encoder/decoder chip is having issues. Maybe you should open a case with Sapphire, providing all of the detail that you have here with troubleshooting. For all we know, it could even be a BIOS revision on the board of the video card itself that is causing the issue and they need to send you a new one. It's rare, but it does happen.
  10. Honestly, I missed it as it was a pretty detailed wall of text. I would be curious if this is just an issue with the card and it warrants an RMA or return. Do you have another system that you can test the card in?
  11. With the new IPC enhancements in Ryzen 3000, I would imagine that the 8700 doesn't even have that much of an advantage, if any at all anymore, in Adobe applications. I could be wrong though. Are there any benchmarks that showcase this?
  12. That is interesting! I just had an issue with my new monitor, where unless I disabled Freesync, it would automatically stretch my PS4 to fit the entire screen (It is an Ultra Wide) regardless of the picture settings I chose.
  13. Update your BIOS to the latest. That's the only thing I can think of at this stage. I would also recommend running the latest AMD Adrenaline, as they did just release a new version that should have dealt with the performance impact caused to older cards to fix some stuff with Navi. Also, TBH, I wouldn't even touch AMD Wattman and leave everything at defaults for now. I've had nothing but bad experiences with AMD's Windows overclocking tools that would cause similar and janky issues.
  14. I would also recommend going with an RTX 2070S as your upgrade. That i7 is still great, especially fine for VR.
  15. Hey Everyone! Due to a recent monitor failure, I used it as an opportunity to hop into the high refresh rate gaming space. I currently am rocking a 200hz 2560x1080 monitor with Freesync. My question is, what are your thoughts on high refresh rate gaming in terms of hardware requirements? So far, I am honestly doing fine with esport titles on medium, settings (Can do Overwatch at around 180-200fps at all times with my current setup below. I wonder what the break even point is with a Ryzen 7 1st Gen where it will be the bottleneck, all of that. I am curious about your experiences and view points on this :). Thanks!
  16. Update: I think I will pick this up, as I really don't want to buy LG again, and the reviews seem rock solid on Amazon: https://www.sceptre.com/overview-574.html https://www.amazon.com/Sceptre-30-inch-Curved-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B07TXM7K4T/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=C305B-200UN&qid=1566863314&s=gateway&sr=8-1#
  17. I so far tried plugging the adapter directly into the wall with the same result. It is crazy out of nowhere. Sadly, I think I am stuck and may need to just buy another or change vendors. What a shame! Any recommendations? I would like to stick to ultra wide and 29 inch if possible.
  18. Sadly, it has a proprietary connection.
  19. The strangest thing happened. Out of nowhere, my LG monitor just stopped outputting a signal. I cannot even access the monitor menu. Neither the HDMI input or Displayport inputs are working. I even disconnected the power and let it sit for a minute or two and reconnected. All I can see is the backlight come on, and that's it. I think this thing is dead, and sadly it is a year out from warranty, and even with my credit card additional warranty. This is a real shame. All suggestions are welcome! Thank you!
  20. I would suggest running memtest overnight and letting us know what the results are at your 3400mhz overclock.
  21. Nope, but unless you are heavy into content creation, I don't see any value in going with a 3950X. I think if you are just gaming, a Ryzen 7 will give ytou the extra cores for streaming/recording along with uninterrupted gaming. As much as people push the Ryzen 5, OBS has gotten better optimized for Ryzen and I sit at far lower CPU utilization than when I was running it back in 2017 on the same hardware with the same OC. streaming at 720P60 on the very fast x264 preset, I can record and stream at the same time, and only utilize 5%-10% CPU depending on what is going on. A lot of headroom there to bump up without impacting game performance at all.
  22. If you want 1070 performance minimum, but don't want to break the bank, the RX 5700 is probably the way to go. If you are an NVIDIA fan, It's kind of a tough pill to swallow getting an RTX 2060 or RTX 2060S for the same prices as an RX 5700. Otherwise, I think you are looking at a performance drop in comparison.
  23. Is this your board? https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/B450-I-AORUS-PRO-WIFI-rev-10#kf Looks like support is there now for the 3000 series. I would not look at anything below the 3000 series. The massive improvements made render buying first or second generation pointless, unless you can get them for dirt cheap IMO.
  24. If it is another Ryzen 5 1600, then yes. It could be very specific to that model in the board with that BIOS revision. We will see when you are home and can test Honestly, first gen Ryzen had a lot of strange quirks. I still run into the occasional one every now and then, though it is overall far more stable than day one. I remember Ryzen Master being a disaster to use, and I refuse to use it even to this day.
  25. The most recent major Windows update made major changes to how Windows leverages the CCXs on the Ryzen CPUs for overall better performance. I would highly advise making sure the BIOS is up to date, as you may very well have just patched to it.
