  1. Hey everyone, I am looking at building a gaming computer and cannot figure out the differences between motherboards or which one to get. The specs I will be running are; Intel i5-8400 GTX 1070 16 Gigs (2x8GB) at 2666 MHz I have the possibility of getting a SINGLE m.2 drive in the future, and plan to run 2-3 HDDs/SSDs through SATA connections (not sure if that really matters or not, thought I would mention it). I have been doing a lot of reading on the different series of motherboards, I have decided to go with the H370 series or B360 series. I have a hard time understanding which of the two would be better for my use case, I don't fully understand the difference of having more PCI-E lanes (as far as I can tell, that's the only thing I should really care about) If anyone has any posts to explain how to calculate PCI-E lanes or a ELI5 of why I need more or less of them for my rig I would love to read about it. Also is there anything else I should look into between different models of the same series? For example I don't understand the differences between these two boards 1, 2. the specs list show there are a few differences between them, however I don't understand how they affect me. Thank you for all and any information you can give me!
  2. Hey everyone! I am building my friend their first ever PC and would love some input on the hardware choices. This unit will be for gaming, their interests are in Overwatch and a lot of Blizzard games, though I full expect that to change throughout the years. My budget to work with is $1500 CAD, and plan to wait for a lot of things to go on sale before buying them so the list below probably has some room to move I did some very basic research on CPU's and came to the conclusion from multiple ad placement "reviews" that the Intel i5-8400 is the best for gaming, but I do assume this is true. I am not personally comfortable with overclocking but I am willing to learn if that is the suggestion, I dont think OCing in this type of build is needed personally, so I have not looked into any K-series processor. I am not sure what to really look for in motherboards, I want the availability of m.2 just for future proofing, but other than that I have no idea what to look for PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU Intel - Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core Processor $244.99 @ PC-Canada CPU Cooler Noctua - NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler $109.95 @ Amazon Canada Motherboard MSI - Z370 GAMING PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard $164.50 @ Vuugo Memory G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory $163.99 @ Newegg Canada Storage Kingston - SSDNow UV400 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $79.99 Storage Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $47.99 @ Newegg Canada Video Card Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card $299.99 Case Fractal Design - Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case $99.99 @ Newegg Canada Power Supply EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $115.99 @ PC-Canada Operating System Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit $119.75 @ Vuugo Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $1447.13 Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-10-12 21:25 EDT-0400 Thanks for any input!
  3. Hey guys, I was looking through a lot of older posts on here about the Blue Yeti; I bought one for streaming purposes and I love using it, however the quality on the actual unit is not the best because I have it placed so far away from me, I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a microphone arm for this monster of a product. Alot of reviews on products are very back and forth on if it works because of the weight of the Microphone. I am sure this has been posted before and I did look through 3 different pages but I found nothing recent on this subject. I am also looking into a pop filter, I think? The way I will be using my microphone, is going to be to the left of my head about a foot or less away from me, I am not sure if I should be getting a pop filter or a cover that sits ontop of the microphone head and covers all sides. I hear the yeti is very sensitive and I am not sure what I should be looking for when it comes to that. I have no idea if I am using the proper terminology so I will be overly clear about this; This is what I have been looking for when it comes to "mic arms": https://www.amazon.ca/Earamble-Microphone-Professional-Suspension-Adjustable/dp/B06VX1ZW2M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1508124913&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+yeti+mic+arm I also see Shock Mounts; but I have no idea what they are for: https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-Microphones-RADIUS-II-Microphone-Shock/dp/B00TTQLA50/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1508124954&sr=1-1&keywords=blue+yeti+mic+shock+mount There are these pop filters: https://www.amazon.ca/Neewer-Studio-Microphone-Filter-Shield/dp/B00ACFAULC/ref=pd_bxgy_267_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=P91KD31FCM0VF3YTRV05 But I am wondering if these are better for my use, or if quality will be lower with them: https://www.amazon.ca/Mudder-Large-Windscreen-Technica-Microphones/dp/B01EMUQ08O/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1508125017&sr=1-1&keywords=Blue+Yeti+Mic+cover Ideally I think I will be hanging the microphone upside down depending on the length of the arm, but I have very little knowledge on this; any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
  4. Thank you all for the help, I've decided with the Gigabyte one!
  5. Hello, I was looking at buying a GTX 1070 at a local retailer, I am not sure what differences the cards have other than price, or what card is even best. I am currently running a Ryzen 7 1700 (OC 3.9GHz), 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM, and have 3 displays running. (PRICES ARE IN CAD) The current local options are; MSI GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC ($570.63) MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G ARMOR ($599.99) GIGABYTE GTX 1070 8GB GAMING ($553.91) ASUS GEFORCE GTX 1070 8GB TURBO ($575.19) ASUS GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX ($619.50) Some of the prices are all over the price, I'm not sure which one to pick since they're all pretty similar, any assistance would be great!
  6. There were no codes at all. After tinkering around DVI works... but HDMI and displayport still don't... GPU works fine in my second pc but don't know why they wouldn't with my new one. I can now get into Windows via DVI. What's the second step to get displayport working..
  7. Hey everyone, I just finished upgrading my computer to Ryzen, it was working fine, booted into Windows. I did a bunch of driver uninstalling from my old hardware (mainly gigabyte stuff) and used Driver Sweeper from Guru3d. Looking back it might've been the fact that it was well past midnight but I think it was the program that may have uninstalled drivers from my graphics card... stupid mistake on my part. Because ryzen does not have a dedicated integrated graphics I cannot test with plugging directly into the machine, my guess is that the GPU had the drivers uninstalled Specs: Motherboard: X370 Gaming Pro Carbon (link here) CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 RAM: Ripjaws V Series 16GB PC4-25600 (link here) clocked currently at stock 2133 GPU: Radeon R9 390x HIS PSU: 750 Watt Supernova (I think by zotac? Can't remember) Windows 10 if that helps at all. Steps taken already: Monitors have been tested on other computers GPU works in other computer Don't know what else to do
  8. I cannot see me doing SLI! Thanks for the reply! Awesome, fast reply thank you for your input!
  9. Hey everyone! I have decided to try out streaming, and because of that I need new hardware. I have slowly been learning about computers over 3 years (when I last built my bad idea of a computer), my current one is not the best but consists of; Intel i5-4590 3.30ghz Intel Stock CPU fan 16 gigs of ddr3 ram (1333mhz, 8gbs x 2) And finally the AMD 390X HSI series GPU The machine is okay at playing games but I assume it's going to tank when I start streaming; I need an upgrade and have the following questions about it. I obviously need new RAM, what speed should I be looking for? Also should I try and go for 8gigs x 4 to get 32 gigs of RAM? Or is that overkill... looking at prices that's about 400CAD worth of ram, pretty expensive. Speedwise is motherboard dependant but I'm not sure if there's any reason to even go higher than 2133mhz for what I am doing, but I'm clueless with how intensive streaming is. CPU wise I've done my research and decided on the Ryzen 7 - 1700x, I do not think the 1800x is needed as theyre all just changes in clockspeeds, is there any reason for me to go higher than 1700x? Ryzen CPUS come with the stock cpu fan, I always hear people say it's better to buy one that doesn't come with the cpu, should I look into that? What fans are recommended? And lastly; when looking at motherboards what should I be looking for, which ones are best? I prefer to buy locally, but I'm not against buying online; these are all the motherboards I can buy in my city (there's not alot) B350M GAMING PRO mATX w/ DDR4-2400, 7.1 Audio, M.2, Gigabit LAN, HDMI, USB 3.1 ($114.99 CAD)>Link Here< B350 TOMAHAWK w/ DDR4-2400, 7.1 Audio, M.2, Gigabit LAN, CrossFireX ($154.99 CAD) >Link Here< X370 Gaming Pro Carbon w/ DDR4-3200 (OC), 7.1 Audio, Gigabit LAN, DisplayPort, HDMI, CrossfireX, SLI ($249.99 CAD) >Link Here< X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM w/ DDR4-3200 (OC), 7.1 Audio, Gigabit LAN, DisplayPort, HDMI, CrossfireX, SLI ($384.99 CAD) >Link Here< Thank you to everyone who read my wall of text, I look forward to the replies!
  10. This would be fantastic for parties, or even for out of house use. Just hang up a white blanket between a few trees, and you have your own mini theater. Such a huge screen!
