  1. So I'm looking into buying a laptop with a budget equivalent to around $550 (stretch to $600 if it's worth it) and I've seen a good few options for all sorts of configurations. I will mostly be using this laptop for school, so that's a lot of publishing, chrome tabs and some light 3D modeling (nothing more than a few simple architectural models in SketchUp) but I also want to play some games on it, things like KSP, and Warthunder with some older AAA titles like Dishonored and MW2 - note that I really don't mind having to turn settings to low. So with my uses down I want to ask, do I go for a better CPU with lots of RAM (i7 with 8-16GB) and use integrated graphics or get a slightly lower-end CPU with less RAM and a discrete GPU (i5 with up to a 950M, but mostly 940Ms available). Here in Malaysia there's plenty of choice for laptops of either configuration so I'm sure I can find something, I just wanted to hear the opinions of those more tech-savvy than I first. Thanks for reading.
  2. So I built my current rig back in 2012 and while it's not quite looking like a microwave just yet, it is beginning to show it's age - particularly since I upgraded my gaming monitor from 1080p to 1440p. It is still capable and I can certainly keep gaming with it for a while longer but I certainly want to look at upgrading. So my question now is would I be better off waiting until around June/July 2017 and picking new hardware then? Are there any PC component releases coming (or that could be coming in that period) that should inform my decision? Any information or thoughts are greatly appreciated, cheers lads.
  3. I recently moved into a student housing complex and the power here is rather expensive and being a student I want to save as much as I can on power. So in an ITX framework I want to try and squeeze as much power in to 250 watts as possible, of course anything under that is a huge plus, 200 watts would be a cool stretch but I think then it's just becoming impractical. I'm mostly playing fairly easy stuff like KSP, CS:GO, and indie games, but I do play some demanding titles like GTA V, BF1, and Dishonored 2. But that said, I don't mind turning settings down to medium if it can save some money and power. I'm asking here having done fairly minimal research because I honestly don't know where to start, the system will probably end up being ITX or Mini-ITX just because those motherboards generally consume little power (And I like small cases) but from there I don't know where to go. I already have an efficient 1080p monitor and peripherals and I've adjusted for them already. I also have a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD from an old build so I have some storage, but would probably like something a little larger if it's possible (totally fine if it's not though). Any recommendations for any parts (or how to best go about finding parts) would be awesome and very much appreciated. Thanks for reading.
  4. I'm helping a friend revamp his old PC and I'm having trouble finding a case that can fit his Cooler Master V6. So would anyone have any recommendations for a case with 165mm+ cooler clearance that isn't too expensive? Cheers lads.
  5. (Alright fine, you got me on that one) But Banned for not having 0 posts.
  6. My current machine is sitting quite comfortably in a Corsair 450D, the airflow is better than any case I've had so far and there is loads of cable management space. Yet some of the people I know still insist that I should save for a modular PSU because of the unused cables on my current non-modular. Some of these cables are tucked away behind the motherboard tray, but most are currently sitting in the bottom spreading out infront of the PSU, and I am told regularly that they'll only cause dust to build up and reduce airflow through the front of the case. So is there truth to these claims and is it worth spending on a new PSU to keep it clean? Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks lads.
  7. Banned for having a Nekogirl as a display picture.
