I'm in love with my 4th gen X1 Carbon. The keyboard is amazing (literally the best laptop keyboard I've ever used, including old Macbook keyboards, OG Thinkpad keyboards, and an XPS 13), the trackpad is pretty good (even though I use the TrackPoint, lol), the screen is very nice (but it would be nice to have the 1440p one, not that I need it I just want it lmao), it's very thin and very light, sexy as fuck, plenty fast even with "just" an i5 and 8GB of RAM (perfect for media consumption, TF2, and Wii emulation), the battery life is great (I can get 5-6 hours of video playback (not streaming) on full brightness and if I drop the brightness down to about 50% I can get 5 hours of Wii emulation), and it's built very well.

The only gripes I have are that the fingerprint scanner doesn't work on Linux (not the Thinkpad's fault, just that nobody has made this type of fp scanner work on Linux), I still don't really like the function and control keys being switched, and I don't like the position of the page up and down keys (I will often hit them instead of arrow keys). One small gripe I have is that the lights (power light, function lock light, mute light, etc.) are a little distracting (I wish they were white instead of green/orange). Other than that, incredible machine. Good fucking job Lenovo.

    Good to know.

I've had my eye on the T480 lately...

I was thinking a T series, but IMO unless you reeeeeally need the extra ports or extra expandability/upgradability, I would get an X1 Carbon (if you can afford one, that is...they aren't super cheap lol).

One more minor gripe about it: X1 Carbon is kind of weird to say IMO. T460 or X260 rolls off the tongue easier.

I would prefer to have a bunch of ports on my laptop, I've been running into problems with my current laptop because none of the USB ports work, so I've had to use one of my desktops for everything USB-related.

I use my systems for a pretty wide range of things that's kind of only expanding, so having a laptop that can keep up with all that easily is important to me. A P50 would still be nice, but I don't think I want to spend that much on a laptop...

But by more ports I mean things like Ethernet. Mine has 3 USB ports, a headphone jack, miniDP, HDMI, and Onelink+ (kinda useless but it's there).

New ones probably have USB C/Thunderbolt and whatnot.

The Thinkpad X1 Carbon Tablets are equally fantastic.

I need a new PC probably because the one I have has buggy network drivers with linux, and I basically work as a network sysadmin so a linux distro is a must, is it a dongle-hell?

Not for me. I bet the only dongle you might need is a USB to Ethernet adapter, and maybe a miniDP to full DP if you can't use HDMI.
