  1. I feel so stupid right now!!! Thank you for your time Have a good day
  2. Im unsure if the app is just an updater or not, this is all the store page says.
  3. Hi Sorry, i should have started there, let me clarify I'm not great at networking but it was my understanding that DuckDNS gave you a subdomain (that points to your constantly updated public ip) so with services like nextcloud you can simply provide a domain rather than the port forwarding route. CasaOS is basically docker with a GUI and im playing around with setting up a few other services through it- like nextcloud or calibre server etc (the apps im playing around with all work locally). I (on reflection naively) assumed that the duckdns app once configured would point CasaOS to the subdomain and so let me access CasaOS and anything installed on it outside my network. I installed the app and in settings it was preconfigured with the pi's local IP, so with the sub domain in its category and the token in that field i had assumed CasaOS would be accessible outside my network Unfortunately there seems to be few guides for duckdns in general let alone this specific use case Thanks for your reply Edit: I managed to track down the Github page- linuxserver/duckdns - Docker Image | Docker Hub -
  4. Hi All I have just installed Casa on my raspberry pi and have downloaded the DuckDNS app hoping to get it easily accessible outside my internal network, however when i add the subdomain and token info i got from the duckdns website to the config settings of the app i just get a bad gateway error. Im not very proficient at linux or docker container configuration so im not sure whats going wrong. Does anyone have any ideas what i can do/ try as the process seems fairly straight forward but obviously isnt Any extra info you need just let me know Thanks
  5. I do know the difference, the point of raid was that i will need a solution that is already bigger than most HDDs and as they get alot more costly per terrabyte i wanted something reasonably cost effective to act as storage so a windows storage pool acting in raid 5/6 seemed the obvious choice. I used to have a usb enclosure for my 5.25 buray drive but i found this too combersome and as the enclosure began to fail i thought it best to move onto something more permanent. As im sure your aware not many cases have 5.25 bays anymore and my phanteks enthoo evolv is no esception. But yes your correct that mostly what im looking for is a storage array and some protection would be good (the case i has 8 bays so i guess investing in raid 6 would be no big deal, good redundancy and still space to grow)
  6. Thanks for the reply, i wasnt thinking of having the external instead of an internal parity more a seperate cold back up parity disk In terms of why the answer i thought would be fairly simple in theory if the array is raid 5 but eventually grows to greater than 18tb (beyond the limit of a single hdd back up- which i will have ofc) i can effectively keep a drive spare with an image of the data that could act as a cold back up to be swapped out should 2 drives fail internally (am i making sense or is this a waste of brain power?) in my head if 2 failed i can swap out one of the failed drives with the cold parity drive and allow the array to rebuild the blank one i replace one of the failed disks with. Ill certianly look into it if you believe it best, the two software i use are makemkv (for bluray and 4k films) and aimersoft (a generic dvd ripper) the point of the case was a single machine that can handle it all, i dont really want to have 2 machines if 1 can be built to do both. Unless, are you saying truenas can run a windows os to run the programs and access the raid array which is running zfs?
  7. Hi Im building a small software riad for my increasing bluray backup (plus all other valuable data) the array will be built of 8tb HDDs, in a cooler master silencio 550 (i went to a fiar bit of effort to find a case with 5.25" bays as well as many hdd space). I have 2x 5.25 blueray drives and an 3rd 5.25" bay with an hotswap bay. Hdds go upto 18tb currently in the consumer space, i considered however that it may be useful to create an external parity drive for the array in the pc. The array will be running windows as my backup software will need to be run on this ofc and i dont understand enough about unraid or similiar things to worry about running containers and feeding the hdd space to it etc (seems too complex to worry about tbh) This is more a thought experiment atm but due to the fact that a single large drive is also very expensive- based on the fact the array is unlikely to be updated very often- could an drive be created for parity to keep in as an "external" spare to help rebuild the array should one drive fail? I know most of you will say nas or synology but i really dont need anything like a nas just a vault to protect my data and hold my bluray drives etc May also be worth mentioning this pc i will need to run headlessly which i will be looking into so any advice here would be great (no i dont want a subscription). Any thoughts on this would be welcome. Thanks alex
  8. Hi I have a strange issue with my recently upgreaded build firstly the specs... Ryzen 3600 (with the spire cooler from my 3700x) Asrock x570 matx 16gb ram Msi GTX 980ti Corsair CV650W psu The event viewer simply shows kernal power under critical error- nothing else. The issue is when playing some (i beleieve intensive games) like hitman 2 and watch dogs 2 i get random restarts in the middle of the game at (seemingly random time in eg 10 mins, 20 mins, 32 mins etc(. The strange part is that when playing vr which i have done for hours the pc doesnt behaviour this way. i have updated drivers and bios jsut in case and han it with temps program and the cpu doesnt get above 75c and the gpu 83 so its not a temp issue that i know of. My current theory (that i cant prove either way) is that the psu is outputting too much voltage ripple resulting in instability during higher demand parts of the games. Does anyone have an other better ideas or troubleshootings tips ii could try? id rather not RMA the psu but i will if i have to becasue currettnly some games are just unplayable. Thanks in advance
  9. Thanks, yes I do mean optical audio (that little square plug) my htpc passes an awful crackling noise along the HDMI to the tv, assumed it was interference but I've tried different HDMI cables to no avail. The pc never used to do that until I put in its gpu (when I turned it into the vr pc from soley htpc). The reason I need optical is that I can directly connect my pc to my sound bar with optical. As I was thinking of upgrading the pc anyway finding a board with optical seemed like a sensible and logical option. Any thoughts? Cheers for getting back
  10. Hi all I'm hoping someone can help me find a ryzen itx motherboard with s/pdif for my htpc/vr upgrade. The only boards I've found are a second hand and dodgey looking x370 biostar on eBay (not sure id trust it with a 2600/3600) or the new asrock x570 (which costs a fortune) It seems that the number of itx boards are limited in options and I'd rather not have to resort to using a converter to get this connection so any help would be great.
  11. because when I compress them with handbrake I can choose how much quality to loose not some awful converter program that strips more than half using a much worse method as its visible
  12. Hi All I am working with 2 rather large files (around 30gb mark) their in mkv format right now, I need to put them together and render them into one file (preferably losslessly) then I intend on using handbrake to compress them a bit. I know this might seem contradictory, the only way I know how to do this is to convert them and tell the converter to merge the files (sadly this removes a lot of quality from the files) even though the files are supposed to be 1:1. just to illustrate that last, the two originals are 50gb ish together, but after conversion theyre not much more than 14gb. so I assume a lot of quality has been lost somewhere. Any ideas how to merge the two without taking such a quality loss? Thanks
  13. That being the case, anyone know how to merge partitions without losing data and preferably free?
  14. Thanks for the link heres the info, don't really know what im looking at tbh
  15. ive uploaded pictures of the explorer and nothing seems to account for 10gb
  16. That was my initial plan when upgrading however I formatted one of my large hdd to appear as separate drives in this pc, it seems the case that as its now a dynamic disk It cant be read by other windows systems bar the one that created it. this ive tried by removing and plugging it in to docks for other pcs to read...nothing. I don't know of any way to merge the partitions together and not for free (I don't have much money to buy anything) so that's a non starter sadly (although I suspect this windows itself is the problem) p.s. its a 6tb drive so a simple back up/ copy, paste job really isn't an option either. Thanks for the suggestion though
  17. Yes that's the right word for it, heres the screenshots. I don't remember seeing windows defender there before but even so I it doesn't add up to 10gb and no idea what windows wants with that much ram!
  18. Hi I'm sure this has been asked many times, but whenever I try searching I just get an error code back! (next topic coming up! :) I have just upgraded my computer to a Ryzen 3700x from an fx 8320. I went from 8gb to 16gb ram. When I was using my fx, w10 reserved only 4gb whilst now I have 16 windows has taken 10gb. This cant be normal behaviour can it? if its abnormal is there any way to fix this?
  19. Just wait for a month if you can zen 2 will be more powerful and in terms of price to performance it's by far the best option it's only 4 weeks away.
  20. Hi I recently bought a good soundbar (a sony ht-rt4) for my LG tv. Like many sound bars it has preset for movie, game, etc but my tv does as well (The tv is connected through a optical cable). Whats the conventional wisdom here? Is the tvs preset better to use or the sound bar? Any other advice for getting the most out of this set up would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance
  21. Thanks for the suggestion, I tried it and it works much better but it's still dropping too many frames (and the cpu is still maxed out) very strange but the mpc hc worked fine
