  1. Performance wise they are the same so it all comes down to aesthetics. Asus has better lighting, backplate and 2 fan headers. If you dont care about looks then get zotac.
  2. ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 ArcticStorm because it looks cool. For non-watercooled 1080 the asus Strix or the gigabyte extreme
  3. Windows Defender is pretty good, I use it on my pc. ESET Endpont is also decent but you have to pay for it. Other than that, most AV software is not so great. I have heard great things about Karpesky tho. Avoid McAfee, Norton or Avast. McAfee is the worst of all, poor detection and performance. Norton hogs resources even at idle(I havent used Norton since like 2006, not sure if they fixed it). Avast used to be ok, but I found out it has a bad detection algorithm. I just fixed a laptop that had avast on it. No viruses it said, yet Windows defender detected 2 Trojans.
  4. apparently quite a lot of ppl http://forums.evga.com/badHOT-PCB-Layout-on-GTX-1070-FTW-m2565921.aspx http://forums.evga.com/GTX-1080-FTW-Black-screen-fans-spin-up-to-100-m2530081.aspx https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/59ormq/been_outa_the_loop_what_in_the_world_is_going_on/d9a7zby/ https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/580b8w/welp_my_evga_1070_ftw_just_killed_itself/ https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/58hnzb/word_of_warning_the_evga_1080_blackscreenfan_bug/ https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/59v6co/rip_evga_ftw_gtx_1070/
  5. http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/ FAQ Q. Which cards are supported by these updates? A. EVGA ACX 3.0 GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 or 1060 cards with the following part numbers: GTX 1080 GTX 1070 GTX 1060 6G GTX 1060 3G 08G-P4-6181 08G-P4-5171 06G-P4-6262 03G-P4-6365 08G-P4-6183 08G-P4-5173 06G-P4-6366 03G-P4-6367 08G-P4-6284 08G-P4-6171 06G-P4-6265 03G-P4-6167 08G-P4-6286 08G-P4-6173 06G-P4-6264 03G-P4-6165 08G-P4-6384 08G-P4-6274 06G-P4-6267 08G-P4-6386 08G-P4-6276 06G-P4-6368 * Founders Edition, Blower type, HYBRID, and HYDRO COPPER cards do not need these updates.
  6. yes, the 1060 are affected too, but since the gp106 produces less heat they are less likely to burst into flames. If you feel unconfortable about it, get a different brand.
  7. get the 4 gb version. Most current games use at least 3GB of VRAM
  8. bf1 is cpu intensive, get an i7 if you can + gtx 1060. A good cpu would last many years, but a good gpu would last a couple of generations at most .
  9. If you dont mind playing at low setttings and 720p then you are good. Based on my current setup, anything after GTAV came out will struggle on a core i3. Im goint to upgrade to 7700K as soon as it comes out.
  10. that seems about right, I get 39C at idle, room temp is 25C. ( Yes I have the 1060 but it has the same cooler and same pcb)
  11. these kind of threads are not allowed in the forum, just so you know...
  12. the z170-a is pretty good, affordable with tons of features. No problems after 5 months of use.
  13. not exactly since your programs and documents are stored in different drives. if your OS drive is failing the best thing you can do is clone the drive to a new one. That way you keep all your settings and configurations without reinstalling windows.
  14. the only problem I see is that you are increasing the points of failure. Meaning, if one of your drives fails, it could cause a lot of trouble for a the whole system(especially the OS drive).
  15. open world games that need to stream textures constantly would suffer. If you really need a HDD, get a fast one.
  16. evga stated that they made changes to the production so all 1070 and 1080s include thermal pads now but why bother? get zotac, msi armor or asus strix, DO NOT GET the founders edition, it is a waste of money..
  17. it depends on the game but yes it will bottleneck in modern games. I get 50~ish fps in battlefield 1 at medium settings 1080p. The 1060 is able to run BF1 at 1440p 60fps with ultra settings if you have a nice cpu.
  18. this, just because your gpu is running cooler it doesnt mean you can overclock the hell out of it.

    1060 6GB OC?

nope, at least not at stock speeds/presets
  20. xGGAx

    1060 6GB OC?

it does help a little as the card is able to draw more power. The only downside is that your card will be running at 100% all the time, thus producing more heat and draining your battery quicker
  21. virus= harmful malware =annoying A virus may destroy/encrypt important files, crash your computer, block updates and programs, steal personal data such as banking, etc. Malware on the other hand, may hijack your browser, show pop ups or fake alerts. most antivirus only detect viruses, thats why we need a different app for malware. back in the day malware wasnt a thing, not everyone was online so antiviruses only detected viruses
  22. I would not recommend avast... A friend of mine brought me his gf computer with avast on it. Avast said everything was alrite, i uninstalled it and installed windows defender and it found a couple of viruses right away.
  23. get the newer one, you can upgrade to kaby lake if you need to
  24. xGGAx

    1060 6GB OC?

it depends on the game. I got +2 fps more in heaven benchmark when i overclocked to 2100 mhz
  25. wait for the 1080ti, better performance and better efficiency than 980ti in sli
