  1. About two weeks ago, I finally picked up a new power supply. Now upgraded to a Seasonic M12II 620W PSU.
  2. What motherboard did you get that causes issue with the graphics card? Mine only had issue with the sata ports (and I got a right and a left angle sata cable to at least have two available). Here's an album with the pics from todays rebuild. And here is a pic of how I wired up the dell switch in parallel with the case switch so that the switch actually worked. (click for full size) As far as the front panel connector, I forgot to check to see what happens if I just connect the grounding and or common pins together. It may just check for that or it may be checking for the diagnostic lights that are part of the front panel. Ultimately I just ordered all the little bits from ebay. While it was an interesting challenge to get the dell mobo working in my case without errors and with the front audio jacks, I do still regret not just selling the Dell mobo on ebay and getting a normal mobo for the cpu. It ended up costing just as much to get the Dell heatsink, case fan, front panel connector, switch and temp sensor (though I bought only one of the two not realizing there was two and it has never complained about the missing one).
  3. I get my new power supply in roughly 48 hours and I will be able to put the one in my new rig back into my modded 790 rig. I will perform some testing tomorrow for tricking the board into thinking the 34 pin is connected even if it isn't and I will try to get a picture of how my power switch is set up and what wires I had to tap into. If I did not have the original power switch hooked up, the computer would turn on by itself when plugged in and pressing the switch did nothing. There is some voodoo going on with that switch that I cannot understand. And yes I used a lot of mays because I had the 34 pin so I have it connected and zip tied to the side of the bays in the case. I even wired up my front panel audio ports. Although honestly I should have just plugged the headset into the back of the computer. Better sound quality there anyway.
  4. When I did mine, I had to actually put the case switch in parallel with the original Dell switch or it wouldn't work. If you do not have the 34 pin connector plugged in, you will get an error on boot. It may be something you can just hit a key to get past it, but it will still happen. It may be possible to just bridge the grounding pins to fool the motherboard into thinking the front panel is connected, but I haven't looked into it yet since I have the actual front panel connector.
  5. Did you (or someone else) get your 75 year old friend on the bring your own access free plan already? Otherwise they're still paying for their AOL subscription.
  6. I am still able to access my AOL email with my phone as I was before. The desktop application was the only thing that was effected.
  7. So update, I have found that ehti 2 allows me to actually play world of warcraft while still mining as well. I've also started using the dual part of claymore to mine LBRY. I get about 19mh/s in each without any intensity adjustment and with -ethi 2 and -dcri 20 I am getting about 19 eth and 14 lbry. When I fire up the game it drops to about 14 / 10. The game is typically between 45 and the vsync max of 60. 1080p graphics 7 vsync on.
  8. If you are using Claymore and want to lower the intensity so you can mine while still using your computer for basic tasks, use the -ethi flag. By default it is set to 8. I found 4 allowed me to still watch online videos while mining.
  9. So after a bit of plugging about I have discovered how to lower the intensity of Ethminer so that you can mine Ether while still having enough resources left to use your desktop for normal tasks like watching youtube videos and general web browsing. Building the dag file is still rather intensive though. This may only work with Nvidia cards. I don't have an AMD card to test with. To change the intensity level, use the --cl-local-work flag when running the miner. The default value is 64. I tested 50 on my GTX 970 and still had enough resources left to stream video from the xfinity website. The following links are provided to hopefully help promote this post in search engine ranks for people looking for this information. The links are to posts of people asking how to do this. I simply don't want to create more accounts - and more exposure for LTT isn't a bad thing. https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/3mc5h0/change_mining_intensity/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/4e1v79/intensity_of_gpu_miner/ https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1258802.0&ct=ga&cd=CAIyGjk4YjY4ZDExNTYxOTgzZTk6Y29tOmVuOlVT&usg=AFQjCNGrugxLqlK5dcQK_eQYV-wF1rQJvA
  10. interesting. No idea why. It's a site that tracks the trending value of items on ebay. Just typed it into chrome on my phone and got no error.
  11. oops, I was off about 100. the 390x is probably worth like 400 cad so 520 out of the 980ti if his end game is to sell a gpu.
  12. Yes but clearly the person that proposed the trade is trying to take advantage of him. They want 120$ from him for a card they can turn around and then sell for 300$ and basically get 420$ for their 980ti. But more than likely they just want it to mine daggerhash and don't want to pay to play.
  13. Even trade is the lowest thing I'd consider, and TBH 75 cash on top of the 980ti is probably more appropriate for him to be offering. The AMD card is worth more than the 980ti in current market conditions. https://us.bidvoy.net/r9_390x/27386 https://us.bidvoy.net/980ti/27386
  14. 1060 is pretty good, but 3gb may not work with Ethereum a bit sooner than you want. The dag is already over 2gb
  15. They can likely still be used for things like video rendering so there will still be some use for them.
  16. 1070s are also low stock from people that were selling their used RX cards for the price of a 1070 and getting a free upgrade.
  17. Is it that far of a drive? (sorry not sure how big Spain or provinces are)
  18. That's the only real good thing about ebay. If they sell the card as working and it's dead on arrival you can make a claim and ebay buyer protection will kick in.
  19. You ask the seller if they're willing to display it working when you go to buy it, or if the seller comes to you if they're willing to let you test it in your system before buying it.
  20. http://www.ebay.com/itm/263039930412 Point your friend at something like this card here. Might have to lower graphics quality a bit to not overflow the vram buffer, but IMO would provide reasonable performance for the price. Or a GTX 970 is a better choice if he can get it for a good price. I know they have gone up to around 200+ since the mining craze hit and people were looking for budget cards. Used to go for 150. RX 560 also offers reasonable value for a new card.
  21. I wouldn't stop til it was no longer profitable. lol Get that 1070 paid off faster. And selling the cx450 would bring back at least 20 bucks too I'd think.
  22. My suggestion would be to find the most powerful 2gb vram card he can find used. Since the DAG dataset for Ethereum is over 2gb new miners that think ethereum is the only profitable thing will be looking over these cards so the price should be relatively unchanged.
  23. If you want to see what I've got going on, I made a thread about what I have going on over in the folding/mining community forum.
  24. Yes it consumes more power, but my profitability calculations were based off the same 19 cents per kilowatt hour. [edit] I should also add that you can significantly downclock and lower the TDP of the Fury to lower the TDP to bring up the efficiency as the equihash algo that is most profitable with the Fury card is likely more profitable because of the memory bandwidth than the core speeds. Yeah, I am mining with the GTX 970 I already had - and I'm not an experienced miner, I only started 10 days ago. I just understand basic maths. Yikes. No reason for xeons, unless you can get cheap used low power xeons that can profitably mine CPU based mined crypto like monero. (or you simply don't pay for power) My 2500k @ 4.7ghz can mine about 43 cents per day thru cryptonite algo, but consumes about 33 cents per day of power. If the power was free though, that would add 43 cents per day profit my way and would definitely be worth doing - although I'm not sure if I had 6 GPUs on the system if I could still CPU mine without effecting my GPU hashing like I can with my single GTX 970. Another potential use case for a powerful CPU would be if you were making large CPU generated plots, but still that would take a while to recoop the costs of.
  25. It's really funny that the Fury x has a lower bidvoy average sale than the RX 580 considering it's almost a dollar per day more profitable than an RX 480 and the 480/580 are so similar that an OC on the 480 basically is a 580. Some people just not thinking I guess.
