    unfortunatly that dosnt ship to canada but i will deff consider ebay listings. I am not above getting used hardware. thats how i plan on doing the 10g sfp goodness.

    Ya as cool as it would be to be mostly fiber its prob not practical atm. This rack will be in the room i sleep in. Once i put this together and confirm it works i mostlikly wont take it apart again for a long time so hotswap bays arnt anything im super interested in. Though i have a work around if i decide to get some.

And yes one of the reasons i want sfp is that on the chance i go all sfp then the switch wont sound obnoxious or take an obscene amount of power as far as i know.

    Yes i wanna go custom. I have a few cases in mine. I was just curious that if i had to go rj45 befor i go sfp if i would have any trouble. And wether i should think about what cpu i should be using in relation to the eventually amount of bandwidth being used. (This thing will also replace my external more or less.) Simple is boring. It dosnt line up with my obsession at all. Also for the record i dont wanna think about price because prices change alot all the time up here in canada.

    Again it's about high speed storage. Not an insane amount of storage. I'm perfectly aware we can get 8 or 10 or 14 tb drives easy. I dont care for them because of reasons stated earlyer. It's not quite about practicality it's about somthing cool while having a use. I may make a vault nas at some point but for now I wanna stick with this. And like I said no I dont. I hate thinking about that kind of stuff. Most of this thing I would get over time then the drives all at once so lots of flexibility.

    again im not sure. mabey 3500 or 6k if i remember correctly Its been a while im hoping for 8tb at least but would be nice for more then that. if i can find it cheap enough mabey. The thing abotu the nvme drives im not sure how that would go as the only ones i see are in a m.2 format. Im sort of debating atm. it might just be just from my nas to my pc with a solid copper cable or i might get a switch and do the while network up like that. i havnt decided yet.

    1440 or 4k stuff mabey ( depends if i have good moniters by this point) Im not really setting a budget. It will depend on how crazy i wanna go with it. I REALLY hate hard drives. I have one 4tb external for backing up some stuff atm (but plan to replace at some point). I just dont really trust them. Also they are big and heavy and power hogs.

    As far as im aware. Thats kind of the idea of those lineups. Taking out features that mostlikly wont be used. b550 is the only budget line board that has pcie 4 i think and thats only one slot.

    So i have a plan for a server rack thats about 22u tall. One of the servers i plan on having in it is a NAS. I plan on hooking up a 10g sfp+ connection to it between my nas and my main tower. The idea is to edit off of it. I dont plan on having 200gb size files or somthing but i was wondering whats the minimum bandwidth you would recommend for this task? is there any cpu bottle necks i should consider? I was planning on throwing in either some reasonably cheap amd cpu or intel server chip. My plan is an all ssd nas ( i hate hard drivesand avoid if i can help it). Prob sata ssds since i have no idea how i would do a nvme ssd array for this kind of a task. The idea is atleast 8 if not 16 drives (using 2 sas/sata hba.) I since i will be editing off of them i was planning on using a zfs solution. Mabey proxmox or somthing. And yes i am aware this is crazy stupid but i have an addiction to storage and i need to fill it. No idea what case im using but since they will be sata ssd i can just double side tape every thing worst case.

    the little rubber bit is the thing that you use to hook on to the header on a motherboard.

    Any idea what the little rubber bit on the end of normal headers is? And a guide on how to do them properly?

    I'm looking at getting a bunch of momentary switches to turn on my pc among other things but I have some questions to see if this will even work. What kind of cable should I get? Preferably black but idk what Guage or what have toy I should get for this. Length wise I think it will be a meter and a half at most that I will need. Will it carry the signal that far? Any tips? The idea is to make a small panel on the edge of my desk that I can use to turn things on.

    Will a Usb 3.1 gen1 header work with usb 3.0 plug? Im putting a new mobo in a fairly old case and i was wondering if its backwards compatable. Im not looking for speeds i just want my usb ports to work when i need them to

    Try checking out your bios settings for that mobo. there might be a setting that has them disabled.

    The thing is like gpu arnt the only electronics that are having a hell of a time being in stock. Even cars are getting screwed. Thats why i said it will prob be a while. Alot of people dont trust used mining cards as well.

    Look at local used and hope you find somthing at a decent. 970 Works fine for most games at the moment with some tweeking. This drought will last QUITE a long time the way things are going.
