    May have to change a bios setting to actually get the m.2 slot enabled. I had this happen recently with a Z170 board from asus. Looking at the manual for the Asus x99-a the m.2 slot is shared with pci-ex16_4 slot and there is a toggle between auto and x4 mode. In x4 mode it disables the m.2 slot.

    Space Heater #1 I7 5930k with 980ti hybrid. Originally had a 780ti originally but it smoked while folding over the winter. Storage includes 250gb boot ssd, 3 240gb ssds in raid 0, 5 4tb in raid 5 for media storage, 2 10k raptor drives in raid 0 (Had them sitting around doing nothing). Spends about 70% of its time folding. Space Heater #2 AMD 8350 with 3 970s. Liquid cooled media center pc in the basement connected to two separate rooms using usb and hdmi over ethernet adapters. Mostly used just for tv recordings, virtual machines and folding. Media center is connected to a hdhomerun prime with an actually functional cable card.
