Search up freenas, a lot more in depth to setup but you learn a lot and you can do mostly everything with it. I have a plex media server for my tvs, a modded minecraft server and a ton of windows smb shares. I bought a 8tb external drive and shucked the drive out and had a ton of 2tbs laying around so I put it all in my old z77 system in the closet. Edit: You can use a 8GB or more flash drive as the boot drive too so you don't have to waste an entire drive for the 4gb freenas boot files

Odd idle temps with a ek spc-60
its__Michael replied to its__Michael's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
oh no the 60 in the title is part of the pump name haha sorry. -
I just recently noticed that my idle temps have a pattern in them and I can hear the pump fluctuate and see a +-10rpm pattern in rpm too. I was just wondering if this was normal. Here is a link to my pump(https://www.ekfluidgaming.com/ek-xres-100-spc-60-mx-pwm-incl-pump) teal line is cpu temp, yellow is cpu package temp

EKWB A240G pump noise
its__Michael replied to its__Michael's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Not at all, I was too scared it was gonna happen. So I didn't let it go below half the res when I filled it haha I filled it last night and tilled it back and forth but still I imagine there is a ton of bubbles in the loop I did have the pump connected to the W_Pump header so I changed it to the cpu header and was able to adjust the speed, anything over 40% makes the noise still but it seems like the noise is slowly going away and happening less. -
I just put together a EK a240g kit with a extra 360mm extension last night and my pump has been making this noise since I turned it on. The noise is actually quite loud and extremely noticeable. Is it a bad pump? I even have 4mm rubber rings around the screws that are holding the pump Video link - https://youtu.be/t4PZ543hx58 Edit: Pump is connected to W_PUMP+ and is running at 2599rpm according to asus suite

This issue has always been over my head as I think the thing I understand the least would be RAM in a computer. I recently upgraded to 7700k Kaby Lake from a 3570k Ivy Bridge. I always had the same issue with my ddr3 in my z77 build I believe it would always be around 1333mhz, and I just never bothered fixing it for years. Now with my ddr4, I got 16gbs of gskill trident z rgb 3200mhz and the cpu z reading on the memory tab is Also a picture of the main tab on cpu z -

KL w/ Z270 Features vs HaswellE x99 Features
its__Michael replied to its__Michael's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Oh thank god benchmarks, this will make this easy -
I've been posting and looking around a lot in the last two days, and I'm still torn on KL 7700k vs x99 HaswellE 5820k I have everything I need in terms for storage and peripherals and want to spend under 1500USD for a upgrade from my z77 i5 3570k @5.0GHz build I've had and upgraded for 4 1/2 years. Planning out a computer with a color scheme and features before hand is more involved now then it was when I was still a kid and built my first PC by just finding the most recommend parts 4 years ago and just going with it haha. I know x99 has been out for awhile now and some of the x99 motherboards where made a couple years ago since the adoption of x99 has been around longer then say, z170 and z270. My question is if I went with an x99 build with a 'newer' ASUS x99 board (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132831) (it still has an aura header!) would I lose some cool new feature that has been around with the zXXX asus lineups?

What do you guys think of either case? I have been looking into in the phanteks evolv glass for a long time now, and I have really liked it and everything about it. I have a silver and blue x99 build panned for this year and I like the Galaxy Silver of the phanteks but I love the full 4 panel glass idea in the corsair case. Cons of each for me would be Phanteks No metal main cable management channel that the corsair case has, only has phantek Velcro straps. Only has a cut out for a 360 rad going into the basement (?)Not being able to use a front mounted rad while using the hanging drive bays in the case? Corsair PCB of mechanical 3.5in drives show since the mounting solution on the back is "flipped" some of them are green and ugly Is there a corsair light bar you can buy? I'm looking forward to aura from asus so that might not be a problem anyways. More of an open case due to there being holes around the glass panels ==== dust Now corsair has included x3 really nice looking RGB fans that are visible through the front of the case with ability to add two to the top as well. Other question of mine is water cooling support for the future I like to keep my cases for a while which one would be the better option andddd both are priced equally at 179.99USD with the corsair one being on newegg backorder for a couple weeks which is fine but what am I losing or gaining for the more 'premium look' for 4 tempered glass panels in the corsair class at the same price point as a Phanteks which i hear has great build quality,.

3570k @4.9ghz --> 7700k w/ OC
its__Michael replied to its__Michael's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Highly, I've done cross county with it in my backseat... taken it to friends houses around California... fully metal except for obvious parts. fans still working amazing... only one blue led has died after 4 years cause I never change them to green or red.... drive bays are great... lost the key to lock the drives and side panel but i didn't need it.... side panel is on hinges... the side panel fan isnt stupid with a cord hanging on to it.. it has like a quick disconnect on the hinge. 10/10 would buy again but i'm tired of it after 4 years which is a personal problem.
