  1. I like how the HTC has a MicroSD slot but isn't flooded with bloatware crap and gimmicky sensors like a certain competitor.
  2. Game Boy Colour. My grandparents got me one of those Pokemon Gold/Silver versions that changed colour for my birthday when I was 7 or 8, but they didn't know you had to get games for it.. So basically all I could do with it was turn it on and look at the Game Boy logo until I finally got Pokemon Gold a month later. Sure was fun!
  3. Very interesting news especially for Australians. I'd go so far as to say we're at a huge crossroads when it comes to the internet. I'll go to the trouble of explaining our situation here... Basically since the mid 90s, we've had a telco named Telstra have a complete monopoly on the copper infrastructure here. They were originally government-owned until then-PM John Howard decided to sell it off, thereby giving the company complete control of the country's internet. It was only until a few years ago that we had a very anti-competitive landscape and everyone had to put up with tiny internet download caps and sluggish download speeds. We were in the dark ages. Fast forward to 2013, and we are still on ancient ADSL internet. Our current government is rolling out a Fibre-To-The-Premises rollout around the country and they call it the National Broadband Network. It will offer speeds of 100mbps but can supposedly be upgraded to offer speeds of 1gbps down the track. There is huge uncertainty with it though, because: 1) They've been rolling it out for 2 years now but it supposedly won't be completed until 2020/2021 - Doesn't take a genius to see that it's a very very very long time and anything could happen between now and then 2) In the past 2 years since the rollout began, only a handful of cities in the country have the NBN. It's always been behind schedule so we probably won't see it finished until 2022/2023. 3) The NBN is the biggest white elephant in the country because it costs around $40-$45 billion to roll out, and the current government (Labor Party) are vilified because they've wasted so much money on failed policies since they took office in 2007 4) There is an election this September... And in 2016... And in 2019... The Labor Party is hugely unpopular at the moment and look to be steamrolled by the Opposition (Liberal Party). If they don't lose this year, who's to say they won't lose in 2016 or 2019? 5) If the Liberal Party takes office in September, they will change the rollout from Fibre-To-The-Premises to Fibre-to-the-Node. Their FTTN rollout will offer slow speeds of 25mbps (barely faster than ADSL), cost $25 billion and won't be finished until 2018/2019. It will be faster to rollout because it will still use copper going from the node to your house, which is stupid because the point of the NBN is to replace the copper. We've also had 4G wireless for 2 years now. The three major telcos, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone have rolled out and are beefing up their own 4G networks, with Telstra saying they'll be able to cover 2/3 of the population by mid 2013. I've seen people get anywhere between 30 and 90mbps on 4G so far. I can only get 7-8mbps on ADSL. Another thing to consider is if the Liberal Party assumes office and we end up getting stuck with their trainwreck FTTN rollout, we'll get pushed back even further. There are also people starting to propose wireless is the way to go, and with news of this 5G wireless, it could make sense if we could somehow get bigger download caps than a few gigabytes a month. That said, congestion would be a huge concern, as it was with 3G here.
  4. Hi everyone, so I'm going on a road trip on Saturday morning and it's going to be a 3 hour drive. Fortunately, Linus now streams at around 8:30AM Saturday mornings where I am (Australia), so I was going to watch it on my mobile with the Twitch.tv app. Problem is, I only have 1GB of mobile data available. Does anyone know how much data Linus' stream would take up in 360p? I'm a bit paranoid of going over the 1GB allowance because after that, I get charged 5 cents per MB. Cheers!
  5. Microsoft are stupid, but they can't be that stupid to put an always-on DRM thingo in the next Xbox. Not a big fan of Xbox anymore since they reduced their exclusives to Halo, Gears and Forza, and alienated the core audience with Kinect.
  6. Don't come onto the forums asking people for stuff then insulting them for suggestions. That crap is uncalled for. What if you looked at modding your side panel and putting a window in? You oughta look it up on Google and see if it can be done. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. Spending a few hundred on a new case for a window seems like a bit of a waste, and more fans isn't going to make alot of difference in temperature. It probably won't be worth it for how much more noise it will make.
  7. Hi all, good to see the forums are up :) Not sure whether I should post this in the Graphic Card or Displays board so here goes. I have a Samsung S23A950D 120hz monitor I got back in April, and its been doing this annoying flickering for the past few days now. The other day, I decided to tilt the screen back slightly, and decided it looked way better than having it stand up straight. Went to play some Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl and had a play with the brightness settings and "Magic" angle settings (which seem to be sort of a preset brightness profile depending on how far back the screen is tilted). Started to notice the screen would flicker in dark areas, sort of how a CRT has those flickering lines. Went to play some Team Fortress 2, and navigating through the class selection and loadout screens as well as the Steam overlay, I found the same flickering thing happening. It also happens in Total War: Shogun 2. I have tried switching my monitor with a 32" TV and still got the flickering, tried switching from DVI to HDMI and still got it, which has led me to to believe one of my GTX 680 cards is dying. However, when I looked at screenshots and watched recorded footage from Fraps, the flickering wasn't there. I'm gonna try switching my GTX 680s around and reinstalling the drivers tonight after work, but what do you guys think? Would it be a problem with my monitor/TV or one of my graphics cards?
