  1. Dell 5378, with i5-7200u. Does this laptop fully switch over to AC power when sufficiently charged via Dell Manager Lite I set it to 90%, because my last laptop, circa i5 2nd gen, would trickle charge between 99-100 and after 1-1.5 years of mostly plugged in the battery life, 100-0, was about halved. I know engineers have better designed laptop circuitry, but can't find a definitive answer of if all the power will come from the AC and battery is saved. (probably won't make a huge difference in the long-run, just mostly curious)
  2. just throwing my 2cents into this: h110 mobo is fine, considering it will have little impact on your build pentium G4560 seems great for the price 8 gb ram is perfectly fine, doesn't matter unless its some very weird brand i think rx 460>1050, but not sure about 1050it great idea choosing 80+ bronz psu from EVGA, yes also factor in keyboard mouse monitor. those can add up. i know HP and acer make cheap mointors, azio makes a cool mechanical keyboard that didn't break the bank but there are cheaper options, logitech mouse i have is open box and perfectly fine. hope that helped. and good luck!
  3. 1050ti outperforms it. so as long as they are a good amount less than that.
  4. buy cheaper ram, because it really won't affect game play or anything else. better/ more reputable psu, evga is my fave, can't really save much, from what i can tell. unles you get less than a 480rx, depending on what games you play less could also work well.
  5. just on looks NZXT Noctis 450, i'm a fan of the b/w storm-trooper look but if all else is the same its whatever YOU prefer to look at.
  6. i'm not sure the specs are totally right, I checked xfx's website, but came out more confused than going in. http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/products/amd-radeon-rx-400-series#* maybe this will help...
  7. don't spend extra on the IPS panel. might be nice for media consumption/content creation. more of a "creature comfort" thing. not a huge i difference. i did notice it is slightly annoying to position my TN laptop in the right position to see things well, but eventually i got used to it, ~a week.
  8. gtx 1070 would be better. unless you really like console exclusive games.
  9. as long as all the working stuff is working. yes.
  10. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-9800-vs-GeForce-GTX-960M according to this, ^, comparing the laptop gpu to the minimum required gpu for that MMO, it seems to be on par. I'm not too knowledgeable myself, but i hope this helped.
  11. my vote is for the rx470, or wait and save up for rx480/gtx1060.6gb. My logic is: if you want it to last 3-4 years get something good now. getting less 470 may only give you 2 years, but really depending on what setting you want to play which games at. 1050ti seems to be doing alright right now at 1080p, but i'm guessing will decline fast. vram will help with more details/textures now but especially in the future.
  12. Maybe look into acer predator or lenovo, thinkpad? but don't know much about them.
  13. is it an old case? the power on button might be faulty. unplug the front panel on switch leads on the mobo and see if it still happens.
  14. for your budget, go for laptop/external gpu dock thing. Don't think tablet would be satisfying. i think dell xps line has capabilities to connect with gpu dock. plus you already have a 1070, probably save money by keeping it rather than selling it and buying something else. (and the 1070 is a huge improvement over the 1060)
  15. more usb ports and wifi can be either via pcie expansions or using the preexisting usb ports. pcie is better, unless money is REALLY tight so the few dollar difference might make a difference. (search "wifi(/usb) adapter pci(usb)" should give plenty of results. ) Drivers are always online, need only flashdrive.
  16. i'd say this over the hyper 212 evo for silence. but i expect the evo to perform better. but just ever so slightly. both reputable brands i trust.
  17. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132571&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Motherboards+-+Intel-_-N82E16813132571&gclid=Cj0KEQiAsrnCBRCTs7nqwrm6pcYBEiQAcQSznM8okVo8rFZqSopkHpWHYLqOuxaWMCB7KyqMsqY04OMaAn118P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds i always trust asus.
  18. or try coretemp. cpu should might run slower at that temp, is there any changes in performance?
  19. cheap cooler? would be good to watercool in the future.
  20. i could be wrong, but i remember the black ones also have an extra cable, a shorter one.
  21. If you don't plan to overclock teh z170 board is a bit over the top. For the price i5 6500 might be better (price/performance based) (b150 chipset is good enough) gtx 1060 should be fine, I'm thinking of getting one myself if i find a good deal. 500gb SSD should be OK for now, for windows, a hand full of applications and a handful of games. If you want to save a little more you can get a smaller SSD and only put the current few games/applications on that and use your external drive for longer term storage of games you don't play at the moment. I don't have any specific suggestion on case, but i'm sure you can get a cheaper one if money is tight, really won't have an impact on gaming as long as you have decent cooling. That being said, at least 2 case fans.
  22. for build quality I know of levono thinkpad laptops which list a long time and build well. XPS from Dell also look really nice and depending on the configuration would do fine. I also agree with AluminiumTech
  23. For best improvement/$ I'd say just get the 1060 and upgrade CPU/mobo/ram in the future. There may be a bottle neck but it should still be a decent improvement. this is also good advice^
  24. Depending on what your use case is 4 physical cores of the i5 6500 may help a lot vs the dual core hyper threaded i3. But for basic things and light gaming i3 should be fine. (i'm making a pc with i3 6100 for my parents who moslty watch videos, does taxes, excel stuff, and such. i3 is actually more than what they need but will be nice to have when i inevitably have to maintain it for them from time to time. might turn that into a HTPC at some point too) For medium gaming/video or picture editing i5 would help a bit. I have an i5 6500 and it runs great. (even runs some games at 30-40fps decent settings without gpu, will get eventually) If you have time to wait, wait. See how the new one performs, and the last gen chips may even go down in price a bit.
