  1. Yeah that really sounds like a bad cable. Replace that. I will say ebay is great at getting that cable. Now keep in mind if you get that cable and it still is having the issue then it is the port on the board that is getting the power from the power harness. But the cheapest route (typically) is replace the cable for the power harness.
  2. So that sounds and looks like bad cabling from the power plug harness to the board itself, because you had to apply "pressure" to the port on the board where the harness gets plugged into. If possible replace the cable and/or replace the entire harness and cable.
  3. I was also looking at that one as well. I forgot to put it on the list.
  4. So here is the situation, I currently have a dual monitor setup. My main monitor is an old (2008) HP LP3065 30in monster 2560x1600 monitor. It has served me well for the 3-4 years I have owned. I got it second hand from my work back then,( which we picked up as a monitor pickup from a command center for a power company.) however it has been occuring more frequently, the monitor will burn the current image in, and hold it for some time, until a new image is displayed. This monitor is also very finicky, hates all forms of adapters, and it only has Dual Link input. I do like to play various games, FPS like (COD, L4D2), Action Games (Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed), Third person shooter (The Division, Gears), Simulator games (Spintires), Management/RTS games (Frostpunk, Supreme Commander, Cities: Skylines). I also will be using this monitor to work from home as well. I want to replace my main monitor. I am looking to spend absolutely max 400 USD (before taxes and shipping). I have been looking at a few monitors but I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on any monitors that you have seen or used. Below is the list of monitors I have looked at and are on the "short" list. Needs list: 2k between 27"-32"(give or take 5") Ideally above 120Hz Would be nice list: VESA mount ASUS TUF VG27WQ https://www.newegg.com/black-asus-tuf-gaming-vg27wq-90lm05f0-b01eb0-27/p/N82E16824281049 HP 27xq https://www.amazon.com/HP-27-Inch-Monitor-Freesync-Technology/dp/B07FCHFH3Z Rocksoul RSGM-32K3G https://www.amazon.com/ROCKSOUL-RSGM-32K3G-Widescreen-Adjustable-Resolution/dp/B07F4Q5BX5 MSI Optix MPG27CQ https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Non-Glare-SteelSeries-Optix-MPG27CQ/dp/B07C41W83V Monoprice 27in Zero-G Gaming Monitor https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=38576 Monoprice 32in Zero-G Gaming Monitor https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=33821 Monoprice 35in Zero-G Gaming Monitor (Maybe?) https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=38035 Edit: I was also looking at this dell Monitor too, that orbitalbuzzsaw had posted. 5. The way I have my system set up is massive games such as ARK Survial Evolved, and Single Player Games are stored on my 4TB WD Black. However games that I am currently playing go onto my 1TB SSD and part of my 256GB NVMe Drive.
  6. So some features of Windows 10 Pro are taken from the server operating system and/or have always been PRO features. For example Remote Desktop has always been on windows PRO versions of the OS. There is also Windows Storage Spaces which I use for my home server. The whole point of Server/Business grade software vs. consumer grade is one that is very easy. Business grade is built for two main reasons Longevity and Support. Some would be quick to point out wait isn't longevity and support the same thing? Well no. Professional software has the price tag it does because of the features it has. These same features are always going to improve and grow with the product's lifespan. However support is where lots of software companies make their money. For this lets take a look at RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux). Linux is open source and is often free because of the nature of the community. However RHEL offers their services at a price. For example they can charge several hundreds to thousands of dollars for support and that is different levels of support. But going back to your issues. I would ditch the Server OS, and get Windows 10 Pro, or get CENTOS. (I suggest CENTOS because it is the community versions of RHEL. With my home server I use TeamViewer to remotely access it. Windows 10 already offers the option to create a VPN. Also Linus Did a video on this already. See Here Does $1000 Windows Preform Better???
  7. What is the current partition style, is it MBR or GPT? Also GPT is better for larger capacity drives 2TB or higher. For a 750GB it is not needed. However if you went from Windows 7 to windows 10, like I did with my laptop, the partition table stays the same. One thing you could try is to reload windows 10 onto another Drive to see if it takes a GPT style of table. Also there is a software called Mini-Partition Wizard that is very helpful with this type of issue.
  8. Unfortunately back with the release of both the Sandy Bridge and the IVY Bridge, UEFI/EFI were infants. It is entirely possible your Laptop has UEFI/EFI and you dont know it. For example my laptop an HP Elitebook 8460p, uses UEFI. However other machines of the same era such as Lenovo E350 still uses a BIOS style but it is indeed UEFI. Again that time period was and is a nightmare. Case in point, I have an Intel Brand Board (desktop) of the Q77 Chipset it offers the user the option to switch from BIOS to a Visual BIOS. The Board uses UEFI, (after updating the newest version of the BIOS). Why do you want UEFI? Both BIOS and UEFI offer, for the most part, the same thing.
  9. I was thinking about something like that but how is it with Plex encoding? I actually got a message when streaming plex that It could not handle the encoding process due to hardware limitations with my A10.
  10. The parts are not even worth 100 dollars. I can get that motherboard directly from Gigabyte (refurbished) with a warranty for something like 35 USD. The CPU is First Gen FX series AM3/AM3+ so like 30-ish USD for the cpu on ebay. A single 8GB DDR3 Memory module used on ebay sold for 25.00 So If I were buying the components I would offer something like 30 dollars. I would say keep it as a backup system or try to use it for something, like a game server host machine, or file server or something. I know it may be hard hearing that the components you saved for and bough are not worth a lot and I am sorry about that. I have been doing pricing for used computer components and systems for at least 4 years. I also managed my employer's online sales department pricing and selling similar items on ebay and amazon. I was also the first person asked to evaluated computer system based on what they had in them. I have seen my fair share of systems both some we purchased and others we did not. The other thing that you could do is see if a local college or school would be interested in such as machine for educating students.
  11. I had specc'd the build out due to price. Also for energy consumption. I am also not sold on any single Operating system. So I am trying to keep my mind open. I did have a RAID card but it dided. I also have server components, such as a Intel Xeon but I dont have a board that supports ECC and the board that works with the Xeon only has 5 SATA ports. So it limits the number of drives. Again I am still debating and thinking of what I want to do. Thank you for your input.
  12. So I have been thinking about rebuilding my Home server/NAS system. Currently it is an AMD A10-5800K with 20GB of RAM, and 10TB of Storage in windows Storage Space. I was thinking about going FreeNAS and upgrading to a new Ryzen 3 or 5 with Vega. I am looking for recommendations for a build. This is my idea of the rebuild but any ideas would be great. I plan on getting a RAID card or HBA card of some sort so please recommend something that would work with Windows, FreeBSD, and CentOS.
  13. Can you attach the BSOD mini dump? If so I can take a stab at breaking it down for you.
  14. My speakers are Self Powered. This is heading in the right direction but my speakers only use 3.5mm jacks for each channel. So I would have to rule this out. Or is there a way to combine all the channels into a single UBER 3.5mm jack or something (not optical or digital because speaker set does not have that option) You are 100% correct. When I have my speakers plugged in, all of my audio ports but my TOSLINK is used.
