  1. Same. I have the same feeling towards the Flash tv series. Everything is just so hack-y and convenient and then they just glue together a bunch of random tech components and voila.
  2. This is hilarious. They literally just stuck a light in the fan slot and a drawn on piece of acrylic on the cpu contact. There's an episode of the limitless series where main female detective character places a psu on a table and says "We managed to salvage the hard drives"
  3. Found the psu datasheet. It states that it is 70% efficient at a max load of 236W, and has a MTBF of 100,000 hours at max load at 25C ambient. So assuming that the PSU is 10 years old, and been used since then, there should be about a year of use left at 100% load. JK I won't use it for that long
  4. Had two second hands lined up but the one seller never got back to me and the other was actually selling a faulty unit. Thanks for the advice. I'm really just trying to find out how long I have to get a different PSU As for the model, took a look at the box and it appears to be an "Unplugged" version.
  5. The exact model gtx 950 I have is actually supposed to have a 6 pin power connector (as seen in product images and review videos). The psu is a sparkle power unit
  6. Hey So I recently got my hands on a Galax gtx 950 sniper OC edition which I've put into my secondary pc that has a i5-4590 in an h81m Asus board with 2x4GB ddr3 RAM. The issue is that it has a standard 250W PSU but everything seems to run ok. Before running everything I plugged all the components into a PSU calculator, it came in at 253W. Here's the strange part, the gtx 950 I got should have a 6 pin power connector, but it doesn't and the whole system works. This means that the gpu pulls 75W instead of 90W. Just to be "safe" I used afterburner and turned down the power limit and clock speed to the lowest it allowed me to (-10% and -100Mhz), and used the OSD to monitor power usage of the components. The gpu power hovers around 84% and cpu doesn't go above 60W when playing Fortnite on 1080p Low. I don't plan on using the 250W for very long and my wife only plays for about an hour max. Just wanted to share my findings and hear any opinions. I'm completely open to criticism and advice on psu upgrades (in terms of brands and pricing).
  7. Did a quick google search. Seems like that CPU heatsink has a small fan in the middle (see image, also YT vid shows fan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Rv1JUkQAm4). As everyone else has been recommending. Get an exhaust fan. What you could do is put the front intake fan in the rear but that would reduce fresh air to your GPU. Alternatively leave your side panel off and let a small desk fan blow into the chassis. Honestly surprised to see a 1060 run on a 250W. I'm curious to see for how long. I recently got a gtx 950 running on a 250W PSU (no 6 pin connector on either). I used MSI Afterburner to lower the GPU power limit and also underclock it a bit (for safety reasons).
  8. I think the windows reinstall will make me keep the 3570. I don't wanna hassle with drivers that weren't properly uninstalled/installed
  9. I am in the midst of cleaning both systems Mine was due for a clean, and the SFF one is slightly dirty and I don't wanna sell it like that. When I clean I remove all components, etc (try to get as close to a tech yes clean I can)
  10. I bought a second hand SFF PC that came with an i5 4590 paired with the ASUS H87M-E motherboard. My main PC has i5 3570 and an Intel DQ77MK motherboard. I understand what I'm sacrificing regarding motherboard IO. I don't however know the nuances of each motherboard other than that the ASUS board as an 8 pin CPU power connector as opposed to the 4 pin on the Intel board. As far as the CPU performance. I can't decide which is best for me to keep. I couldn't find sufficient benchmarking results and I frankly don't see myself going to the process of benchmarking games (Maybe I should). I want to resell the SFF system but cannot decide on what to keep in my PC, which is why I turn to the Forum for guidance. P.S. I don't plan to linger long on my decision an I am only leaning toward the 4590 because it is newer
  11. I've recently got internet installed and I'm temporarily using an old modem and slightly less old trendnet router. My Question is: Is there anyway for me to limit the download/upload speeds to specific devices using the Router (model in title). I'm using it for gaming and schoolwork and do not wanna be hindered when someone decides to start watching Netflix etc. Thanks in advanced
  12. I'm going to wait and see if it's supported, right now I'm only using the device for study notes and it has Office apps pre-installed. It just bums me out that the available apps aren't that great and support for them are dying (if not already dead) I hope that it runs on the processor. But if not there are work arounds but it might not be worth the hassle
  13. I left out a major point. I've been searching and it seems like it won't work. The tablet model I have has a ARM processor, and it has a different architecture to what regular windows 8/8.1 runs on. This means that regular desktop apps won't work without an emulator which would be fine, but the Windows RT 8.1 app store has so little apps, and I think there is no longer support for it. There is also a Windows 10 version called the IoT Core version which can run on Raspberry Pi's but it disables the touchscreen.
  14. So I just got a Samsung Ativ GT-P8510 (second hand) for my studies (#studentbudget) and I noticed I cannot get a lot of applications due to the restrictions on Windows RT 8.1. It only allows app installations from the windows store which doesn't have any of the essential apps, such as: Google Chrome; Firefox, Adobe Reader, etc. Can anyone here advise whether or not Windows 10 will work on it or not. I don't want to mess around without being sure.
