  1. Finding this just saved me from the exact same issue. Same card with gen3 riser in SSUPD case.
  2. Thanks for the input. I looked at Ryzen. Initially I was going to do a Ryzen build but after 13th gen came out for Intel it looked like $/performance Intel won out in the end this time. I should have put more than "daily driver" as I do tend to put a LOT of general purpose workload on my system most days. I work remote 3/5 days and use my system as an RDP client and do things on it in the background. I usually have way too many browsers/tabs, VS Code sessions, zoom meetings, and other productivity tools running. Occasionally I'll run a VM or two as well as a WSL instance....or two. In the end, the additional cores and efficiency cores seem to be the better bang for buck for me, but I'm open to anything that would point the other direction. As to cost savings...if I'm matching chip to chip they don't seem that far apart...but what Ryzen would you suggest putting up against the i5-13600? The further I dig in the more I'm looking at the i5-13600. One of my goals is a smaller build. I probably won't go tiny, but I've got this wierd mindset at the moment... If I can't carry my old DDR4 forward...I want to buy DDR5...so hopefully I can carry IT forward someday. If I'm buying DDR5...I don't really need 4 memory slots as capacities are larger...so...ITX board. Might do an mATX case anyways if I find one I like. As for 40 vs. 30 series. I intend to hold the GPU as long as possible as well...especially at these prices. I had a GTS 450 FAR longer than was proper.... Technically I could keep on my 1070 for a bit yet. It gets the job done. I would like fewer glitches and better FPS in Warzone. (damn 1070 ran WZ1 better OVERCLOCKED!...I think it's getting tired though) Mostly I buy newest (but not top of line) so I can carry forward. Typically I don't do full rig reboots.... It's GPU one cycle, then CPU/RAM/MOBO...maybe case, PSU if there's a reason on another cycle. With the pandemic and shortages I missed my GPU cycle and I really don't think I'll be holding out for the 50 series. DDR5: Got that impression! Good to note though...thanks! the i5-13400 drops a LOT in performance, speed, and cores from my initial target. I do actually do a LOT on my system and I'm pretty demanding of my hardware. Not to mention I'm avoiding 'f' skus on purpose. Onboard video is great for both emergency diagnostics, and video encoding/decoding with hardware codecs that don't come on the F models. Looking at the B series...especially if I buy a non-k CPU. I don't think I'll actually see much difference with the two boards I'm looking at...and that's sad for that z790...it should be the more powerful board. My reasoning on DDR5 is somewhat above, but mostly if my DDR4 is too old, I'm looking to DDR5 I can carry forward into my next build. It may cost me more now, but save me on my next upgrade. 1kW PSU. I'll re-evaluate once I nail down my build a bit more. One video I saw suggested total W * 1.5 + 100W (nVidia tax for card boost). If you've seen other calculations I'd GLADLY drop to an 850! I do plan on getting a PCIE5 one again for future proofing...but that's also why I'm still debating a 1k. Thanks EVERYONE! for some great advice! I'm still waiting a bit to see if they launch a non-ti 4070. Then my GPU choice will depend on 2k FPS we see coming out of it. Looking at trends it seems price drops seem to maybe hit about the end of February....so I'll keep watching for deals and tweaking. Open to case recomendations too, but I do like to see my build/RGBz via window...so case needs other airflow than the side pannel.
  3. Budget (including currency): 2000 (or as low as I can get it) Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Warzone 2, Overwatch 2 ...maybe Cyberpunk 20770? (1440p/144hz). Also daily driver pc for everything. Would like to be able to stream. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Coming from: Case: Corsair C70 Mobo: ASUS Z270F Gaming CPU: Intel I7-7700k RAM: 4x8GB (32GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2132 (1066MHz) GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1070 Building: Case: Mini-ITX or MicroATX. Looking at Jonsbo D30/D31? I really like the Cougar Dust2's looks, but have other issues with that case MoBo: ASUS B760 or ASRock z790 ITX/mATX boards running DDR5 - OR ANY RECOMENDATION HERE...willing to look at 600-series if it won't have performance issues - This seems to be where I can try and save *SOME* money...? CPU: Intel i7-13700k or 13700. NO 'f' skus, or i5-13600(k) RAM: 2x16GB (32GB) RAM kit - Probably G.Skill or Corsair. I think I need to match speed w/ the motherboard's recomendations. GPU: ...eventually either a RTX 4070 or 4070 ti. Waiting to see pricing/performance of non-ti 4070s. Some potential parts lists: Opt1: i7-13700k + ASRock z790m-ITX WiFi (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6Fdgfv) Opt2: i5-13600k + ASUS ROG Strix B760-I (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vkdgfv) Opt3: i7-13700K + ASUS ROG Strix B760-I (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NGcmzf) ASUS B760 vs the ASRock z790. The z790 sounds better on paper but there's a number of complaints about ASRock's CPU power system being underpowered on a K CPU. That said...it's 7+1+1, and ASUS's B760 is only 8+1 so I'm not sure there's actually much change here. Also, for the best pricing/performance....The i7+ASRock (opt1) has some good discounts...if I'm willing to drive about 3.5hrs (7hr round trip) to a microcenter. I can get the i7 for $379 + a $20 discount if I get a motherboard with it (the ASRock....they don't have the ASUS board). That's about a $62 savings, but I'd quickly eat it in gas...although I can come up with other good reasons to drive to KC. I kinda feel like I have to go with the i5 if I don't make the trip I have a 4k 60hz (productivity) and a 2k 144hz (gaming) monitor...I want to be able to push better framerates on that 2k when gaming and get into Win11 CPU compliance. I tend to hold systems quite a while so looking to be on new hardware unless there's a compelling reason not to right now.
  4. Dropping in today to get some feedback. I'm running a 2012 system sporting an i7 3770. (Specs in sig). This old workhorse has been running my everything for a long time. I finally started seeing some lag so I bought a server and started moving my 24x7 services to that, freeing up my rig. I'm finding that it wasn't enough though and I think she's just showing her age. It's been running great, doing everything from browsing, to programming, to gaming...CS:GO to PUBG & Overwatch at 4k....kinda. Recently I've been noticing a lot of stuttering and lag in PUBG (go figure). This fixed a lot of my stuttering issues, but then I tried to stream. Big mistake. She just can't hack it as a single game/stream rig. CPU gets PEGGED and PUBG lags like no other. I'm a pretty high-tech person, but I do rock a budget as a Husband and Father....my hobbies take a backseat, so I'm always eyeing to get the best prices. I do, however, like to buy future-proof items where I can. I'm willing to pay for quality and longevity. Note my rig last rebuilt in 2012 (GPU added later...coming up from a GTS 450!). I've been reading conflicting information on the direction of RAM and Flash prices, and I'm seeing deals right now on Ryzen Gen3 CPU + x570 combos and I'm wondering if NOW is the time, or if Black Friday will bring better deals....or if I could even hold off until next year sometime. Mostly I'll be looking for a new Motherboard, CPU, and RAM...and any other required upgrades. Not sure if my 2012 CPU AIO will fit an AM4...or if it's wise to keep running it.... Might like to spring for an NVMe SSD.... Case, GPU, Power Supply and all peripherals will remain as-is for now. Also...like all good PCMR's I like my RGBezzzzzz.... So... Following that I have an ASUS ROG Strix GPU, I'd like to pair that with an ASUS motherboard and possibly AURA compatible RAM. Assuming ASUS's software doesn't nearly kill my PC again. (story for another time). I've liked my ASRock, but I'm hearing they're not as good? Haven't had ASUS in YEARS before buying the 1070 and used to have tons of issues and support sucked. Hoping that's better now. Haven't had AMD in years either...so this will be a shift for me.
  5. I've been working on an Arduino controlled DIY solution for a while now. It's basically working but I'm stuck on the UI I want to create for it. Sadly, modern web frontend tech & responsive design is not my strong suit. Anyone interested in this project and is good with web UI please let me know. I know what I want to do with it; I'm just stuck on the last 25% or so.
