  1. Thank you for the update! I totally forgot to come back here and check this thread. I appreciate your responses, I'll totally be able to widen the search for a new case for her now. Thank you to you as well. I'll see about getting her a decent looking case with good airflow and I/O that isn't in an awkward configuration.
  2. Makes me a little more comfortable buying a case with a 170mm clearance ngl, good reply
  3. I'm building a new rig!

  4. Hey guys, I have a 7700K system currently paired with an NH-D15. In a month or two, I'm upgrading to a 12600K system that I've slowly been building up, but I'm in a bit of a pickle. This 7700K system is being handed down to my fiancé as a small upgrade from her current system, and I'd like to make the transfer of hardware as simple as possible, which means I'd like to keep the NH-D15 attached to the board. Only issue is, I need a hand finding a case that can fit it. Ideally, it needs to be on dual fan mode and also clear a kit of G.Skill Ripjaws V. Dual fan mode makes the CPU cooler height about 175mm. What cases can you guys recommend that could fit that? Ideally we're looking for a mid-tower but anything a little bigger is fine. I originally planned to get her a Fractal Design Pop Air XL but the way the front I/O is configured will be awkward to use based on where the PC will sit. Would a case like the Corsair 4000D or 5000D fit it in the dual fan configuration? It does say 170mm clearance but I'm always skeptical, people have been able to fit things where they can't usually fit before.
  5. None of the PC part suppliers near me have any non-RGB Corsair fans as far as I’ve seen. I’ll keep looking for stock regardless Sweet, sounds like it’ll work. I’m definitely keen on keeping the build consistent, though. It’s mostly MSI and Corsair and looks nice that way. MSI Z170, 1060 6GB, 650W PSU; Corsair case, RAM, case fans, etc… only thing that sticks out is the be quiet! cooler lol
  6. Would there be any issues running RGB fans on older motherboards? I have a rig aside with a Z170 (that very likely doesn’t support RGB fans) that really needs a pair of case fans at the front. Would RGB fans run just fine even if the motherboard doesn’t support RGB? I assume that the RGB bit just wouldn’t receive power? I just need to know before I commit to spending money on an unknown. I’m looking at getting 140mm Corsair fans to match the exhaust but the only options I can actually find are RGB.
  7. Current rig update...

  8. I pulled everything apart and the specific PSU in the PC has a 24-pin that splits into two different connectors for the PSU end of the cable. So there unfortunately was no other way to plug it in. I ended up doing this. This was the way to go. Got the sucker in and it clicked. God, I hate that cable.
  9. I'll give that a go as well. I'm going to need to check the cable orientation from the PSU anyway so I'll benefit from just removing everything from the system and rebuilding it entirely, as much as a pain that is.
  10. Fantastic question. I haven't had time to check as I've been at work today but I'll give it a look. This may be the issue, though if I recall correctly, the 24-pin did seat 100% properly in the H270 chipset motherboard I removed from the system.
  11. Yep. It's that issue again. I had a 6600K laying around so I decided to put together a machine for my fiancé. Snagged a Z170 for it. The ATX 24-pin cable will *not* seat into the port, no matter what is tried. The combination of parts is an MSI KRAIT GAMING Z170 and an MSI MPG A650GF 650W PSU. There's a space about 1-2mm between the top of the port and the meat of the connector. Any idea on how to get it to seat properly? I've tried everything. It just gets stuck at the same point. The connector is still seated evenly but is loose and wiggles a lot. The plastic locking pin is still in the unseated position. I'm also pretty sure there isn't anything inside the port that shouldn't be there.
  12. i5-6600K, and perhaps ah yeah so i should be cool getting another kit of DDR4-3000?
  13. What's the deal with running two 2x8GB Dual-Channel DIMM kits together? Same exact company, same DDR, same speed. Is it worth it or is it worth investing in a 4x8GB kit of Quad-Channel DIMMs?
  14. Hey, More queries regarding storage devices, this time in regards to m.2 drives: What are your thoughts on the Intel 660p Series? Is it actually worth that low price point? I've been told to avoid it due to "QLC" (forgive me for not knowing what that is, it's been a couple years since I've been mad about learning more on tech, lol) Do you have any suggestions regarding m.2 drives? Is it worth going as high as 512gb or 1tb, opposed to 256gb? EDIT: forgot to mention, the idea is, as usual, use will be for OS and startup, with the addition of utilising the quick reading and writing speeds for graphic design and video editing programs.
