  1. Thanks for the replies guys. I got it to work by setting up a VLAN, now I just need to figure out the monthly limit set up. I've set up CaptivePortal with freeRADIUS and it seems to be working somewhat, it asks for login but it doesn't seem to stop traffic when the limit is passed. I tried testing it by setting a 5 MB limit for myself but it doesn't stop me from using more. I read that there is a bug with the traffic limiting, but it only says that for pfSense version 2.0.x whereas I have 2.2.4, does anyone know if this is still an issue?
  2. Hi all, I'm trying to set up pfSense on a HP t5740 Thin Client to manage monthly internet usage limits between three people, but I'm having some trouble. Firstly the thin client doesn't recognize an ethernet PCI-E card so I only have one interface. Will it be possible to set it up using only one interface, and can someone guide me? If there is no way to do this then my next option would be to set up pfSense on a virtual machine on another PC that is currently a file server. My hopes with this is that I can set up virtual machine and use one port for the internet connection (WAN) and the second port to connect to my local network for the file internet sharing (LAN). Any thoughts or suggestions on alternative options welcome. Thanks for any help.

  4. Thanks for the reply. We tried different SATA ports and cables, as well as a PATA hard drive and the exact same thing happens. A little more info on the situation. The PC was rebuilt and cleaned in an attempt to fix the issue, new thermal paste as well. The PC does not get warm so I don't think it's an overheating issue.
  5. Hi, I'm trying to help someone with an issue with their PC. It keeps shutting off just as it starts loading windows. We've already tried different hard drives and a different power supply. The power supply used is a 450watt and we tested with a 250watt (using a PSU calculator website it said the recommended is 238watt). We've tried every possible config with the RAM (single stick, dual stick, each stick in different slots). We've tried running MemTest86+ and it showed zero errors. Also trying to install windows on a different hard drive causes the PC too shut down as soon as it starts installing. I'm trying to help them over Skype, and they don't have any extra equipment to swap out and test. I'm not to sure about the exact specs, but it's an AMD AM2+ CPU and motherboard, 2x 2GB DDR2-6400. The problem started randomly after the case was moved slightly. We've had previous issues where the PC might not POST but playing around with the RAM sticks fixed it. The Motherboard also had a problem with the 24-pin connector where it won't start the PC up at all sometimes. I suspect it's the motherboard but was hoping there might be other things we can do as replacing anything would be a last resort (due to lack of budget). Can anyone help with this issue? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hi, I tried searching for the solution to this but can't find much to reassure me that it will work. I need to convert the HDMI output from an HDMI switch to a projector that only accepts VGA. I need the switch because I want 4 devices to output to the projector. So my question is will the devices below together help me achieve this? HDMI Switch HDMI to VGA Converter Apparently the converter has a built in digital to analog converter, that's why I think it should work even though the HDMI doesn't come from a PC. Thanks for any help.
  7. I just tried it and it works. Thanks for the help. For anyone who wants more info: A normal phone charger gives a constant 5v, the power supply I'm using gives a constant 5.3v (which I guess is a standard). I did some research and the normal voltages for USB is between 4.75v and 5.25v, but up to 5.5v is acceptable. My concern was mostly that the phone or whatever device needs a data connection to be able to charge. My Lumia 920 will charge without the data connection luckily, and it charges much faster than any charger I've used before. ---EDIT--- Just a quick update, this doesn't work for charging an IPhone (probably IPad and IPod as well) unfortunately. Apparently it needs the data connection to be able to charge, but everything else seems to work.
  8. That's what I thought, I just want to make sure so I don't blow anything. So I can just connect a USB cable directly to the red wire and it should work? I'm mostly going to use it for about two devices. I don't have such a device to measure.
  9. I've got an old 300w power supply that I want to use to power a few things. I can figure everything out myself except for one thing. I want to use the 5v wires for charging my phone using a USB cable. I know that USB is rated at 500mA, but on the power supply it is stated +5v 30.0A on red wire and +5v 2.0A on purple wire. Usually I'd use the red wire for 5v devices, but since the Amp rating is so high can I use the purple wire instead? I also thought a safer alternative is getting like a 12v USB charger that I can just connect to the yellow wire (+12v) so I don't have to worry about the Amp ratings. Can anyone tell me if connecting the terminals directly to a USB cable would work or if I should rather go for the charger alternative?
  10. Looks like you typed that in a rush lol. It needs a little spell check. Can't wait to see more.
  11. I recently got the 120M, I had to choose between these two but I found more negative feedback about the 120v then the 120m. So from what I know if you can rather go for the 120m, it has a little more performance and a little more expensive, but from what I found it's worth it. As for installation, I think it's pretty much the same for both. Just four screws to the back plate.
  12. You'd think a post about something in South Africa would get more responses from people in South Africa  Anyways, I was so excited about this game but I should have known EA would mess something up. Sadly it only affects us. I didn't even get to try the beta because I could only redeem my key on the last day.
  13. That's what I'm worrying about. I don't want to remove a stick. I'll have a look at that one. It's a little lower than the 612, but slightly. It's also narrower which might help. Nice review BTW. I'm currently trying to decide what I want to get. The only problems I have with water cooling is that the radiators are all 120mm and my case has 140mm fans at the back. I also can't use top mounting because I have 2x 200mm fans on top. I don't mind taking out the 140mm but I'm just trying to avoid it. The other thing bothering me is weight. My case is already kind of heavy and difficult to carry 'cause of it's size, and correct me if I'm wrong, water cooling adds quiet a lot more weight than an air cooler would. Thanks for all the quick replies.
