770 is definitely better than 660. But for you, I will repeat what everyone else is saying: Get the R9 390x.

It's not the best, but I use it in my build and it runs just fine. In fact, I would say it is one of the best entry level CPUs on the market. -
You might be able to get away with putting the CPU cooler on without the retention arm, but it depends on the cooler. I would put the CPU and cooler on outside the case and then shake it and rotate the motherboard to make sure it stays put. But you should make buying a new motherboard a priority.
