  1. Already looking for one, but for now ill use the hdd.
  2. I've never used linux, but would it be a problem? its a pc used primarily for watching movies and videos. there would be nothing else in it. and I haven't even figured out whether or not the internet works (It doesnt have wifi, and I seem to have misplaced all my ethernet cables)
  3. Hiya everyone, I have here a conundrum, I have an old Sony Vaio laptop running an Intel dual-core processor from the Merom architecture (yes that old). It has 2Gb of DDR2 RAM (again that old) and a 200Gb HDD. It still runs well, and I plan to turn it into a Media PC (mainly to play movies & music, and maybe Youtube if it can connect to the net). Currently, it still runs Windows Vista and my question is "can it support Windows 10 or should I install Windows 7 or 8 instead?" I'm already in the process of doing some much needed maintenance (thermal paste & HDD replacement and dust removal) to get some extra use out of it. Any tips and advice will be appreciated and thank you in advance.
  4. Thank you for your replies. Tried them, and every other trick in the book. But still nothing. I think one of the Nand chip is dead or shorted-out. Which would explain why the capacity was cut nicely in half. fixing it is a hassle, so i decided to just use it as is.
  5. Alright, here's a conundrum. I have a 128gb msata ssd I salvaged from an old laptop that was beyond repair (a whole other story). That laptop had an msata drive that no longer had any valuable data on it. So I wanted to use it as an external ssd for extra storage (bought an msata enclosure/adaptor). I tried to wipe out the partitions that it had (the os etc), there was an error (something about a corrupted partition table) and boom, the ssd was wiped. but now I can only see 60gb of the full volume. I tried checking disk management to see if there was an unallocated partition etc, but i could only see the 60gb space and nothing else. checked the properties etc, all seem to say that the drive only has 60gb. Need help. Thank you ? ps: I can use the visible 60gb just fine
  6. I figured that was the case. And I guess using it as a passive cooler for the 6500 isn't viable.
  7. Hi all, Here's my issue. I already have a Phanteks PH-TC12LS cooler from a previous build. However, I'm thinking of shrinking that build into the FD Node 202 but still intend to use the Phanteks cooler. Is it possible to mount a slim 120mm fan beneath the fins instead of on top of it using clips etc? If so, how do I go about doing it and is it a good idea? Thank you.
  8. I have the Zotac GTX 1060 3gb AMP in my Define Nano S and I was thinking of cleaning up the build a bit, with a backplate for the GPU. Should I find a backplate from previous Zotac gpus with similar layout or go for a custom diy backplate (plexiglass)? Thank you
  9. It fits, depending on how you orient the cooler. In the picture the heat pipes are facing the back of the case and since the contact plate isn't centered with the heatsink it is longer on the heatpipe side and blocks the rear fan.
  10. I'll try it and update the results, Thank you.
  11. Yes, I have, no change. It still disconnects randomly. But I have found that I didn't need to restart my laptop/router to reconnect as long as I switch back and forth between static and auto ip
  12. But I never have a problem connecting to other wifi connections, I can even connect to mcd's or my local library's wifi without it disconnecting itself.
  13. My apologies if the title is a bit odd. Ok, I'm faced with odd situation, my laptop's wifi seems to hate my home wifi router. My Acer Aspire V5-473PG laptop frequently disconnects from my home wifi and refuses to reconnect unless I restart the router or the laptop itself. I have diagnosed that it's not a problem with my router, as all other devices in my home are able to connect to it without a problem. I don't think it's my laptop network card either, as it can connect to any other wifi connections (both public and private) without any issues. The problem seem to be limited to this specific laptop and wifi router. Any Ideas?
  14. The cheapest option would be using USB wifi dongle. As I already have one from my old laptop. It's a D-Link DWA-127 150Mbps USB dongle with anthena, it worked fine for a bit, till the laptop died.
  15. I'm a bit more that 5 meters away from my router with a wall in between my pc desk and the router, (it's in the next room across the hallway). However, I usually get full/almost full signal throughout most the house with my laptop/phone.
