I got a msi gt780r laptop for the same reason as you and after 3 years it was obsolete because it couldn't play most games and inside the left side of the screen the plastic around the screw broke which makes it really difficult to open it and close it without completely destroying the screen and also the touchpad stopped working. I tried to fix it with epoxy but there was too much pressure and it immediately broke. I did not send it for repair because I refuse to give more $ to MSI. I paid around 2000$ for this laptop. Laptops are a lot more expensive and less powerful than desktops and good luck upgrading the components. Maybe If you are at one home more often then put your desktop there and when you are at the other home just use a cheap laptop.
