Was wanting to use the Ubiquiti dome cameras and maybe an NVR or just use my synology NAS.
Ubiquiti has a list of ports the cameras require. Is it possible to open only the required ports on a single Ethernet port on a switch?

On a managed switch it is totally doable. You could lock the traffic to mac addresses AND flow (what TCP/UDP ports). Still hackable? yes. But it will keep out the casuals.

No brand, it's a generic one off ebay

    Alright then,

Open the Device Manager and in the properties of the device you need drivers for open up the "Details" tab. Change the "Property" box to "Hardware Ids" and post the strings on here. This is what will tell us what hardware ID string Windows sees and help you find the maker/model/revision of it.

I've included a picture to reference below.

Right click on the strings, choose "select all" and right click on the selection again and choose "copy". You can now paste all the strings in your reply and we should be able to find who made that device pretty quickly.

  3. It really depends what type of stream the cameras have - if the footage is UDP transport (one way only) it may just work, but I would check on that first. It seems very simple to buy a managed switch (Cisco, Juniper, etc) and only accept the traffic you want from the cameras on the network. I'd probably get myself a cheap Catalyst Cisco 100MB switch and go from there on Ebay.

What the hell kind of quote does OP need, "Buy monitor, it so much bigger than my tiny Japanese monitor". I realize there could be a use for quotes sometimes, but this is a case of the obvious benefits being stated in the title. I think the ability to use Freesync over the HDMI port is the point.

    Thank you.

Sometimes I feel the rules are too far reaching for no reason.

Awesome, I might give that a shot then!  I already ordered 2 x x520-DA1s and a direct attach copper cable.  I'll play around with my options when they come in :)

Feel free to use Nekodrive if you can't get the native Microsoft driver.

Yes the principal is the same. Install a 10Gb network card in the unRAID server and desktop then configure the networking. Be aware though that it is unlikely to give you the full 10Gb speed coping files on a network share hosted on unRAID to/from Windows currently. There are some features of SMB3 not yet implemented in SAMBA which is what unRAID uses to create network shares, but this is about to be updated soon.

You will most definitely get a huge speed boost though so if you are wanting to do this and are able to do it cheaply then sure go ahead, you won't be disappointed.

NFS works fine if  you can use that. There is an NFS client in Windows 7 if you want SPEED

  8. No need for display port? interesting.

I think it should only be a short time for TVs to get it as well! This is GREAT news. Now you can possibly game to a wall mounted monitor failry far compared with what you can do with display port. This will be a great addition to all media centers who need to eliminate video tearing. Now if only we could get it at hig refresh rates and bigger (50 inches+)

All of Samsung’s new curved monitors include a host of features that further reduce reflectance and visual fatigue, enabling users to view their screens for longer periods. The CF591 and CF390 displays leverage Samsung’s flicker-free technology to prevent interruptions that can strain users’ eyes. A complementary Eye Saver Mode setting further protects audiences from exposure to harmful blue light emissions. To benefit gamers and at-home entertainment users, all three displays include embedded AMD FreeSyncTechnology over HDMI® functionality that synchronizes screen refresh rates with users’ AMD graphics cards to reduce input latency, stutter and lag when viewing interactive video content.

  9. Your pinout is likely to be wrong if the 4 pairs are fine.

    rj45.gif

Notice how it's ALWAYS white/color before color (i.e. White/Orange then Orange) EXEPT for the 2 in the middle which are Blue first and white/blue second. Please check your pinout and fix it accordingly.

  10. Make sure your adapter is in 1000Base-T or Auto mode.

Make sure you are using a Cat5E cable or greater that has all 8 connectors wired - if you miss one it won't work.

Get a different cable first, then check your drivers second.
