  1. I'm checking out this great ikea desk that has a crank to lower and raise it. The issue is, its not quite long enough for my taste, and the ugly white table top. I want to replace the table top with some wood top, but the added weight is brinign me past the comfort zone for the max weight of the desk. So if I do this build, the three 27" monitors will need to go on the wall. What is the best way to do this? Three separate wall mounts?
  2. Objective. Find an attractive but functional-first case for under $150. Prefer maximum customization. Noise levels are of concern. Dust trap solutions are preferred. A CPU radiator is being used. Mid tower or Full ATX. Bonus points for keeping it as cheap as possible.
  3. Really??? I was sure it would be more complicated than that.. lol. Well then
  4. I think I can det pretty good Lan speeds, but if you are working with 4K over USB 3.0 just fine, I think I would be fine then lol. Which drive do you use? I assume it has a higher RPM?
  5. Tech channel, but I am starting with a series on web development for beginners.
  6. Starting a Youtube Channel, going to need to store a decent amount of footage and data (No redundancy in the budget wish me luck). HDD will be close by on a shelf. I need to Data to be FAST for editing purposes, but I would like it external to keep the noise down when I am not using it. I could add a new HDD to my PC, but then it would always be spinning. I am wondering if USB 3.0 or Ethernet is the way to go. Wondering what you guys will suggest.
  7. Hmm luckily I use an SSD as my main.. maybe I can just disable my secondary HDD and see what happens.
  8. My god. all of these cases are beautiful. God I am scared to go look at the prices now.
  9. I have had an older HAF mid tower case for.. probably 6ish years now. A while back the front fran started to rattle, so I ended up going and getting some "silent" fans and installing those. Well it's just as noisy in the front and I'm pretty sure it's just the case. If I press on the case REALLY HARD in the front, the rattle stops. I'm not really sure what to do about it, but maybe I'd be better off moving to a new case. Currently my PC doesnt get too warm thankfully, but I also dont really know the temps in the summer months. But what would you guys suggest? I dont care much for how the outside of the case looks, as it sits in a little cabinet (unfortunately I have to close the front door because of the noise, but the back is open (sorta ok, still no heat issues).
  10. Decent build. I have to stick with my enclosed water cooled systems though! I just swapped an H60 into that build.
  11. A kid I know has just saved up enough money from his first job to join the master race and asked me to help him build it. He said he had a ~1500 budget, and wants to game and stream. He mostly plays LOL and Call of Duty. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/x2RYyc PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($299.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Corsair H75 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($64.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($102.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($84.99 @ Adorama) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($149.89 @ OutletPC) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 980 4GB Twin Frozr Video Card ($466.39 @ B&H) Case: Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($125.46 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.88 @ Newegg) Total: $1369.57 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-03-17 22:43 EDT-0400
  12. Hey man great video, those are actually fairly bad ass. I only wonder about plastic's ability to build up a static charge.
  13. You made me one right?
  14. Hey guys, BIG Linus Tech Tips fan here. I am planning on creating a higher production value course on web development. I'm going to start with BASIC html, and move up to CSS and Javascript, and then hopefully we start moving into DNS, and setting up a server and all that. The majority of this type of content will obviously be screen recordings, but I want to mix in a healthy amount of camera time to keep it interesting. Here is what I am asking you guys. Some of you are hopefully my target audience, we love the same stuff, we love the linus tech tips show. Don't worry! I'm not selling anything, or promoting a website! Just purely feel like doing this, and it helps me better learn to research in a way so that I would present to others. I am trying to come up with the show structure to make the course as interesting and entertaining as possible while still providing a TON of detail so you really learn what makes everything work. So what would you guys want from a web development course? What will make it fun for you? Is there anything you can think of specifically that you love about Linus's show that maybe I could do similar?
  15. Can anyone help me find the video where linus goes over his thunderbolt set up? skimming through the personal rig videos, I can not find it.
  16. Do you think there is a better/newer solution using USB C? Though it looks as though even mono price, a C to C cable only goes to 6 feet. Oh man, that Oh man, that's awesome. I dont know if I want to give up a PCI slot though. smart though. I may try to find another solution, or just get to know hibernate mode very well. Someone showed me there are devices that transmit USB over ethernet. I dont know if that would be a viable solution or not.
  17. Is that what he's doing on his personal build? The rackmounted one? That's what I'd eventually love to do since I have multiple PCs
  18. I am thinking of making the ultimate geek fantasy/nightmare switch. ...Moving in to the parent's basement. At 22, I still live at home, and I do not see that changing incredibly soon unfortunately. So I'm thinking of moving in to the basement which is much larger and will give me the opportunity to change up my setup. The Layout (Not To Scale) That black rectangle would represent the desk, the computer would go in the closet on the left. There are drop ceilings, so I can run HDMI across, and then in to the wall. What I am most worried about is USB. I could probably get away with a wireless mouse and keyboard, but I'd still rather have a USB hub at the desk. What are your thoughts or suggestions about relocating the PC away from the desk?
  19. Hey guys. I have been toying with the idea of building a desk with a computer built in. I have had an idea for a while, but I also have another Lenovo ThinkServer in the house that I would love to also put in the desk if possible (It is also in a normal desktop case). My first thought was to just build everything in a rack server and use the rack server as one of the legs on the desk. However, it seems like they really aren't large enough to house everything you'd want in a desktop PC, nor would it have the correct IO ports and such. I'm not against making my own front panel if I have something to start with (an empty, plain drawer). If I could find large enough blank drawers that I could fit a PC case into? I essentially want big ass metal drawers that can support weight and I could fit a standard PC case into it (I'll make my own cuts and minor welds or what ever is needed).
