  1. Storage is expensive >.< I want to rebuild my plex server as a part of freenas. I'd like 16TB with redundancy... So... That's the plan but that sounds expensive. ....So Linus, how many views you need to be getting before Seagate and Western Digital will throw some TBs at you lol.
  2. I currently work in a chain store doing PC repair, mostly dumb stuff. But, soon I will be moving and won't have a job. Is doing local PC repair even really a viable thing anymore? Anyone here making 500+ a month doing it?
  3. So close. I mean the name is right obviously.
  4. You win! 24. However. Adventure time isnt a kids show? Also MAN if you saw my movies. I basically only watch Pixar XD. Also toooons of batman.
  5. Direct guesses online. Not confirming or denying that age range.
  6. Thought of a fun little forum game here. Here's my Plex server's TV shows. Guess my age. Feel free to join in the game. Small piece of information here. I actually haven't watched most of this. A few of these I generally just watch over and over. WINNER @Phate.exe Post yours below!
  7. Dude WUT. Ugh... Getting into the professional Youtube life and just ordered a 4K camera. Editing isn't going to be fun. Planning on picking up some SSDs when the holidays hit.
  8. I'll leave it up to you to decide what counts as "small", I'd probably consider anything under 100K subs. Tech channels or otherwise, who are some of your favorite smaller Youtubers? How did you find them?
  9. AS OPPOSED to US RETAILORS who ALSO sell foam manufactured in CHINA for much more money. The questions is WHY pay more money. IS there any reason to? In case I have to spell that out.
  10. Ok guys I didnt meant that the foam originated from china, I was more talking about how you can buy it DIRT CHEAP from chinese retailors.
  11. Does the quality and density of the foam matter so much that cheap $1-$2 panels from China are not worth it? Or will a large amount of them still suffice?
  12. I was able to get an absurdly good deal, and that's the only reason I went this way, on top of having a larger sensor than the G7
  13. Just wanted to share with you guys that I'm super stoked to upgrade my Canon T3i to the Sony 6300. My camera has been great to me for about 5 years. It's served as a great camera for my old and now new Youtube channel. But I'm taking Youtube more seriously, and planning new channels in the future so I wanted something a little future proof and a little versatile. It was a close call between it and the Panasonic G7. There's some drawbacks, like no flip out screen (serious, why would I even need to tilt it? Could have given us the flip out?), and the SD card slot is on the bottom of both of them which is a super huge pain. But with the ability to connect your phone or tablet over wifi to use as a monitor and remote, and with the size being manageable enough to transfer over USB, I said why not. I was able to get a very good price that made the price difference seem like much less of an issue and I hope this camera will treat me well, but I am sure it will.
  14. In short, I want to watch plex on my second monitor and through my speakers, and play games through my headphones.
  15. I was trying to get it via the model of the computer. But I can finish the disassembly, I was trying to reserve that for when I have the controller board.
  16. I want to take the LCD out of this old A1278 MacBook and turn it into an external screen. I've seen it done it with other screens but I will need a display driver board and I could use some help identifying the correct one.
  17. It should just work with no issues. Power down the unit and connect the display directly to your motherboard. Use an analog connection like VGA if possible. This should work fine if your GPU worked.
  18. This is actually a question to help me out at work in my IT job. Clients bring me older windows 7 machines all the time that are YEARS behind on updates. One thing I love about Win 10 is you can install the 1603 and 1706 updates right over top the OS and fix a lot of problems, nothing similar exists for Windows 7. For instance I have a client PC with 44 important updates available, some of which being the roll-up updates I would love to install but no matter if I try to install all of the updates, just one, what ever, it always fails. Windows update fix it never works either. Has anyone found a good solution for updating older Win 7 machines that refuse to update?
  19. Hey guys. Loving the discussion. I don't have a ton to add as of yet. I have seen a few people stating I should run games side by side and compare. And I could, and I want to. But. I don't think I'll be able to objectively set the GFX settings to what ever the Xbox equivalent is. @SCHISCHKA I would run GTA side by side, and im sure I can make the PC render further, but I can't be sure that my graphics settings are the same. @TheRandomness They are truly similar, and in fact, consoles are far more reliable and predictable. No messing with drivers on a console. But I just want to show that we CAN achieve a similar experience in size and price with the added benefits of a PC.
  20. Hey guys, I'm also a Youtuber and I bought myself a NICE Small Form Factor desktop HP unit off ebay for $150 (+ $20 shipping) with an i7-2600, 8Gb of RAM, and a 500GB HDD. Because of it's size I noticed it's similar in size to a modern gaming console, maybe slightly larger, I want to get them side by side soon. So I love this computer but I want to make a Youtube video out of it. I'm thinking of adding a GTX1050 low profile which will raise the cost of the build to ~$300, which is still less than an Xbox ONE at the moment. The new Xbox One X has some nice specs... so it probably puts this build down, but I still think there is potential for some video content here. First of all, how do you like that concept? Showing a PC gaming build for the price and size of a console? Next. .... .... How can I best benchmark the systems against each other? I don't need to go crazy overboard, but I thought maybe it would be a good idea to show Forza Horizons on each unit, but I have no clue how I could even compare them at all really. What's the best way to fairly pit them against each other? Or should I not even really try since the difference is just too much and simply talk about WHY I think the PC is the better choice?
  21. :0 Always wondered about this, doesn't the stuff get rained on? I went to a junk yard one but it was all cars. there's a recycling center near by.. maybe there.
  22. Definitely agreeing with you guys a new PSU would be ideal, but since it is SFF, I want to try to stick with it if I can for the sake of keeping it small because I can.
  23. I found a great deal on a PC, or so I think, and I think it might make a half decent Youtube video. Want to help me make the most out of this "Junkyard build"? Cost: $170 (including shipping) HP COMPAQ ELITE SFF 8200 Specs: Processor Type: Intel Core i7 2nd Gen. Processor Speed: 3.40GHz Memory: 8GB DDR3 1333 MHz Hard Drive Capacity: 500GB I was thinking this would make a decent Youtube video for a sub $300 gaming PC. Might not be the cheapest gaming PC on the market but I think it's pretty nice for the price. Definitely, think I can try and give this thing a console look. Definitely going to find a budget SSD that I trust to boot off of only (Keep it cheap for the challenge), and I want to attempt to add a low profile graphics card. I don't really need the disk drive but it's already there and I don't think I can think of anything to put it it's place but maybe some kind of IO panel. What kind of low profile card do you think it would be worth throwing in here? The onboard graphics won't be terrible and I know my options are limited. A new low profile 1060 will double the cost of the computer. This build will probably become my girlfriend's gaming rid when I'm done putting it together and making a video out of it.
