  1. Those adaptors aren't too bad actually. The ones I am not a fan of are those 3 in 2 bays and 4 in 3 as they would ruin the look of the front of the case but those internal ones aren't terrible if not a little untidy. Surely there must be a case out there lol. I did see the cooler master one actually but I think I'd struggle to keep it silent.
  2. With the 900d what is the max 3.5 drives it could take? I know Corsair sell the backplane and cages separately so I could add some in the bottom section as well as in the windowed section. I would try to avoid the 5.25 bays as I don't want the ugly adaptors to show out the front of the case. If that makes sense
  3. Hi all. I've been running a few servers over the years and all has been well but decided on building my own now and in a desktop style tower build as opposed to rack more for noise reduction more than anything else. The case I want has to fit a general criteria though Needs to Support e-atx / ssb form factor Needs to be able to house 8 to 10 x3.5'' drives Needs to have a window or tempered glass Needs to look decent to blend in with desktop pc I am currently using a fractal r5 which I have modded to the 15 drive trays which is excessive but I'm not sure my eatx board will fit. I really like some of the inwin and nzxt cases but lack of spinning disk support again doesn't help My desktop machine currently lives in a Corsair 900d which I could reuse as my server and buy a new atx case for it instead so that's also an option. Just seeing what's out there really =) doesn't need to be new either.
  4. Hi the Ms for your reply. I thought this as well but apparently I can only use the hdmi or Dvi if all Displayport in use but not both Thanks
  5. Hi all looking for some help please as this is proving a bit of a nightmare So My Pc currently has 2x Sapphire R9 390 graphics cards in it. The 8GB Ram Nitro OC ones. Ports wise is at has 3 Displayport, 1 Hdmi and 1 x Dvi on each card. Monitors I have 3x Samsung S27d850t monitors, a Dell 2711 and a Qnix 2710 all have Displayport and hdmi other than the Qnix which is Dvi. All monitors are 1440p With me so far? Cheers. Anyway I want to hook up all 6 at once and its proving a real drama to do this on one card. I could use both cards and disable crossfire but looking to avoid that if possible. So. To hook it all up I have plugged in the Qnix to the Dvi port, 2 Samsungs to the Displayport sockets and one Samsung and the Dell to a dp++ Mst 4 port hub into one of the Displayport sockets and it is serving the dell at 1440p but the only other screen attached to this hub will only max out at 640 x 480 and I can't change it. I am wondering whether I have hit the max bandwidth on the port the hub is attached to? Although it shows same behaviour when I push all screens down to. 1080p. Hdmi port on card is only one free. Is this the only configuration that will. Work there must be a way to get 5 screens on a card like this. The crossfire is less important as let's be honest it's going to play zero games on 6 screens but EyeFinity is important and I believe it doesn't allow one screen to be created out of two different card groups. Thanks all really appreciate your help

  7. Apologies should have mentioned that is a used price not new
  8. I have a HP Proliant ML310e G8 - Xeon 1220 V2 - Takes up to 32GB ram , 4 drive bays with caddies and its mega quiet and the size of a tower PC and you also get ILO. You can get one for about £250 in the UK. Or I will sell you one of mine as I have 5 haha
  9. This is true but the R5 only has 2 x 5.25 bays so the max number of drives you can fir without hotswap is 2 and with the hotswap bays is 3 which isnt really enough. I would prefer the lower cage to give me 8 sleds in total and leave the top for expansion. The other option of course is to consolidate, so sell the 4 x 1s for a 4 and sell 2 lots of 2 for another 2 x 4 that would mean less spinning platters but more eggs in one basket so to speak
  10. That is good to hear about the board. I know that the max throughput at the moment will just need to saturate a GBe line which should be fine I think for iScsi but whatever I decide nic teaming is a must as they have quad Ethernet cards and also a smart switch. Drives wise I think left over I have 4 maybe 5 2TB drives and 4 x 1s , A five and a couple of 8s so a real mixed bag., Whatever I do I plan on pairing them by platter so make a volume of 2s a volumes of 1s etc so the mixing of sizes would be less of an issue I believe. I MIGHT even just put Esxi on it and nest the FreeNas as a virt but not sure how much that will affect performance although does provide scalability Basically the choice i have is cough up nearly £100 for two Hot Swap enclosures in the current servers or build a dedicated NAS that just handles the media traffic, Which although would end up using more power is probably my preffered solution as it will also mean its isolated from Server issues but will need to be mounted to the other ESXi hosts. Hope that makes sense l;ol Hi there, thanks for your reply I am not really that set on OS it just has to conform to what I need it to do, I am quite comfortable with BSD, Linux and Windows so either is fine but I prefer the option of choice so any soluition I simply build a test VM and use that before I decide. Overall, I currently have a Fractal Define R5 case that I can possibly use to house the drives and the motherboard I have lying around but I am missing the lower drive cage which I would need to give me the full 8 drives, And the cost of replacing that is the same price as the whole NZXT case itself or a set of hot swap bays. Ultimately the AMD board and CPU iis a good fit for JBOD type setup as its got 8 sata 3 ports on one controller on the board. I do like raid though so recommendations of a decent but budget / Old Entrerprise raid card is also welcome. I am still at the designing stage so nothing is out the equation cost aside though as its not needing to be OTT I do like the silverstone case but I cant justfify £150 on a case that doesnt fit my MB and needs an ITX and probably an HBA
  11. Hi all. Got a fair amount of drives and servers on the go at the moment basically 2x ml310e g8 hp servers running vms in vmware each have raid 5 with 4 x Wd 3tb on them each and I need more storage Now there is two 5.25 bays at the top I can put a hot swap dock in but am I keen on building a nas to also take care of backups. As I find 50 UK pounds for a small caddy expensive I have a pile of 1tb and 2tb disks I could put in it and use freenas and an iscsi setup to mount to vmware but what sort of mb and cpu power would I need for that? Would performance be decent? Currently got a amd a6 5400 and a gigabyte board with 8 data ports is that strong enough? I am probably going to use the nzxt gamer 210 elite case as suggested in the wiki. But given thay I have I dunno 8 x 2tb and 1tb drives should I sell them and buy less but bigger drives for freenas? All help greatly appreciated
  12. Having looked at pictures of the PCB Online it certainly looks a lot different from other R9 390 cards, My question is if it was the same PCB then surely Alphacool wouldnt have needed to make a custom Waterblock for it at all and they would have just used the reference one?
  13. How sure are you of this, Alphacool are using a specific part for theres and not using the reference one, That would tell me it is not reference
  14. Wow didn't realise it was that expensive lol, One is fine haha. Not sure on GSync I am a red fan but not a massive gamer either tbh
  15. The curved thing isnt all that to be fair, You can get a LG 34UM95 which is an ultrawide 34" 1440 Monitor, Lovely colours and the IPS is clear as day. And its half the price of the curved one, Get two lol
