  1. And thank you very much for the explanations on the different terms, it did help quite a lot in terms of my understanding of how it all works. ?
  2. Hm, okay I’ll look into that! Although considering Windows 2000 and NT are quite old, won’t they be quite a security hazard in that regard, or does it matter at all?
  3. Alright, that's fantastic! Thank you very much for your help! That will be very useful indeed!
  4. Yes, it will predominantly be used for file transfers, backups and some other tasks I could put on it. I doubt I'd transcode anything though, as I mostly just stream whatever I watch, (although maybe I'll look into it in the future). Okay, I don't mind being on the overkill side of things, as then it will last for a good while. So if I add two more drives in the future (going to have two HDD's for now in raid 1 for redundancy), 8GB would still be plenty? Thank you for the information, I'll definitely keep that in mind and perhaps add a GPU for transcoding in the future if I decide to stream movies and such content. I think Windows Server will be a good one for me, as I presume it will be pretty similar in many ways to regular Windows? It would definitely be a nice advantage in that regard. Would you mind explaining what Samba shares, FileZilla, FTP and RDC means? I am sorry but I am completely new to the server and NAS world.
  5. Samba is pretty new to me, is it a form of utility I could use for sharing files?
  6. I see, so even the cheapest CPU would do just fine? What PSU would you recommend in that regard for 24/7 operation?
  7. Thanks for the tip mate! But for me, I'd like to keep it as small as possible, while still having possibilities to expand later down the line!
  8. Hello folks! I am looking into creating my own NAS, for backups of photos, videos and other files. Furthermore, I would like to be able to copy games from the NAS to other computers on the network, as then my friends coming over for LAN-parties won't have to download a gigantic patch (or a whole game for that matter) when we are about to play. P.S. This is meant as a Mini-ITX build, just to mention that. Do you folks have any suggestions for what OS to use and anything else related to getting a basic and simple NAS up and running? My planned specs for the NAS. (Do feel free to come with suggestions to potentially improve it): CPU: Ryzen 2200G MB: MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC, Socket-AM4 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 16GB HDD: 2x WD Red 3TB 3.5" NAS HDD SSD: 1X Samsung 860 EVO 250GB Case: Fractal Design Node 304 Mini-ITX PSU: Open for suggestions, as I am not sure what would be the best for a NAS. Thank you very much for reading the post. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  9. Greetings, I'm looking for feedback and suggestions for what I can do to spice up my rig a little. Currently, I am happy with it's looks, but I'd like to add something to promote the components inside somehow. Any suggestions for improvements? I do know RGB lighting strips exist, of course, but I would prefer something which doesn't make it look like a Christmas at the Griswolds. Cheers.
  10. Just FYI, an SSD does not increase your FPS, or graphical performance, it boosts the loading times and overall performance.
  11. The reason why I would like to have a new SSD is due to the fact that I'm building my PC this summer. I've got quite a few of the components already, but storage is something I still haven't delved into yet. I got an MSATA SSD from Samsung in my MSI GE-70 laptop, which reduced the boot time from 1:30 minutes, to 8 seconds. However, I can't recycle it as no current motherboard supports MSATA. When it comes to why people should invest in an SSD, is simply due to massive system performance increases. As I mentioned, the boot time got dramaticly better when I moved my OS install from the 7200 RPM drive to the SSD. Also, the system overall will perform better. (Not in terms of FPS as the SSD does not effect performance graphically wise) In for example programs such as photoshop, the start up time is reduced quite a bit, and the time you have to wait before owning some noobs in Battlefield get's drastically reduced as well. Also, a bonus for laptop users, the power usage actually get's reduced slightly. As I noticed I gained about 30 minutes more battery life. Anyways, thanks for providing this opportunity Linus! (As well as everyone at LMG)
  12. As the title describes, I'm uncertain wether or not to go for the Carbide 300r or the Graphite 230t, both from Corsair. I've seen that the 300r is raised signifigantly higher from the ground (I'm most likely having the PC on a desk) than the 230T, yet they are both similar othervise. Any suggestions?
  13. Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunatelly, it doesen't look like I'm able to get the Asrock motherboard nor the PowerColor GPU, however I'll consider swapping out the 960 for the 380!
  14. Unfortunatelly, the glorious American prices are not possible here Good rig though!
