also: ecc memory (4gb of 1333mhz is enough for storage needs) so your system runs stable!

EDIT: psu should also be from a reputable manufacturer! not high wattage or anyting but stable as should the motherboard be!

for that many people unless you have a good internet connection (well above 20mbit/s UPstream and low latency, this is what you usually get with a symmetrical internet connection) don't even bother and instead rent some gaming server, they aren't that expensive anymore!
for a storage nas however, depending on your needs, buy the cheapest components that can run raid and invest in HDDs instead of CPUs and GPUs, maybe even a raid card so you can run raid5/ raid6.

fuck. oculus and facebook. fuck, again.

The only good thing is this:

So it lets us hope they first do the oculus-gaming shit like they would've done before but now there will be a hard-not-to-find facebook share button / layover similarly to the steam community layover but with, well, facebook EVERYWHERE. If they don't screw up. If they do, prepare your anuses. For facebook ads. Ingame.

OH GOD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???????
OCULUS WOULD HAVE MADE MORE MONEY THAN THAT IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS!! BY FAR!!! YOU JUST SOLD THE GREATEST THING TO COME IN NEAR FUTURE TO A DATA-WHORE!!
    NOOO!!

I'd try Ubuntu and Debian in a VM first. You can download the image and insert it directly into the vm. If you like it, put it on a partition or a seperate drive in your computer.
If you want to do mac (which I can only recommend), you will definitly need one seperate drive on which you only run mac. Mac on the same drive with windows and / or linux is very very complicated to set up.
I can recommend tonymacx86 as there is a ton of great and easy guides.
But for mac your hardware matters very much.
For linux, installing is simple. Just try with vbox whether you like it or not.

with that high count of bits per sqare-milimeter data probably won't last that long.. and getting these drives to be pressurized with helium over a long time will be pretty expensive as helium can escape through thin metal and rubber over time (helum-molecules are just tiny enough)
