  1. So in terms of fix-ability, can anything be done other than replacing the whole mb?
  2. Tried both 7 and 10, currently 10
  3. So i have this old-ish laptop, a SAMSUNG NP300E5C that my folks use for lightweight work. A couple of days ago, they sent it to me cause it "stopped working". Apparently, the OS wouldn't boot and an error message was displayed, the one about the "Cannot read from hard-disk bla bla". When I got my hands on it, it didn't boot, but i couldn't see the message either. There is a click sound coming from the hdd so i assume it's dead. I replaced the hdd with an used intel ssd i just bought and tried to install a fresh OS but it couldn't be done: "windows cannot format this disk error blabla". I popped the ssd in my rig and managed to install the os flawlessly, then put the ssd back into the laptop ... still no boot. So I've tried pretty much all debugging/workarounds to install os/ boot from both the hdd/ssd on both my pc and the laptop: - hdd will not work on my pc or the laptop => dead - sdd works fine on my pc but not on the laptop The last thing i can think of is trying another sata connector cable for the ssd. If I am unlucky and it doesn't fix my problem, are there any other solutions I can try?
  4. Could you be more specific, please? What do you have in mind?
  5. Thanks for the replies! I want to have this set up ready as soon as possible and i am currently on a budget. I guess i could go with the cheap solution for now and consider an upgrade in the future. By the answers you provided, i suppose buying an "active" usb extender will do the trick, right?
  6. Hello, I am currently planning a way to move my gaming peripherals (xbox 360 pc controllers) next to my TV which will be at about 10 meters away from my PC. Note: i will refer to my usb2.0 as usb throughout this topic They way I see it, i will need a 10m long hdmi cable (pc to tv) and i want to dock a USB hub(external power) to the pc through a 10m long usb extender, so my 2 controllers will connect to the hub that is connected to the pc. I am worried about two things: - when i tried to connect one of the xbox360 controllers to the pc through http://www.satechi.net/index.php/satechi-f1-smart-monitor-stand-white, it didn't work and i guess it's because the port wasn't powered enough. will a powered hub fix this issue? - does this 10m distance will affect performance ? do I need a special kind of usb extender? PS: i am open to other solutions
  7. I would really like to win the keyboard, since I've always wanted a back-lit keyboard for those late-night gaming sessions. Also I've never owned a mechanical keyboard, which will be a nice addition to my gaming setup. Cheers!
  8. This sounds like a daring maneuver. I'll let you know about the outcome if i decide to try it. Thanks
  9. Hi! This may be a dumb question, but i cannot seem to find anything on the internet about it: are there any accessories that replace the soft, silicone earbuds with more solid ones? Basically, what i want is to turn this into something like this
  10. Hello, LinusTechTips! I would really like to win one of the SSDs, since i don't really have one in my current system. I am really trying to upgrade my system piece by piece (gaming rig) , using the tips provided by you guys and right now, the only thing missing from my system is one of them SSDs !
  11. Thank you all for your answers, it really helped me a lot
  12. Ok so i installed the MSI Afterburner and did some testing. The gpu reaches 99% , but the CPU never goes above 50%. Shouldn't it go higher? Edit: i ran a stress test with prime95 and checked the task manager: cpu was running at 99%
  13. Hi, I've always had the feeling that my computer isn't running like it is supposed to. I am talking about the gaming experience: i think that my rig should run at more fps than it is currently running. I thought about running some bench-marking tools, but i guess they show how the system runs and not how it SHOULD run. My question is: how can i figure out if some/any components are not working properly (at their max potential) ? PS: this is my first post, so please excuse me if i broke some rules or smth PS2: if info is needed, my system is pretty modest, 3 years old now with i5-3350p 3.1ghz, nvidia geforce gtx650 1gb, 6gb ram, 500w psu, 1tb hdd
