  1. Thanks for the reply! Absolute max budget is 1500€. If it's really really really worth it i might go up to 1700€. Right now I'm pretty much set on getting a G5 5590 for 1400€ ( https://www.dell.com/de-de/shop/game/dell-g5-15-gaming-laptop/spd/g-series-15-5590-laptop/cng5503 ). Later I'll get complete external peripherals, including a better display. I'll probably be getting whatever I get about 2 months later, so there's still time.
  2. I'd say at least about 5 hours and no more than about 3.5 kg.
  3. I took a quick look at them and they look very promising! I'll take a deeper look later. Thanks!
  4. I think you misunderstood me... I don't want a gpu dock for gaming. What I do want is pretty much a "dongle", where I'd keep my external monitor, keyboard etc connected, and then I'd just need to plug 1 USB C cable and it'd all be connected to the laptop. Gaming isn't the most important thing, it's more so on the 2. Slot. The thing with the XPS is the cheapest new model I can find is about 1500€, and while I can get that, I'd rather get something a bit cheaper so I can get a good Monitor etc.
  5. Currency: Euro € Location: Germany Favorite sites to buy: www.mindfactory.de , www.amazon.de , www.mediamarkt.de Budget: about 1000€, flexible Hello, Since at the moment we only have 1 desktop in our house and my brother wants to play fortnite every day, I need a second PC, and a laptop would be great. But the thing is I'm trying to improve my ergonomics so I would like a setup where I can use external peripherals when I'm at my desk. So Thunderbolt 3 is a requirement, and it'd be great if you guys could also recommend some docks. The uses for the laptop would be: Casual gaming, nothing mega competitive so a high refresh screen isn't at the top of my list. Favorite games include: Forza Horizon 4,DiRT 4, X-Plane 11, rarely GTA V. Photo editing, nothing serious or professional but it'd be very nice if I could edit pictures on the go. So a nice accurate display is required. Writing, as in documents and school stuff, so the keyboard is pretty important. And of course media consumption and all the other normal laptop uses. The size should be around 15", since 17" is a little too much to comfortably carry around. Battery life is also a priority. Aaaand it must have a SSD. Or at least a free spot. As far as what I've looked at already, I'd love a Dell XPS 15, but from what I understand I can get better performance for cheaper if I sacrifice on size. Idk tho, which is why I'm asking. I hope I didn't forget anything important, and thanks in advance.
  6. Well that's a direct answer... Thanks. Sounds good enough. Thanks. Fair enough. Thanks.
  7. Is there anything with thunderbolt 3 at that price point? I'm interested in the whole dock thing for the future. But sounds like a plan. If you could tell me a model as a starting point that'd be cool. Thanks.
  8. It's not really all my money... The pc we sort of saved together, and with saved i mean my dad just gave us both few bucks a day so he wouldn't have to pay at once. So u can count it as parent money. As for anything I'll buy, i sort of work for my dad and get about 450 a month now (minus spotify, audible etc ?) so I'd save some of that and ask my dad for some. But I still don't count it as *my* hard earned money or smth and I wanna be fair so your strategy isn't what I'm looking for... Thanks for the response nevertheless.
  9. At what settings would he get 60 fps in fortnite with that? Sounds like some bare minimum stuff. Don't want him bickering about lag.

Currency: Euro € Location: Germany Favorite sites to buy: www.mindfactory.de , www.amazon.de , www.mediamarkt.de Budget: under 1000€ , could maybe push to ~1500€ if I save for a while and if it's really worth it. Hello, As you can probably guess from the title we only have one PC (desktop) in our house, or rather, in my room, and because my little brother is a "gAmeR" he constantly bothers and distracts me while I'm studying or working. I have already limited his time to 2 hours a day but it's just not cutting it anymore. We "have" to get another PC. Or Laptop. And that's where my question comes in. I don't know if I should build another desktop for my brother, or if I should get a laptop for myself. And regardless what I get, what about the specs? A PC for him would be nice because then I keep my first self built PC (R5 1600, GTX1060 etc etc) with my 4TB of storage and it's just nicer to work on a desktop than a laptop. I've also got a really nice monitor arm (although the monitor is absolute trash) and a motorized desk, which ergonomically is great with a PC. Now in a perfect situation I give my brother the PC, get myself a very nice laptop and some 1 cable solution to connect the laptop to external peripherals (including a real nice monitor for photo editing) and charge. Funny thing is getting a laptop + a set of peripherals would cost more than an entire setup for my brother. So I'd be stuck with crappy laptop ergonomics, at least for a while. The other point against getting a laptop is that I want to have a PC that's always going to be home, and in my control, for storage reasons. I don't want to leave all of our old pictures in my brother's hands yet. BUTT... I really want (need?) a laptop. Every time we go on any sorta trip I'm left with my phone and nothing else, and there are situations where that just isn't enough, for reasons. I also recently got into photography, and it'd be really nice if I could go through 20 pics at the end of the day rather than 500 at the end of the holiday when editing etc. And I'd love it if I could watch TGT (or LTT) on my bed.I mean it's just plain useful to have a portable PC. No surprises there. As of right now I'm sorta leaning more towards building another desktop. I threw together this slightly overpowered (he plays Fortnite and Minecraft) setup to get an idea of how much we might have to spend : https://www.mindfactory.de/shopping_cart.php/basket_action/load_basket_extern/id/b1ecdd221f28a13ec1305add898b2dfcb80312315cdb41f8a6b . I haven't closely looked at parts reviews and builds as of late, so I don't really know how much is necessary for a nice Fortnite experience, and I'm not keen on researching that rn. It's possible that I give my brother my shitty monitor (since he doesn't care) and get something better for me. Now if I do get a laptop, I want something relatively light, 15"-17", great battery life, casual gaming (fav games: FH4, ETS, ATS, X-Plane 11, DiRT4 and rarely GTA V, FH4), good display, powerful enough for aforementioned games and Lightroom/Photoshop, and rareeeeely Premiere Pro. I wouldn't want to spend more than 1000€, but good laptops are expensive so I might push to 1500. Might. I hope I didn't forget to mention anything, and you can make sense of it all . Thanks in advance.
  11. I don't wanna bother you to much but if you have time could expand on your experience with different devices? No pressure.
  12. Yea, Mah isn't everything, but considering Nokia uses near stock android and Qualcomm SoCs it's a safe guess that 3800mah is gonna be plenty. Also, it's true that the few last android updates didn't do anything crazy, but for eg the notification area revamps on nougat and oreo are very useful, and the dashboard thingy coming in android P sounds very interesting.
  13. The Nokia 9 also seems interesting. I found out about it a bit earlier, should have a ~3800mah battery and flagship specs. But I'm still quite set on the Note 9. I saw a battery life comparison earlier and the P20 PRO basically destroyed all the other phones (s9+, one plus 6 etc), and considering the Note 9 will have the same battery size, it should be a beast. The only problem is that the software updates are always 1 year too late. Hoping that improves, especially with Project Treble.
  14. Hi. I have about 3 months to decide for a new phone, until my Vodafone contract gets renewed. I would prefer to get a phone available at Vodafone (https://www.vodafone.de/privat/handys-tablets-tarife/alle-smartphones.html) but I'm willing to pay cash if it's worth it. Price isn't much of a problem. Just so you know, until now I've been using a Galaxy S7 (Exynos). I've been mostly satisfied, but the battery life lately has been absolutely terrible (partly because i somewhat abused it) and the software is buggy, as is known for Samsung. As far as requirements go, it has to be Android, the battery must comfortably get me through a day of medium to heavy use, it has to feel responsive and I'd really like it if my phone doesn't randomly restart (I'm looking at you, Samsung). While it isn't a top priority, fast android updates are a welcome feature. To give you some reference, a day of use for me comprises of getting a zillion emails, deleting them, taking a picture of documents i need saved quickly, checking Google feed all the time (so lots of browsing), lots of WhatsApp and occasionally navigation. I prefer leaving gps etc on most of the time, and I'm often on data. I also love slow mo video and i like to mess with the pro mode from time to time (dying to get a dslr). Up to this point I've been more or less set on getting the Note 9, because it'll have a big-ass battery and I feel like the stylus could come in handy. Also I watch quite a lot of stuff on my phone so the HDR10+ display wouldn't go to waste. I was also considering the OnePlus 6 because of its great performance and software features but the battery life is apparently rather meh. Today I read about the Sony XZ2 Premium, and it looks like it's a great phone, but I don't see any reason to get it over the Note 9. Correct me if I'm wrong. The Pixel 2XL is a bit too old, but I'd get the 3 if it has a big battery, and if the screen isn't so meh again. Before I finish, I'm not interested in any Huawei phones. Also, I know tagging him is a bit of an asshole move, but if I could get an opinion from @LinusTech I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
