I didn't even know CPUs came in different socket sizes. Looks like I might as well just save up 2-3k and build from scratch! Looks like someone I know is going to end up with half-decent rig instead of their Best Buy model.

Why does a new motherboard mean a new CPU? Just pop it out, get some paste, and plop it into the new board... no?

Hello from Canada I'm looking to upgrade my current PC from a few years ago. I would love to run some games on max, but I'm mostly into online games so nothing crazy like some single player games can demand. Overwatch hype! (Maybe some light game dev too) What I will be transferring from my old PC: Intel i5-3570K nVidia GTX 660 Ti 2GB 8GB of RAM (2 sticks that I will change later) Gigabyte P75-D3 motherboard (I think it should be changed, but I don't know enough) HDD HAF 512 CoolerMaster case + peripherals (includes 2 monitors LG 22M35 [1920 x 1080] and LG L1719S [1024 x 768]) What I know I need: SSD (Looking at Sandisk Pro series) Powersupply CPU cooler I think those 3 parts, along with a RAM upgrade will allow me overclock a little. Budget....... well on the cheap side. Good reasons to spend a little more count for a lot imo, so I can save up if need be. Any other recommendations for upgrades welcome too!
