  1. Hey all, So I've had a 650D for years now and I just love the case, size airflow, etc and dont want to part with it however, I've just upgraded to a MSI z490-a pro with a 10700KF and the new Mobo has a header for front panel USBC but if you know the case you know it comes with 2x USB 3.0 Headphone and mic jack, 2x USB and a firewire (never guna use that). So im planning to try a little upgrade for the old gal. The mobo has 2x usb 3.0 internal headers and I managed to get a front panel for 650D ofd ebay so going to take the USB 3.0 out of that and the 2xUSB out of mine and swap them for four front panel USB 3.0 to two internal headers, no i have no idea what use it is but I like the upgrade. Then im going to remove firewire connector (did anyone use that) and put hopefully 2xUSBC in there however what im struggling to find or find out, is there a 2xusb-c to single internal header (usb-e I think its called) like the 2xusb 3.0 to one internal header. Also if no product like that exists at the moment, could I buy 2x single usb-c to usb-e internal adapter (Lian-Li do one) and splice the 2x usb-c to a single internal header (I know how to solder wires) or would that just not work? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi All, Just recently got some good advice from you all in regards to installing windows 10 so I decided today was the day to go ahead and do it (no shia lebouf references please). But i think I may have made an error and possibly lost a partition. I was running a 128gb SSD and 1tb HDD. My HDD was split into 4 partition "movies and tv" "programs" "games" and a blank one for making vids about KSP. I decided recently my 128gb wasn't enough anymore and bought a 256gb. I had a few problems at first but eventually figured it out. My new SSD was in with my old SSD (for file transfer) and I had disconnected my HDD. I got Win 10 on my new SSD and thought great reconnect all drives and start transfering what needs transfering. My original setup was C: (ssd) D: E: F: G: (HDD) for the four partitions. What i forgot stupidly was when both SSDs were connected and not the HDD the new SSD took over the letter D: Upon connecting all drives I found my C: (original SSD) D: (new SSD) and E: F: G: (HDD but only 3 partitions the "movies tv", "programs" and "vids" but not the games). Ive looked in disk management and there is no parition without a letter in there as I was hoping. its also showing the partitions rather strangely. the vids partition is mentioned twice for some reason as is the movies and tv. but when you add all the partitions up it comes to 698.51gb and im sure file system isnt taking up 300gb. Ive tried rescanning but nothing comes up. Its a dynamic disk and i tried some software to try and discover the missing space/partition but it couldnt for a dynamic disk for some reason. So have I just broked that partition and lost all the data of the old games I had in there? Is there anyway you can think of to get the space and or partition back that doesnt involve formating the whole drive and starting a fresh. I hope I havent knackered it. Thanks in advance
  3. Hi all, So im thinking ahead and wondering about windows 10 but the rules regarding the upgrade and then hardware upgrade are confusing me ALOT! So i was hoping some of you could clarify exactly what the rules are. Basically I got an OEM version of windows 7 as I was building my system. Since then i have changed a few things. got an SSD and some more ram (that was a while ago) but it was all fine. Anyway reading about the upgrade to windows 10 from what I understand once I install the upgrade i cant change my hardware because its an OEM upgrade which is a problem as I was planning to buy a new GPU soon but probably not before the 29th of July, But then other articles seem to indicate I can change the hardware (by hardware im refering to new GPU memory coolers psu). and im confused as to which is correct. So basic question once i upgrade my win 7 OEM to win 10 OEM can I still change hardware internally in my desktop or do I have to get the GPU before upgrading to win 10 OEM? thanks in advance
  4. Hi All, Just got a H110i GTX and have been watching some install videos and a few of them talk about not plugging the fans into the motherboard for some reason. Something about needing constant 12v power and instead plugging them into a molex adapter instead for direct from PSU power. I was just wondering if any of you found doing this more beneficial in some way. Also wouldn't this mean you dont have control over the fan speeds? If the answer is yes that it is better to avoid going via mobo is there a fan controller I can get that connects direct to PSU that would allow me to control speeds aswell. Preferably something internal that connects via a USB header or something because I dont like the look of those that take up a front panel drive bay. Thanks in advance for you help.
  5. Hi All, Im currently looking on Ebay to upgrade my GPU and some of the prices have got me thinking. I was looking originally for a 960 but after checking on other cards I found that for some reason the prices (auction only) seem very similar for the GTX 780 as the GTX 960 and I wondered why this was given the generational differences and what I presumed would be performance difference because of the generational difference but the price similarties have got me wondering. Are the two cards similar in performance even though their different? I know the price doesnt necessarily indicate how good the card is or the performance I just found it a bit strange is all. Plus if a GTX 780 would give better performance I was wondering if I should go for that. I will only be running one GPU no SLI consideration involved. Thanks in advance for your help
  6. so i recently had replace a 700w psu that the 12v had died on and replace it with a 500w cheapo psu. ive noticed that sometimes randomly with no paticular trigger the PC will hang for long periods and the little light under the power button on my corsair 650d case is solidly on instead of flashing. Ive found if i unplug my secondary HDD then restart it seems to be fine. But then sometimes with that drive plugged in it works normally too. This usually happens when first turning PC but has happened a couple of time after ive been using it for a while. I was thinking it might be due to the psu not being able to deliver enough wattage since it cheap but then questioned this when I saw the light on solidly. So what are your thoughts is the HDD or is the PSU a little too weak? Ive used a power calculator and I need 387 watts based on I5 3570k MSI GD65 gaming GTX 560TI 2x4GB Geil Black Dragon DDR3 1600 mhz kingston hyperx 120gb ssd 1tb HDD (unsure of make) Hyper evo 212 cpu cooler with 2 fans 1x 200mm case fan
  7. has to be the headset. the wood/woodeffect really speaks to me
  8. so heres how I see my options buy a new psu and see if its actually psu thats not delivering enough power (maybe its just delivering enough for the LEDs) buy new ram and see if that is the problem (im leaning in this option because leds arent on but then again loosing 2 sticks of ram simultaneously seems unlikely) if one of these two fixes doesnt work then only option left would be an issue with cpu. But the temps its running at since new cooler seem fine. im just trying to figure which option is most likely psu not delivering enough power ( it is an old crappy ezcool thing) or both sticks of ram being bust. someone needs to make a quick plug and play hardware issue detector. Would make life so much easier. lol
  9. yeah me too cos i really cant afford a new cpu right now. so ive tried booting with the sata cables/usb3/fan connector all disconnected. Now when you say try booting with things disconneced for my gpu can i just take out the 2 six pin or do you mean remove the card entirel? Also just checked the power cable for cpu and doesnt seem to be the issue either as (well at least the cable isnt)
  10. MSI GD65 gaming mobo Core I5 3570K 8gb DDR3 ram (2x4gb) GTX 560 ti (no old jokes pls) 120gb SSD primary 1tb HDD secondary 700w psu (yes I know its overkill but its what I had available) Also I have now individually taken each stick and put it into each slot from right to left and attempted to turn on each time and nothing.
  11. thanks for the reply have already tried this which reminds me was using 2x4gb sticks should of said that earlier tried reconfiguring by switching positions of sticks and switching to one stick and when that individual stick didnt work I tried the other stick on its own and still nothing and both sticks no longer have working LEDS
  12. just to clarify this is not a new build it was a working build for some time. Also the pc wont turn on at all no fan start up or anything meaning the display connector isnt an issue.
  13. Hi all, Thanks in advance for your help. Last night I was using my pc as normal. I had been using it throughout the day playing World of Warships or KSP and watching youtube in the background. Suddenly last night after being on for say about 12 hours (not always playing games in that time) it just shut off completely. Not unusual I thought Id recently had an issues with my cpu cooler dying and had to replace it and that had resulted in the pc turning itself off when it got too hot. So i went to turn it back on as thats what i did in the past and I got nothing. It wont even turn on (fans dont even start up). Heres what I know. The mobo and the gpu are all still getting power as LED on mobo powerswitch is on (although it wont turn on using this either) and the gpu led lights are on. The on off switch on the psu still lights up so I think power is working but not sure. The only significant change I can see is in the ram. I have some geil black dragon ddr3 1866mhz (down clocked to 1600 mhz for my mobo) that has red LEDs built in. Now those LEDs are not lighting up. Im pretty sure from memory that these LEDS were on even when the pc wasnt. Now these were the die hard burn in test edition so are unlikely to fail but yes I know unlikely and wont are two very different things and this pc is now 3 years old and theyve been in use most that time. So id like your input here. Do you think its a ram issue or maybe a psu issue or maybe something I havent considered entirely. thanks
