  1. Hey guys, never posted here before, but I'm having a hard time getting Razer to fix their crap implementation of USB-PD on the 2020 Razer Blade 15 Advanced. A year ago I made a post over on Razer Insider, here's the link to it. I'm not going to repost everything there, maybe take a read if you're interested. https://insider.razer.com/index.php?threads/2020-razer-blade-advanced-usb-c-pd-charging-issues.74883/ TL;DR: The way they have their USB-C controllers and the Embedded Controller set up causes the laptop to not pull more than 3A @ 20V unless an explicit 5A @ 20V PDO is detected. I contacted support a year ago, they told me that they had reproduced the issue in their "lab" (a laptop on a table? lol ok), and that they were working on a fix. A year later, nothing has come of it. This really removes the magical factor of using Thunderbolt docks, because Thunderbolt devices cannot deliver more than 96/97W of power (seems to be a part of the certification process), and thus the laptop only pulls 60W from the dock, which is not enough to support even basic operations on the laptop without having the battery discharge. The issue can almost definitely be fixed with an EC and/or BIOS update. I've dumped the firmware from the USB-C controllers (the 2020 Advanced uses TI TPS65987DDJ USB-C controllers) on the board and tried to reverse-engineer the firmware to manually add support for other normal USB-PD profiles (like 85W, 90W, etc), but it seems like Razer is using the EC to manage the USB-C controllers over I2C, instead of letting the USB-C controllers handle charging independently, so the area of the firmware that normally houses the "Transmit Sink Capabilities" region seems to be empty. I don't have access to any datasheets for the ITE EC, so that's a dead end. Does anyone else have this issue with their 2020 Blade 15 Advanced? Is this still an issue with the 2021+ models? I know this is an issue with the 2020 Blade Stealth too.
  2. I'm a long time AMD fan, still running my good old workhorse the HD 6970. The 2GB frame buffer is gettin kinda small, and driver support ended a while back. Its a non-GCN card, and its time for me to upgrade. I hope I can get a Polaris card!
  3. Up to 4 cards boot. I'm gonna try put one card directly In the 16x slot and try it again.
  4. Ok. So I'm trying to build a 5 R9 380x mining rig. I've updated the motherboards to the latest BIOS. I'm using a Pentium G4400, 4 GB of DDR4 RAM, 2 1000 watt EVGA (Gold Rated) PSUs, and a 250 GB crucial SSD. I've tried using both a H170 Pro Gaming from Asus, and a GA-Z170x-Gaming 3 from Gigabyte. If I have all the GPUs connected, most of the time the board will power on, but display nothing (the monitor stays in standby mode). I've even set the initial display to integrated graphics, but still if I have all 5 GPUs connected nothing will show up on the screen. I've verified that all the hardware works... I'm using these USB Risers: http://www.amazon.com/Fixable-Adapter-Flexible-Extension-Connector/dp/B00IMYODGS?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00. I'm currently installing windows with one GPU plugged in, but I know I eventually will need to plug the rest of them in. 1, 2, 3, and 4 cards boot fine. 5... Nope. I've tried both boards. It's not a Windows issue... The motherboard just isn't working. Can someone help me?
  5. I used 2 GTX 980s clocked at 1.5 GHz for one week and made $30... seems profitable
  6. Hey everyone! So I want to build a cryptocurrency mining rig with 4-6 GTX 980 Ti's. In order to do that I would have to use PCIe 1x to 16x riser cables. Logically thinking, this should decrease performance quite a bit because the bandwidth of even a Gen 3 1x slot is pretty small for a system bus (about 1 GB/s). I googled this, and found a few articles saying that mining performance would not be affected too much... except those articles were written back in the days of the Geforce 8800. Can anyone test mining performance of a 980 Ti in a PCIe Gen 3 1x slot? (also im pretty sure this article will come in handy for other people later on)
  7. I just bought EK's supremacy evo RED edition CPU waterblock and a silver Killcoil. I just found out that apparently silver will corrode the nickel plating on the CPU waterblock (which is a combo of nickel and plexi)... Is this true? Or has EK gotten better with their waterblocks?
  8. So you're saying I should put a D5 pump in the basement of the case, and put the res somewhere else in the case? I'm not sure what res to get then... . Is that your build? It looks nice
  9. I was planning to do exactly that. I'm using a slim 360 because I'm not completely sure if a pump/res combo will fit right in front of the front radiator but still remain invisible from the window. If I can use a 45mm radiator I definately will. Do you know if I could fit that EK D5 pump/res combo in the front of the case with a 45mm radiator? Thanks
  10. Thanks so much. You just gave me the reassurance I needed
  11. Ive looked at that pump before. What Im concerned about is where it will fit. It looks like it would fit in the front of a NZXT H440... But thanks. I'll add another radiator if the temps get too high.
  12. Lol I know this question is so overused. But... I want to watercool a i7-6700k and a GTX 970 (reference). I know for sure I will put a 360mm radiator (Im thinking the EK- Coolstream SE 360 Triple Slim) in the front of a NZXT H440. Do you think I need to add another 240mm radiator in the top of the case? I dont overclock too much, but I would like nice temps (below 65 degrees C) and fairly silent operation. Also- Anyone know of a good pump/res combo to use in the NZXT H440? I've looked around a bit without too much success...
  13. I would love the ZBOX to be my entertainment computer, because I do not have room for a normal computer, and was planning to buy a computer anyways. Thanks!
