  1. Yes by regular reapplications I mean every Summer or so. It gets hot here. 102 Celsius, resulting in failure Never heard of a GTX 580 being de-lidded, but if that's a serious reply, then I would consider it.
  2. Hey guys, So here's the deal. This is an MSI refurbished GTX 580 Twin Frozr II and since I've had it for a while, one of the fans has gone out and my temps have rocketed to an excess of 100c which is far too high obviously. It also don't help that I live in the desert so this is quite an issue as it's been exacerbated so easily. Anyways I dust my computer out regularly with compressed air and also reapply thermal paste regularly with arctic silver 5 (old school I know) and it doesn't quite help enough. I've even removed my case components to give the PC as much fresh air as possible with fans in my room. Helps, but I don't want to have to do that. No overclocking, etc. So my question for you all, would be, if I am to replace my heatsink shroud on my graphics card, what should I replace it with? I don't currently have a liquid cooler radiator, so I can't use that NZXT liquid cooler doo-dad thingy. I don't want it to take up too much space, because I have been thinking about grabbing another 580, but I certainly wouldn't with these kind of temperatures. OR, do I just replace the fan on the current heatsink? Let me know your overall thoughts. I can also provide pictures of my setup if need-be.
  3. The thing that concerns me with upgrading my CPU is that it won't actually make a serious difference according to a lot of different benchmarks. Makes me lean towards a new graphics card instead. Perhaps I should upgrade to Windows 8 and figure out the performance then, and see if I still feel the need for an upgrade.
  4. It's an MSI 870A-G54 and it does not support SLI or AM3+.
  5. So here's my situation, I'm sitting on top of a budget of about $450 and I'm trying to figure out if an upgrade from an AMD Phenom II X6 1055t OC'd to 3.5GHz would be worth it. I currently have that CPU, 8GB of DDR3 1600 RAM and an Nvidia GTX 580 (1.5GB). Would I gain more performance by just upgrading to a GTX 780? Or would I gain enough benefit with an upgrade to an i5-4670k or i7-4770k? I suppose there is also the possibility that my 1055t would bottleneck the GTX 780 though, so I'm not sure. I plan on playing games such as Battlefield 4, DayZ, Starcraft II, and Star Citizen. I also do recording and streaming, so that takes up some CPU performance as well. At the moment, my frames in Battlefield 4 are pretty bad. They dip down to 35 fps on certain maps, though I feel like this might because I haven't upgraded to Windows 8, and I know that Windows 8 is a huge performance boost for BF4. So... Thoughts?
  6. Anybody know if they'll make a 4GB version.
  7. Any clue when they might release more GTX 760 cards then? (Specifically 4GB models)
  8. I love the cooler on the Galaxy GC edition, but does it overclock the best? Hopefully they release a 4GB version.
  9. What exactly is the difference between Power Edition and Gaming Edition?
  10. Hey there! I plan on upgrading to a pair of GTX 760 for SLI. There are several things I'm trying to consider, and I'm having a difficult time deciding which model of card I want to buy. First of all, I will be using SLI eventually, but not immediately. My current motherboard does not support SLI, and my current CPU will bottleneck it anyways. Second, I want at least 4GB of VRAM, I've already decided this and I'm not going to buy a 2GB.(Currently there's only one available 4GB model that I know of) Third, I definitely want to overclock, unless overclocking with SLI is bad or something, I'm definitely wanting to overclock. I'm not sure though if the overclocking cards such as the Gigabyte or MSI are going to result in much better clocks though. If they do overclock better, then which card overclocks the best? From what I can tell the HD 7950 overclocks extremely well, and I want to overclock a GTX 760 similarly. Do custom PCB's overclock better? I heard that the MSI card has triple overvoltage, is this something to consider? I've also heard that Blower style fans(reference) are better than the custom axial coolers, simple because of air circulation, however, I find noise to be more important than temperature as I feel the airflow in my case is adequate enough. And does anyone know what 4GB cards are to be released? All I know of are the EVGA ones. (released and to be released) If possible, I would also love a backplate for my cards, but I currently only see the EVGA backplates. Any input and help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
