  1. Sounds like a good choice then, heh! Thankyou all for the replies. I can probably go for the 850W version too, so I should be covered!
  2. Hi all, What would be the best brand to go for with the Nvidia GTX 980 (ASUS, MSI, etc.)? Interested to know what experiences you've all had and what would be the best to go for. Thanks!
  3. Hi, I'm currently looking at this PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/630112-evga-supernova-750w-fully-modular-80-gold-power-supply-220-g2-0750-xr Would this be a good PSU for a dual SLI setup (GTX 980) and a potential Skylake upgrade in the future? (changing my GPU after the poor experience with the R9 390. coil whine + DirectX crashes = no thanks) Looking for something that is future proof / high quality. Not going to make the mistake of ordering a CX series again! Here are my specs at the moment: Intel Core i5 2500K - Sandy Bridge HyperX Beast 8GB RAM XFX 6950 2GB 250GB Crucial SSD 500GB WD Blue 1TB WD Red Creative Sound Audigy Fx - Sound Card Corsair AF140 Fans (x2) Fractal Silent 140 Fans (x2) Noctua Performance Fans (x2) - can't remember the model Cheers!
  4. I've got the card working in the first slot perfectly fine. Finally I can play games! Thankyou all for the help The replacement card does make a bit of a buzzing noise when under load.. but I guess it isn't harming anything. I don't think they'll let me replace it again now. ;P
  5. Does anybody know what the problem with the first slot could be? Old card (6950) works in the first slot, new card (390) doesn't. Moved the 390 to the second slot, working perfectly fine. Faulty motherboard or GPU (note that the GPU has been recently replaced) ? Yeah, it's been a huge pain. The one time I upgrade my card I have a whole series of problems, hah ;P I kinda wish I researched more into the PSU before buying it, rather misled by the reviews on Amazon there. I do have enough time to send it back, though!
  6. Everything seems to be running fine, but the GPU is in the second slot so I'm worried I'm not utilising the card completely. To be fair though, it was running games pretty damn well. I got a 3dmark score of around 9400 last night using the Fire Strike test. (ranging from 50-70fps in the tests, 20fps or so in the physics) Could the top PCI-E slot be at fault here? I'm really not sure as the old card worked in it fine (maybe not as resource demanding as the new card?). I've already replaced the new card, so there's a low chance of that being faulty.
  7. Progress!!! I moved the GPU to the other slot, took out my sound card, cut down to one RAM stick and it's working absolutely fine (1.0 in graphics on the System Rating test though.. weird ;P) Could this be a faulty motherboard? I understand that having it in the second slot isn't the best idea. The old card worked in the first slot, how come this card can't?
  8. I just ran DDU and installed the Beta drivers w/o the Cataclyst Manager, no luck. Tried running a System Rating check and it crashed a few seconds in. Weird graphical bugs I'm noticing too.. especially before I installed the drivers (cursor/window trails, random glitches in the UI, etc.). Now I have it installed, Aero is running but it doesn't feel smooth at all. I'm going to assume re-installing Catalyst isn't going to do much. I'm going to try updating the BIOS and see how that plays out. Changing the PSU as last resort. Still find it weird that I'm experiencing all these problems with the new card, but the old card runs perfectly. and lol - drivers just crashed whilst typing this. fun!
  9. What is this madness? :O

  10. I do have a 600W non-modular hanging around.. can't remember for the life of me what the model/brand was. Will try that out if all else fails.
  11. Damn.. I recently upgraded to the 850W PSU which cost quite a bit of money. Reviews seemed pretty good (via Amazon). I don't know if I can return it now. I hope it isn't the cause of the driver crashing. I'll try this again today, when I get home! Even under a fresh install of Windows 7, I still had driver crashes. I was convinced it was working for a second until I started the system rating check - insta-crash there! Games still crashing also. Really odd
  12. No, I don't think so. Very weird.. I hope nothing else in the computer is playing up. (note that my old GPU works perfectly fine!)
  13. I have tried decreasing the clock - didn't change anything, but haven't bumped up the voltage yet! Will try that when I get home. EDIT: just saw your edit, will try that too! sounds like a good idea. can't remember if i used the 15.8 driver or not w/ windows 7.
  14. ^ yep! I'm getting this exact error. I think (can't check - not at home right now!) I'm currently using these drivers: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Radeon-300-Series.aspx (15.15.1004) I believe this is an older version, but the latest version (15.20) still had the same problems. I'm still running Windows 7 at the moment.
  15. I haven't got it installed at the moment... good/bad? Yeah.. looking at the AMD support forums, a ton of other people have the same problem. Crazy!
