  1. I am thinking about custom building an external drive, the main idea is for it to house multiple ssds so that it can be run in raid and have physical redundancy. Since I'm in the planning phase the main concern I have is if a single usb port would be able to provide enough power to run up to 4 drives at the same time. If that's not possible the other option would be to design it in a less portable format with a small power supply, which would be easier but wouldn't be as flexible and convenient. I haven't been able to find what the power draw I'm wondering if anyone has done anything similar or if there is anything similar already on the market.
  2. I changed out the motherboard, cpu, the hard drives, and ssd. I did a clean install of windows and just redownloaded what I needed since a lot of programs on my old drive were broken. The new drives are running in Raid 0, the ssd is seperate. I do have fast boot enabled and set the delay time to 0 seconds. 3. Makes sense, clearly I still haven't learned to read the full specs on things yet
  4. I recently rebuilt my PC and installed windows onto a new M.2 drive, I'm noticing my boot speed is around 30 seconds when I remember having an SSD that would get a boot time of 7 seconds, are M.2 drives just slower than a normal SSD? All startup programs are currently disabled. This is the drive windows is installed on: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pxKcCJ/crucial-p1-1tb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-ct1000p1ssd8 My full build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/X7dGHB
  5. Hey, I have started to build a desk so that I have a cleaner area for my PC and peripherals. I have the basics down but just need a little help with some of the more complicated parts of the build. I was working on the plans for it before the Rona hit and now that I'm out of a job and we're stuck at home I pulled the trigger as a project to keep me busy. First question I have is what paint to use, I'm looking for a matte black paint and want to have a finish on it that gives the desk a smoother texture and protects it from long term damage. The whole thing is going to be properly sanded down (by hand) but wood tends to keep some of its texture anyway. I'm also looking to mount a power strip into the back of the desk, I can probably figure this out, just wondering if anyone has any examples of similar things they have done. I am working on a custom clear acrylic name plate, and want to have it illuminated with an RGB strip, preferably controlled by ICUE. I'm just not sure if corsair makes any ICUE lighting strips that are meant to be on the outside of the case. If possible I'm also looking at creating a small indent on the two sides of the desk to put another RGB strip and cover it with a clear acrylic plastic to help diffuse the lighting. Ill post progress pictures as I work on this but it's going to take some time since I have very limited tools to work with and also like to try and get things to be as perfect as I can. I appreciate any tips you guys have My Current Desk and Setup: Desk I'm Building:
  6. I am having an issue where in some games for example rainbow six, if I press a abnormal key (for example macros, multimedia buttons including pause play or volume adjustment, the home button on a controller) the game will completely freeze and the only way to get out of it is to hit the reset button on my PC. I didn't notice this issue until I got a new corsair keyboard (it's the Corsair K55). My computer is on the lower to mid range end of the spectrum, it runs games fine but I plan on upgrading things in the near future. It doesn't seem like a performance issue because it happens whenever the game is full-screened it doesn't matter if it's in the main menu or the middle of a game. Alt-tab, the windows key, and cntrl - alt - delete all don't work.
  7. Thank you! That helps a ton!
  8. I am currently working on building a desk to use for gaming and my other projects. I have a general shape and layout drawn out and designed with minor adjustments that still need to be made. I am still new to building things and so I am looking to get some help. For the desk top I am looking to have a black top that has a shine to it like plastic. What material should be used for this? The other option would be to use wood and polish it up with wax or I am also trying to figure out if the whole desk should be made out of this or if the base should be made out of wood which I have more experience working with. If anyone has experience with this kind of thing I would love to get some recommendations and tips for someone who is still learning.
  9. From experience I can say the 400c is nice but there are higher end cases out there if you want more than you need.
  10. It is launching into bios automatically, I just need to leave bios but it will go right back into bios. No settings have been lost. I can try to reinstall the old graphics card.
  11. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/MagmaCraft/saved/#view=fJfWGX Updated List with power supply
  12. Evga 500W 80+ certified not modular, is this a possible source for not launching past bios?
  13. So, are their fps issues? Just because its not at 100% usage doesn't mean something is wrong. I don't think those temps are high enough to thermal throttle but I don't know what those temps should be but they do seem pretty high at the same time.
  14. I replaced my graphics card from a 610 to 960 turbo. Now when I power on my pc it will go into bios, when I hit exit with or without saving it will go right back into bios. All power cords are connected all usb devices have been taken out except mouse, no error message although the blinking cursor on boot now goes down and back up instead of staying on the same line. Yes, I have turned it off and on again. FULL parts list http://pcpartpicker.com/user/MagmaCraft/saved/#view=fJfWGX I did take out the mobo to do some cable management. Checked all power and sata connections. 2 people have tried to help me but have not been successful.
  15. Yesterday it didn't crash at all I unplugged the power supply and plugged it in so that may have fixed it, there is a chance while they were painting the basement and moving things around they pulled it out just a tiny bit and it became slightly faulty, although I don't know how I would be able to run it for 30 minute to hour intervals if it was like that. Ill let you know how it goes today.
  16. I did notice a odd noise, it was sorta like a fax tone or a whistle with two or three different high pitched tones but it didn't crash that time and haven't noticed it since. I again am planning on getting a better gpu (gtx 750) very soon that was because I completely forgot about the gpu and I was at my budget ceiling.
  17. I have applied thermal paste and the internal temp of the computer itself is 30 degrees Celsius when its under load. I can try to monitor it while its active to let you know what the cpu is at. I know that my GPU SUCKS, it was more of a temporary one until I upgrade it to a gtx 750 soon.
  18. Is it possible its the motherboard?
  19. I don't think all power is lost, I think it might be the motherboard. The fans are hooked up to a fan controller and the fans seem to stay on and my computer boots up again. I will also attempt to scan my pc for viruses without it crashing. The only thing I am unsure of that I downloaded recently is MEGA, but some of the issues started before that download.
  20. Hey, you did warn me about my psu... What do you mean by randomly resets? Please check that link out :l http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/481553-computer-randomly-crashesrestarts/
  21. Parts list http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zgNJ99 We have been painting the basement so at some point the computer was covered with a blanket, I took it off before I ran it. Also they took the covers off the outlets, I still doubt this would make a difference but I think its worth knowing. When it does this some things still have power like the fans and the windows recovery does not come up.
  22. Hey guys, I have finished building my first pc recently any I have just started having some issues that are concerning. My computer will randomly crash and boot up again. It seems my headphones loose power first with short bursts of power going through it then my monitor looses power and soon after the whole pc. after a little bit my pc starts up again like normal. The process is very similar to when my computer restarts. My headphones are plugged into my usb ports, I have also had issues with my wireless mouse loosing connection randomly sometimes. I don't use the usb slots in the front of my case so its all hooked up to the pre-installed mobo ports. I have also earlier received a warning on this forum about the psu being horrible quality. I have the EVGA 500W Power supply. If you could help me figure out what component it is that would be amazing, I have a two year warranty on almost all of my computer parts.
  23. I did try to keep this build a little more budget friendly... I payed around 800 dollars total, It still runs A TON better than the mac I have. I think something in it just, died. It has trouble opening one of its own menus . I have also finally stopped gaming on a mac/
