I have a dream, and that dream is to build a killer video wall. On ONE box, with 4 video cards each with 4 or more outputs on each card.
My question is what are the limitations to either video cards or mobos that would keep this from being a reality. So far I am looking at the Asus ROG Rampage 5 extreme and something from the R9 290x lineup (2gb and up). Pairing it with at least 32gb of ram and a i7-5XXX-E to get a 40 lane proc.
Please do not just fire back with SLI or crossfire responses, this is not a multi GPU setup but a massive output setup.
I also know that Eyefinity can do 6 screens in a group, but I am unsure how the software will react to such a setup and would rather do this as just independent screens rather than an Eyefinity Group if possible.
My question is if anyone has done something similar what did you experience, what can a mobo handle as far as number of active PCIe slots, will Catalyst allow multiple cards to exist in the same machine (matching gpu and manufacturer), what does this mean for PSU is there one with enough power rails or do I need 2.
On topic (not crossfire) suggestions are welcome, I am not locked into any hardware but it must go like stink as I am looking at driving 16 2k or higher displays.
